I used to walk through my house and jump & touch the top of the frame of each door as I walked through it. When I got older I did the same but with the roof.

I'm 5'7", white (less hops) and can just touch the ring now, I haven't really progressed in overall height of elevation since I was shorter and 14 though.

Either do that or look up 'plyometric' training. Be careful if you do though, don't overdo it.

^^ some people are just better off of one foot (running) and some are better off of two feet. it's really your preference. I can jump higher off of two.

I envy you, jumping off of two feet makes you posterize people easier since you get 'up' more rather than going 'forward' a little like when you go off of one foot.

I'm 5'10" and this year I realized I can touch the rim, but I don't do any sort of plyometrics training or any leg exercises for that matter (not a lot of running either, even though I really need to). I guess if your trying to do a running jump you just gotta get the footwork down and try it. I learned by watching some of my black friends dunk, if your jumping off two feet make sure you plant both of them and bend your knees, and when you jump up your momentum should still be trying to push you forward as your going up.

It's kinda strange with me. I'm 5'8, weigh about 160 lbs and I only manage to dunk it in summer. Of course, I get more exercise than in winter, but still. I think it might be my age. When I was younger, I threw it down much easier. But I'll be 27 this year, and I put on a little fat during the winter months way faster than I used to.

Just try not to rape your knees. It happens really fast if you're jumping while running, especially if you take off one-footed.
