Player Progression??

Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:19 am

Hi all, I'm new to this forum, but not to the NBA Live series. I just purchased 06' for my xbox 30 minutes ago and haven't played it yet.

When I played '05, I would draft an awesome rookie, average 35 pts per game with him (no injuries) and not only would these rookies not progress, they would actually regress. So my question is this; are rookies any better this year when it comes to progression. I just don't feel like playing 82+ games and finding out that my rookie who puts up 35+ per game gets worse (which is which is absolutly ridiculous).

Player development is still based upon their "DESTINY" attribute rather than their statistical output.

Translation: Yes.

Okay, I understand that. Madden football was the same way 5 years ago.

So basically, its best to draft a player with really high potential?

I didn't think it really required a "translation", but thanks anyway.

Hazzyguy: That's right, the best way is to draft/acquire someone with high potential. If you're using the PC version you can always keep tabs on a player's Destiny attribute by opening up players.dbf. You could always edit the values of course but that would be cheating. ;)

Otherwise, the best plan is to make sure you note a player's development potential when you draft him and sim a few seasons to see which players increase more often than not. That'll give you a good idea who to pursue.

He did say he was a newbie and you cant really expect a newbie to understand what you said.

Hope you take this as constructive criticism.

Tue Dec 13, 2005 6:34 pm

I wasn't offended, just puzzled as to why you offered a translation especially since my explanation didn't go into much detail and answered the question concisely. Hazzy did also mention that he wasn't new to the game, only the forums.

Tue Dec 13, 2005 6:51 pm

Point is he said he was new to the forums. Anyone who is not new to the game but new to the community cant be expected to understand your lingo. (N)

I really don't care for your attitude.

As I said, my post was concise. I didn't use any "lingo". I referenced an attribute within the game's database but the point was fairly clear: statistical output doesn't affect player progression.

Please stop trying to stir up trouble.

Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:02 pm

Im not, i am merely giving you constructive criticism.

Whic you seem unable to take. (N)

Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:06 pm

Again, cut out the attitude, immediately please. I am able to take constructive criticism, but there's really no need to criticise what I'm doing. Besides, it's really more pedantic nitpicking.

Drop the attitude.

Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:08 pm

I stand by what i said that i was merely criticizing you constructively.

But since you run this site, then i am sorry.

Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:16 pm

I don't quite see how an unnecessary comment is constructive criticism. It should be clear by now that Hazzy understood what I was saying, even if he was unfamiliar with some of the terminology. Your use of the "rolling eyes" emoticon also suggests a tone that perhaps wasn't intentional.

I'm not trying to make an issue out of this to assert my "power" or simply pick a fight, I've just noticed some of the things you've posted and they way you've posted them and they perhaps don't come off the way you intended. To that end, I'm giving you a heads up about it because I'm sure you don't want to irritate your fellow posters so early in the picture.

The other thing is...I've been running the NLSC and posting advice for others for a long time now, I do like to think I know what I'm doing. I always clarify follow up questions if my first post didn't explain things clearly enough or opened up the topic for further discussion. So again, thanks for any help/constructive criticism you may feel you were giving, but I am used to answering questions in the forum.

Anyway, no harm done. I think the question has been well and truly answered by now. :)

Well, thanks for the help guys. I understood it easily after the first reply. I just wanted to completly clear up any confusion on how the player progresses. Again, thanks guys.

I understood it easily after the first reply.

He did understood the "lingo"

OMG he understood the lingo!11!111!1 :x

OK, I think we're done here.

By the way Hazzy, I did overlook the fact you've got the XBox version, sorry about that. I'd recommend simming a few Dynasties and checking out which players have the best chance of improving if you'd like an idea of who has the best potential in the game. You can also download the roster update and open up players.dbf in DB Commander to look at the DESTINY ratings though with roster updates they may not be the original values so won't be accurate for the console versions.

Hi there,

By "destint' are you referring to the very, limited, limited, average, good, excellent ratings that are used during scouting/drafting? I play PS2 by the way.

thanks
