Ah, alright. I'd go with Bobcats as my first choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if you went to a completely different team *cough*lakers*cough*

NBA Rookie Game Rosters Announced
Andrew Bogut to battle Dwight Howard in the paint!

10 Feb, Houston TX AP- The NBA announced the rosters for the annual Rookie versus Sophomore game yesterday. The game will pit Andrew Bogut against Dwight Howard in a highly anticipated match-up and will also allow those first year players, who have struggled to gain playing time, a chance to be able to shine.

The rosters are as follows:

Rookie Team | Sophomore Team

Johan Petro | Nenad Krstic
Andrew Bogut | Dwight Howard
Joey Graham | Josh Smith
Martell Webster | JR Smith
Derron Williams | Chris Duhon

Chris Paul | Smush Parker
Charlie Villanueva | Emeka Okafor
Wayne Simien | Josh Childress
Marvin Williams | Andre Iguodala

The most surprising selection out of all of the players would be Lakers PG Smush Parker. The fact that he was included raised many issues in the league office as some people argued about his eligibility to be considered a second year player. In his career, Parker has played in both the 02-03 season and the 04-05 season. This means that he is actually in his third NBA season. David Stern refused to take Parker off of the team due to the fact that they had already been announced and the player had already accepted his invitation to participate in the event.

The decision was very controversial as third year player Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors argued, "Stop trying to make more money by putting in players from popular teams. What I'm trying to say is that guys who deserve to play aren't invited because all the NBA care about is money! Man, why don't they get me to play then?"

This season’s Rookie game should have its’ different storylines. It will be intriguing to see who plays better out of Rookie point guards Derron Williams and Chris Paul. Joey Graham and Martell Webster weren’t expected to make an impact in the NBA so early while the two Smiths will get to share the win positions again this year. Dwight Howard will battle this year’s number one draft pick Andrew Bogut while last year’s number one pick will come off the bench against Marvin Williams; this season’s number two pick and coming off the bench.

The team with the most representatives this year are the Atlanta Hawks with three players.

The game will be played on All-Star Friday, tipping of at 7 pm EST.

Kevin Garnett among Slam Dunk Competitors
Rising Stars Slam Dunk Competition to Feature Surprise Entrant Emeka Okafor

Feb 12, Houston TX AP – Emeka Okafor was a surprise selection for the Sprite Rising Stars’ Slam Dunk Competition as he will lace up his shoes for the Saturday Night spectacle. The Charlotte Bobcats’ second year player will have a chance to entertain the crowd with whatever he has to offer. Most people think he hasn’t got much to show.

Steve Francis, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are the other three competitors.

Orlando’s Steve Francis has been known for his free-wheeling style of play and is one of the better small guys that can get up there with the rest. The second pick in the NBA Draft of 1999 and former co-Rookie of the Year is the dark horse to win the competition ahead of favourite Kevin Garnett.

Garnett of Minnesota adds his second appearance of All-Star weekend next to his starting spot in the NBA All-Star game. The versatile 7 foot player has always been able to make highlight dunks with his freak athleticism. As team mate Troy Hudson said last week, “If KG goes to dunk in that contest, I don’t know how high he’s gong to go just to impress everyone. He can jump man.”

Boston’s Paul Pierce who is also suffering a horrible season in terms of team success has been awarded to try to slam his way into the history books. The swingman from the Celtics has always been believed to be thought as underrated and he now has a chance to prove his worth.

The Slam Dunk Contest will begin on Saturday at 7 pm EST.

Tracy MacGrady to Attempt to Bring Crown to Houston
Will Seattle pair Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis Crash Mac’s Party?

13 Feb, Houston TX AP – Five of the eight players in the Foot Locker Three Point Shootout will be making their first ever appearances in the event. What makes this unique is that all of them aren’t known or have been considered as three point shooters in the past.

All-Stars Kobe Bryant and Tracy Macgrady were surprise selections as the duo are usually revelled as high-flying swingmen. Bulls PG Kirk Hinrich was also a surprising choice but was justified by his status at the top of the three point field goals made statistic; where he appears second.

The other surprise selections are Charlotte Bobcats’ SG Kareem Rush who is a very streaky shooter and Warriors’ PG Derek Fisher who is admittedly solid but not a player you would expect to see on All-Star Saturday.

Rush makes his All-Star debut without many credentials on his resume except for the Western Conference Finals in which he scored a flurry of treys to help the Lakers win Game 7. For him though, that’s about the only things he’s known for in relation to long distance shooting. Phil Jackson did call him the Lakers’ best shooter at the time but one and a half seasons on, Rush still hasn’t really put made that a reputation of his concrete.

Rush acknowledges this fact but also adds, ‘I’m not known as a three point shooter yet. The key word being yet.’

Derek Fisher who raised to prominence in the Lakers’ early championship runs with his long distance shooting was always a solid shooter. After leg injuries in his college career, the 6’2” G had to learn to play without his athleticism. This meant that his jump shot improved and he was able to help lead an unstable Lakers’ team through his leadership and steady play. Now the veteran gets to prove that he can be a star in his own right.

The five players already mentioned will be joined by perennial participant Ray Allen who looks to try and win his second shooting title since the 2001 All-Star Weekend held in Washington DC. The Sonics’ sharpshooter is the favourite to win the event with his smooth shooting mechanics and experience in the event.

His team mate Rashard Lewis will try and make it a bit harder for him to win though as he makes his second appearance since the 2004 event held in Los Angeles. The Sonics' Forward is the NBA's number one three point shooter as he ranks first in both attempts and makes. Clippers’ Cuttino Mobley rounds out this year’s participants also making his second appearance since 2004 in Los Angeles.

The Foot Locker Three Point Shootout will be held on Saturday at 8pm EST.

The Fans Speak Out, All-Star Line-ups Revealed
Kobe Bryant, Paul Pierce Lead All Players in Votes

13 Feb, Houston TX AP – Houston Rockets tag team Yao Ming and Tracy Macgrady will start for the West All-Stars in the NBA’s All-Star Game to be held in their team’s hometown. The two will be joined by Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant and Mike Bibby in the main showcase of talent for the entire All-Star weekend.

Tyson Chandler and Kirk Hinrich will start for the East All-Stars signalling the first time since the MJ-led Bulls Era where two Chicago players have started in an All-Star Game. As fellow East starter Paul Pierce said, “This season is something special. We’ve got reps from the Bulls, Pistons and my team starting in the game. All those team are true Eastern powerhouses of the past, present and the future.” Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace who are both on the powerful Detroit Pistons roster will round out the East starters.

Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce led all NBA players in votes. Pierce got most votes amongst forwards, Bryant amongst guards and Yao Ming amongst centres.

The NBA All-Star Reserves will be announced by a panel of coaches later this week.

The NBA All-Star will tip off on Sunday at 7pm EST.
