with the regular rosters what team can i use to beat the lakers beside san antoino what team and what players to play

Skill overcomes team ranking. You can use any team whose players you can properly utilise. Beating the Lakers is easier than it sounds - it's pretty easy to pick up cheap fouls on Shaq by taking the charge when he's backing you down.
As for the players you should use - anyone who fits into your style of play. However, I've found that Rasho Nesterovic is pretty good at drawing offensive fouls on Shaq, while Mark Jackson is not. It should be noted that Nesterovic is less than 250 pounds, while Jackson is around 270. I'm not sure if it's coincidence, but it seems lighter players draw charges much easier.

It makes sense, but I'm not sure if it's really the case in Live 2003, or just coincidence.

Beating the Lakers is easy.
First thing you gota do is do what Andrew said...draw offensive fouls on Shaq. I could easily get 3 fouls on Shaq in the first quarter, forcing him to sit out most of the game.
The second thing you got to do is to NOT double team any of the Lakers...especially Kobe or Shaq (if he's still in the game). By double teaming Kobe or Shaq, it leaves Fisher/Horry/Fox wide open for the three point shot, which is pretty much results in automatic points in this game.
The third thing is to play tight man on man coverage. Don't use the zone D on the Lakers, it doesn't work as well as the man on man.
