Gold team squeaks out win against Blue team
March 12, 2006
New York City, New York - The first annual NLSC Academy All Star Game took place last night in the Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks. The North American Academy hosted the first game and therefore all of their varsity players were invited to the game. Along with just the Northerners, every academy was respersented by a player, all expect for South America, who's player Andres “Drex” Muñoz tore his ACL calling a timeout during a scrimmage. This injury was the same type of injury suffered by former Lakers GM Honor Glow.
The game started with Gold team taking advantage and drawing 2 fouls on Blue team center Peter Robertson. With Robertson out, the Gold team looked to run away until shooting guard Desmond Jackson started to take over. Jackson hit 3 downtown shots in a row and pushed the Blue team. On paper the Gold team looked by far stronger, but this wasn't the case during the game. By the end of the first quarter Jackson had scored 12 points and helped his team to a 33-27 lead.

Left: Sam Anurak goes in for a layup in the first quarter. Right: Ben Branch is fouled by Sam Keon but he still maeks the and one.
The second quarter Ben Branch began to take over the game, he scored 10 points and grabbed 8 boards for the Gold team. Meanwhile Desmond Jackson continued his domination with 11 points this quarter for 23 going into the half. Peter Robertson was inserted back into the game and managed to stay out of foul trouble. Jing Xu took over the scoring for the Gold team and led them with 18. Due to this and his teammates coming alive, espically Zac Mousoulis, the Gold team managed to squeak out a 5 point lead, 71-66.

Left: Sam Anurak throws an alley-hoop to Ben Branch for a huge dunk. Right: Jing Xu goes under the hoop for a dunk. He really took over in the 2nd quarter.
The players who dominated all game showed why they will go high in the draft as they continued to star. Desmond Jackson uped his score to 38 points while Robertson was up to 11 rebounds. The Gold team's Branch was leading his team with 24 while also grabbing 13 rebounds. Nicky Fasz, the French guard finally showed up as he dished out 4 assists for a total of 6 to lead the game so far. At the 3rd quarter break, the Gold team still held on to the lead, 106-102.

Left: Peter Robertson backs down Ben Branch, but it didn't do anything. Right: Mikki Dela Rea catches an alley-hoop from Nicky Fasz and dunks.
The most exciting part of the game came at the end of the game. Ben Branch grabbed a rebound and dished to Xu with his team down 140-139. The Gold team worked the ball around the perimeter until the ball went back to Xu for the 3. The final statistic sheet is eye popping as Jackson ended the game with 54 points while Robertson grabbed 20 rebounds. Nithin Kadayil had 9 assists for the Blue team. For the Gold team Branch earned 32 points and 16 rebounds while Fasz dished out 1 more assist for 7. The inbound pass was mishandled by Robertson and Dela Rea picked it up and threw it into the air, sealing the win. Center Ben Branch was named the player of the game though the Blue team had 2 outstanding candidates as well.

Left: Dela Rea taunts the Blue team as he leaves for the locker room. Right: Ben Branch is fouled by Robertson, and he made the shot.
