Discussion about NBA Live 2003.
Sat Nov 23, 2002 4:47 pm
I have just installed NBA Live 2003 on my PC. When i load it up i get the picture of Jason Kidd on my screen, then it goes black but the hourglass remains and nothing else happens. Then i turned off the computer and when it restarted it checked for errors and found the following:
The size of the \Program Files\EA SPORTS\NBA Live 2003\C_TMP00_.DAT entry is not valid
How do i fix this?

try opening DXDIAG.EXE in your windows and then select the SOUND tab, then reduce your sound accelerator bar.

thx for everyone's insight thus far

(no success yet unfortunatly).
System Specs:
Windows 200 o/s
256meg RAM
450 megahertz AMID K6-2 Processor
18.6Gig Usable HD Capacity
14.2Gig HD Free Space
SiS 530 [Display Adaptor]
Plug and Play Monitor
ESS Solo-1 DOS Emulation
ESS Solo-1 PCI AudioDrive
LITEON CD-ROM LTN403
directX 8.1
IE6
btw, i had absolutely no problems installing the game. i actually thought if you can install the game without any warnings or problems it meant u had the right system specs, i could b wrong. so its perfectly installed but when i double click on the nba live 2003 icon jason kidd comes up and then it goes black but then it never goes to the game, just stays black and after 10 seconds the windows hourglass reappears and stays there.
I have installed the game 4 times. Once on full, then on medium, then on minimum, and then i tried just copying the whole cd onto the harddrive without using the installation file. but all 4 installations have exactly the same result - no problem throughout installation, yet no game.

NBA Live 2003 requires a 16MB supported Direct3D capable video card
whereas NBA Live 2001 required a 4MB supported Direct 3D capable video card
NBA Live 2001 works perfectly on my computer so i obviously have at least a 4MB supported Direct 3D capable video card
but maybe i don't have a 16MB supported Direct 3D capable video card since NBA Live 2003 does not work on my computer
i do not know where to find out which video card i have, so if anyone knows what section of the control panel i should be looking in or elsewhere i would be greatful, though it makes sense that i simply have to upgrade my video card considering that everything works except for the actual graphics of the game.

Just an idea
If it brings it up as a file size mismatch, try deleting the file altogethor.

yeh i considered that, but then i reinstalled the game with minimum files and that file wasn't even put onto the C: drive so i guess that file isn't the problem. my theory is that the first time i loaded up the game and was left with a black screen i switched off the computer because i had a problem ending task via task manager, so maybe that file was said to be linked with not properly shutting down the computer (maybe the last file that was processed by the computer before it was switched off). then the next time it didn't work i ended task properly and shut down properly so no file correction took place. so i doubt that file is the problem unfortunately. considering that everything works before the graphics are meant to appear, it makes sense to be a video driver/card problem.

hey bud...there is no doubt...you have a video card problem...you can find out what your card is by;
1. right click desktop
2. properties
3. settings tab
4. advanced button
5. your card will be on a tab in there...click on it & check it out
get yourself a GeForce card....I have a GeForce 2MX 400 card, 64M...& the game works sweet maxed out on most details. You will pick up a GeForce Ti 4 or something like that for around $100-$200..
you may also want to spruce up your cpu a bit....
hope this helps,
greenmig

i have the same problem with you when i first intalled the game. but now i can play the game. i fix that problem in the Directx Sound. first you must run the DXDIAG.EXE and then click in the sound tab, then try lowering the sound acceleration.
when i try lowering the sound acceleration, the game is already running!!!
Or try to install the game without background programs. You must press the CTRL+ALT then DEL and then END TASK all programs except EXPLORER.
Hope this will solve your problem... bye.

thx, i did try reducing the sound acceleration, it didn't solve my problem, but don't worry cos i just took my computer into the shop and got a 32meg video card put in. my game is perfect now. and i thank all those who were generous enough to take the time to offer their opinion on the matter. thx
