What is Primacy?

Thu Jan 12, 2006 9:40 am

Does anybody have a real definition for the primacy rating? does it simply define the number of shots taken by a player?

thanks in advance,
erich

I don't have a definition, but I think primacy determines how often the CPU will try to run plays through that player, and get the ball to him when it matters.

you can consider it as a "go-to guy" rating. the higher the primacy, the bigger shots the player will make.

Or attempt...

so it is distinct from the NUMBER of shots taken by a player? interesting. So is it cheating to change a players Primacy rating? Does it affect my player's ability to make the shot, or just the player's propensity for taking it?

Here is my delimma... I like to build a team around strong scoring at the 2 and 3 position. I like strong rebounding and defense at the 4 and 5, with the PG beng a strong distributer with a good FT%. So that's my team.

The peoblem is that when I sim games, my box scores usually come out with my center and PG taking 23+ shots, while my sf has 8 attempts. I would like to modify the DBFs such that I get 20-25 shots per-night from my SG and SF, with everybody else scoring on garbage and in the flow. Is there a way to make the sim games do this?

Does anybody know how to make this happen?

thanks,
erich

I guess you could bring down the PGs primacy and bring up that of the SG and SF. I'm not sure though because I dont really mess with that stuff.

It's not really cheating to change the Primacy, unless you're doing so to reduce a Superstar's touches to make the CPU easier. ;) Changing Primacy won't really make your team better, just change the distribution of shots in simulation.

Exactly^^^

Primacy is a thing that works only when simulating games or in CPU teams.

It really means how many FG ATTEMPTS a guy has, an nothing more.

Then, it depends on the primacy ratings of the other players on the court.

I mean, if you have all the 5 guys with 99 primacy on the floor then it means that "99" ratings doesn't mean anything since there isn't any difference between these players, primacy-wise.

So they should all have kinda the same amount of FG ATTEMPTS. And it might be that the player who scores the most is the player that his defender is the worse (has the worst defensive awareness rating).

It's pretty much mathematics and probabilities...

So, to make it clear, let's say you want Kobe Bryant of the LAL (you don't play with LAL in your Dynasty, you let the team to the CPU) to average 35 ppg like in real-life.

You need to set his primacy ratings to 99 and mess a little with his FG and put it around 96, 3-pointers 83, free-throws 83 and then get on the work with all the other LAL players, getting their primacy lower. So if Lamar Odom has a 72 primacy, you get that down to like 62 or something. The rest of the players should have around 20-55, depending on the player. I mean, Medvedenko should have 10 and Chris Mihm like 55.

I hope you get the point.
