[Jazz Boxscore] [Kings Boxscore]

[SACRAMENTO, Feb. 5] – Today’s rematch between the Jazz and the Kings was much exciting as the game went into the final seconds. With the ball and down by one the King’s Mike Bibby decided to win the game with a three pointer, but he missed and so did the tip by forward Kenny Thomas. Jazz center Mehmet Okur grabbed the ball and flung it to guard Deron Williams, who threw the ball across the court to prevent from being fouled, and just like that the game was over and again the Jazz managed to escape the jaws of a close loss.

Again this game the Jazz performed better than the Kings, because they won and because they had better statistics in almost everything. Utah managed to win the rebounding race again with 32 to Sacramento’s 31, and dished out 32 assists to the Kings’ 24. The star of the game was Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko, who helped the Jazz keep their lead and played tough defense and forced some bad shots by the Kings’ forwards. Kirilenko tied with the Kings’ Bonzi Wells at 25 points, but he also grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 8 assists, and was thus named the player of the game.

The Kings fell behind by a huge margin after it looked like they were closing in on the Jazz, and in the third was outscored by 7 to further increase their deficit. However in the 4th the backcourt of Bibby and Wells came alive hitting 2 three-pointers each while taking over the game for the Kings. However no matter how well a player performs, people are not going to remember him by how well he did during the course of the game, but instead how he performed when his team needed him to make the last second shot.

The Jazz’s schedule doesn’t get any easier from this game as they travel back home and prepare for the Chicago Bulls, a team who is always dangerous with the backcourt of Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich, as well as the extremely power frontcourt of Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler.

Mike Bibby: 1
Andrei Kirilenko: 1 2
Peja Stojakovic: 1
Kenny Thomas: 1
Deron Williams: 1

Korver and Giricek Swap Teams

ImageImageImageImage

[SALT LAKE CITY, Feb 6] – After landing from the flight back after a last second win against the Sacramento Kings, the Jazz GM told the reporters from the USA Today that on the plane back they have achieved a trade that will send struggling starting shooting guard Gordon Giricek to the Philadelphia 76ers for their starting shooting guard, Kyle Korver.

“It is sad to trade Gordon, but he has just not been performing. It’s a slump perhaps, but we can’t take any risks because we got teams like Houston and San Antonio right on our tails, and that is bad chemistry. We had some private workouts with Kyle and he really awed us.” – The GM said.

This trade takes another step into the Jazz’s complete makeover, the only players left on the original team are centers Mehmet Okur and Jarron Collins, forward Andrei Kirilenko, and rookie Deron Williams. Korver is expected to start at shooting guard while Jeff McInnis will be moved back into his 6th man spot. Some critics are questioning the trade because so far Giricek is among the top 10 in three point percentage and have been shooting better than Korver. Korver however is a better defender and is able to hold down his defender a lot more effectively while still able to shoot almost as well as Giricek. This defensive advantage will hopefully help the Jazz, especially in the last quarter, where the Jazz have had trouble holding off teams.

“We hope Kyle will make us even better and widen the gap between us and the rest of the teams in the league. This is all just a gradual buildup for the toughest part of the season: the playoffs.”

Gordon Giricek could not be contacted. Korver arrived earlier today for a workout and will play in the home game against the Chicago Bulls later tonight at 8.
