Ive used the DB Commander for editing career packages and other items such as salaries, but i can't figure out how to edit their ratings. I'm in my second season and i wanted to edit some rookies to make them into James, Anthony, Ford, etc. My problem comes in with the numbers used for their ratings. It says that their overalls are like 33 and 67 and the field goals and other rating fields have really odd numbers that dont match with their ratings in the actual game. I just don't know how to edit something from an 85 to an 87 when the number in the editor is like 46.
Please help!

Andrew's players.dbf editing guide wrote:All player ability ratings are based on the following system in the DBF:
0-1=50
2-3=51
etc unless otherwise noted
Make sure you did that.

I still dont understand, why is duncans dribbling in the game a 73 but in the editor its a 46 or his speed is an 82 in game but in the editor its a 64. I still dont understand how to convert the numbers.

every 1 point of ratings in the game is the same as 2 points of ratings in the .dbf file

In other words:
0-1 is the equivalent of 50, the lowest rating
2-3 is the equivalent of 51, the second lowest rating
and so on.
Remember, every increase of 10 is worth 5.
0=50
10=55
20=60
and so on. It should be fairly easy to work out the rest.
Note: 99 in the DBF=99 in the game. There is no rating of 100 in the game or in the DBF.

Thanks for helping me with that, but now Ive come across another problem. Ive edited one of the rookies and his overall is staying the same. I know his overall should go up because i created a player with the same ratings and he turned out to have a 5 point higher overall than the rookie. Do I have to manually change it or does it just stay that way?

You'll have to go into Edit Player and change one of his ratings (ie increase his FG Rating by 1). This will cause the game to re-calculate the overall rating, based on the changes you made in DB Commander. You can then restore the desired FG rating and save the changes.

Well im in my second season, so i cant edit players ratings anymore does this mean that his overall cant change until next season?

Is it your player? If so, then editing his jersey number will result in the game recalculating his overall rating as well.

He is the rookie who was picked #1 in the draft, and im editing him to be Lebron james.

I tried changing his jersey number and the overall didnt change either.

Strange, it usually does...did you try changing the player's position?
If all else fails, save a new roster and copy the players.dbf file to the new slot. You can now edit a version your season's roster. Edit the ratings to recalculate the overall rating, save the changes, save the roster. You can then copy this players.dbf file back to your saved season's slot, with the changes and season statistics intact.
WARNING: Make sure you backup your season files just in case.

Just a question, this may sound dumb but, you seemed to do that pretty quickly (5 minutes) did you make sure you changed jersey number/position in the game and not just with the dbf editor. Because editing it with the editor would not work.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that.

You have to edit his jersey number in Franchise Mode. If you cannot do this (ie he's not on your team), then try the other method I posted.

I cant edit a players information if they aren't on my team so i had to change the number in the editor. And changing his position didnt work either, so i guess ill have to make it into a roster like andrew suggested.

Yeah, any changes made outside of the game will not recalculate the overall rating. Since he's not on your team, you'll have to use the other method I suggested.
