[SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 3] – After a dramatic comeback that fell short again the Jazz 2 days ago in Los Angeles, the Lakers arrived in Salt Lake looking for some revenge. The entire game both teams were equally matched. The Jazz won the first quarter by one, but then the Lakers won the 2nd quarter one and went into the half tied at 55. The teams were again trading baskets in the 3rd quarter; each team scoring 26 points to remain tied. Finally in the last period, Kobe Bryant and Sasha Vujacic exploded each scoring 10 points while the big men of Mihm and Brown constantly thwarted the Jazz. On the last possession, the Jazz gave it to the only man on their team who was able to do anything in the last quarter, Gordon Giricek, but a good double team by Mihm and Bryant caused Giricek to throw up an awkward shot that barely hit rim.
Kobe Bryant was named the player of the game with 43 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Center Chris Mihm was a huge contributer with 21 points and 13 boards while Kwame Browne cleaned the offensive boards with 10. The Lakers also out-rebounded the Jazz 54 – 28, including 26 offensive boards to just 10.
For the Jazz their leading scorer was Giricek with 30 points on 11-17 shooting. Andrew Bogut had 23 points as well as 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Andrei Kirilenko added 15 while Deron Williams and Jeff McInnis also scored in double figures with 13 and 11 respectively.
“We’ve been struggling lately, I think the pressure of winning and playing with only nine men are really getting to us. Having Charlie out is huge because he was really explosive, and Jason out is horrible because he is the one that dictates what happens on the court, he is one of the guys that when he is on the court really changes everything, he sees everything that happens. Being without these guys really put the ones who are not injured in a lot of pressure to perform. I’ll be happy when they come back.” – Point guard Deron Williams told the Salt Lake Tribune. The Jazz will get another 2 day break before facing the Memphis Grizzlies.
Gordon Giricek: 1
Udonis Haslem: 1
Kobe Bryant: 1 2 3
Jeff McInnis: 1
Chris Mihm: 1
Lamar Odom: 1
Miscellaneous: 1 2
