CANT LOAD THE PATCH (XP)

I already had a talk with andrew about it, but he doesnt have much experience with XP; so WHO here has XP, had the same problem with loading it, and can help me?

I click the install.bat button, it opens quickly, and closes quickly. It doesnt create the necessary files, and ive tried sending the zip file to atleast 3 locations, all unsuccessful.

The batch file that Andrew uses to install the roster patch is written for Windows 95/98/ME etc.. and will not work with Windows 2000/XP.

This is not really Andrew's fault.. it is stupid microsoft who can't keep standards... anyway Andrew would need to create a different batch file for windows 2000/XP which uses their commands to copy and move files etc...

But all you have to do is this:
Copy all the files from the zip into the following diresctories:

saves/000
saves/001
saves/002
and saves/003

Then in the 001 folder delete the players.dbf file and saves.dat files and rename the players.001 file to players.dbf and the saves.001 to saves.dat.

Then in the 002 folder delete the players.dbf file and saves.dat file and rename the players.002 file to players.dbf and the saves.002 to saves.dat.

Then in the 003 folder delete the players.dbf file and saves.dat file and rename the players.003 file to players.dbf and the saves.003 to saves.dat.

That is it the patch is installed. If you want to tidy things up you can delete any leftover *.001, *.002, *.003 or *.txt files out of all the folders cause they are not really needed...

I would recommend to Andrew though that he use a Windows Installer to install his patch rather than a batch file. It is alot easier to set up and for people to use and would also work on all Windows versions.

That would be the better solution...I'm yet to find Windows Installation creation software that allows me to create an appropriate installation routine though (checking for the correct folder, etc). If I can create a suitable windows installation using the software I have (or something better), I'll definitely replace the batch file method.

I have to disagree with DreamSPeaker: I am using Windows XP and the patch works perfectly. The same true on my brothers computer... Could it make a difference, wether you are uisng XP home or professional?

Yeah, for some people, the batch files do work, which is what really puzzles me. But the best solution would still be to replace the current installation with one that will definitely work across all platforms - which I will do when I can achieve the desired results.

you may want to check out QSetup... http://www.panta-ray.com/ it is what i use for all my installations. It does everything and is free for a fully registered version (for non-comercial use which is what the roster patch is)... but there are many others... all you need is one that can look up the registry and copy/move files... most windows installers can do that...

when you say to save it into the save/001 .............. files do u have zip it that many times and save it to every one of those individually? i'm not quite following

no... unzip the files that many times... into the four directories...

all the files are the same in the directories except for the players.dbf and saves.dat files. You just rename the players.001 to players.dbf in the 001 folder etc... understand...

One QUICK question: can I erase the three saved files after it says Load Successful or whatever?

You can, but it means you'll have to reinstall the patch if you want to load the rosters again. Whenever you load a Franchise game or start a new one, your rosters will be reset upon leaving Franchise mode.

I didn't realize I double posted, my fault. When I click on Live 2003 under my documents there is no save folder, is this normal?

No, there should be a saves folder somewhere. From some of the emails I get, it seems that there's two folders under XP where the saves folder may be stored - for some users, it's the same as Win 98, for others it's the XP specific folder. Check update.txt for the specific folders.
