Grizzlies announce new staff members
Grizzlies News | Oct. 3, 2006
The Memphis Grizzlies announced today that they have now finished their nationwide search for staff members; and held a press conference where they introduced the new additions, which consist of two assistant coaches, an athletic trainer and a scout; and they are as followed:At first, there was some confusion amongst the reporters as to why they had chosen to sign two assistant coaches, but Andreas explained: "By signing Andrew Begley to join our organisation we'll be getting an awesome defensive coach with great leadership skills and basketball knowledge. And with Jing Xu on board, we'll also be getting a very good offensive coach that I really think the players will like. And it's also planned so that they will both take care of the athletic part of the training together, thus making them a great complement to each other."
"We're also very excited about our new athletic trainer and scout," Dahl continued. "Nicky Fasz is a very capable trainer that works a lot with the arms, legs and strength in general, which we will need if we plan to be competitive throughout the season, and not to mention in the playoffs... Benjamin Branch is a very talented scout with a great eye for defensive talent, which makes him gold worth for us when it comes to scouting potential draft picks. It'll also be great to have him on board when it comes to studying the upcoming opponents and finding their weaknesses."
"I'm really looking forward to working with these guys. They all seem like they really know what they're doing and seem like really nice people..." Mike Fratello said, and then added, "It was a fairly hard process picking which people we wanted to go with, but thanks to the board for giving us a rather big budget to move with, it wasn't half as hard as it could have been. We were able to get the guys we felt was best for us, which is great. I can't wait for the season to start..."
* The remaining 9,000$ from the staff budget will be donated to the 'Grizzlies Reading and Learning Centers'.

Thu Feb 16, 2006 4:31 am
Sure, but what position did you have in mind? I don't really think there's any other spot in the game that can be used...
edit: That trade that I had in mind earlier fell through

I just didn't feel comfortable with him, so I decided to scrap it.

Memphis deal Tsakalidis to New Orleans/Oklahoma City
Grizzlies News | Oct. 4, 2006
The Memphis Grizzlies announced today that they have acquired Arvydas Macijauskas from the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets in exchange for centre Jake Tsakalidis.
“This trade will hopefully give us another dangerous scoring option off the bench," said Grizzlies manager Andreas Dahl. “We could certainly use a player like Arvydas to come in off the bench and put up valuable points and assists for us.”
Macijauskas is a rookie coming directly from Europe and is known for his good shooting and court vision. In his last season with Tau Vitoria he played 43 games and averaged 16 points, 2 rebounds, 0.76 steals and 1.8 assists per game.
Reactions about the trade:
- A. Macijauskas: "This feels like a great move for me. Playing with the Hornets wasn't really working out for me, but I feel good about playing with the Grizzlies. I'll do my best to prove myself in practices, and hopefully I'll get some playtime so that I can show you [the fans] what I'm capable off... It feels great to be here."
- J. Tsakalidis: "Screw you guys, I'm going home..."
- P. Gasol: "I definitely like this trade. I remember playing against him [Arvydas] in the European Championships, as well as seeing him play in the Olympics; and I was quite impressed. That kid can shoot."
- J. Xu (Asst. Coach): "We'll be glad to have Arvydas come to the Grizzlies because he is still young. We got guys like Eddie [Jones] and Mike[Miller] who can mentor him and make him into an even better player. I got high hopes for this guy..."
- Fan on the street: "Well, we traded a bad player whose name no one can pronounce, for another bad player whose name no one can pronounce... Seems like a fair deal to me. GO GRIZZLIESSSS!!!"

edit: That trade that I had in mind earlier fell through I just didn't feel comfortable with him, so I decided to scrap it.
good to hear that you have some realism for your dynasty in mind

doesn't solve your depth problem with your bigs, which gets even weaker with this trade
- J. Tsakalidis: "Screw you guys, I'm going home..."
Jake sounds a lot like Eric Cartman
- Fan on the street: "Well, we traded a bad player whose name no one can pronounce, for another bad player whose name no one can pronounce... Seems like a fair deal to me. GO GRIZZLIESSSS!!!"
luvin' it

hope you keep the trade reaction comments coming

Thanks, I'm glad no one started flaming me for trading away Tsakalidis
The X: I got another trade coming up, which will give me slightly more size.
And yea, that is a Cartman quote
Marquis: Thanks.

Yea, he'll get playing time for sure. He's one of my favourite players...

Warriors send Pietrus to Memphis
Grizzlies News | Oct. 6, 2006
The Golden State Warriors announced Thursday that they have acquired Dahntey Jones and Lawrence Roberts from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for forward Mickael Pietrus.
“We wish all the best for Mickael in Memphis, and we hope that there are no bad feelings" said the Warriors head coach Mike Montgomery. “But when you have a team like ours, you got to look for ways to increase your roster depth in order to be competitive; and since Memphis came with a fair trade offer that seemed to fit our need, that was basically it. We'll get stronger - they'll get stronger, it's a good trade for both teams really.”
"I think that we've been lacking that type of versatile player that can come in and put up his share of shots, but then just as well drive into the lane." Andreas Dahl said "Opponents will now know that we can shoot the outside shot, we can put the ball on the floor and drive the lane, and we can also get the ball down low. Pietrus will also give us an edge on the other end of the court with his outstanding defensive skills."
Pietrus is now in on his third NBA season and was drafted in 2003 straight from France by the Golden State Warriors. During his professional career he's averaging 18.7 minutes, 2.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 8.3 points per game.
Reactions about the trade:
- D. Jones: Was unavailable for a comment, but he was overheard screaming: "WHAT? HOW DARE THEY TRADE ME? I'M THE MAN! THE MAN BABEY! I'LL SHOW THEM ALL!!! BITCHES"
- M. Pietrus: "This came as a surprise to me, but I'm pretty happy with it. Golden State wasn't going in the directions that we was hoping it would; Memphis in the other hand seems like a real solid team this season. It'll be great to be a part of their organisation."
- S. Battier: "It feels great to have such a versatile player on the bench ready to step in at any time and give this team a boost."
- A. Begley (Asst. Coach): "Mickael is going to help us immensely on defense but we’re expecting good things from him at both ends. It’s a real luxury to have an athlete like him coming off the bench and plugging holes."
- Fan on the street: "Well, we traded one bad player and a mediocre player for a good payer whose name no one can pronounce... Seems like a fair deal to me. GO GRIZZLIESSSS!!!"
