I really miss the previous offensive sets and plays too.

EA should have given us an option to use both. For example, we have to use one of the offensive "plays" as our offensive strategy. There is no Play or set variation that I can see, except the computer switching to one of the other plays on your D-Pad options.

If you call a play it always has to start from the same place and the players always move to the same spots regardless of left or right. (Ex. PF and Power C are always on the left....never right)

I miss choosing a play from a Set where the look is similar but the play can be different. To me that is much more realistic.

Lastly I wish EA would allow us to rename and save the plays so we would play with notification "ON" if we chose when facing a human opponent.

I hope someone here can tell me there is a code or something to access the previous plays from the past 2 years. I consider this change of plays a move away from a improving NBA simulation. You cant just take all the plays and sets and throw them out the window. :?

The play in your strategy is really never executed. Plays usually execute with the PG moving to a certain spot.

Then what is the purpose of Strategy? When is the "Strategy Play" on Offense and Defense for that matter in progress?

To the test tube peoples.......unless somebody has the answer already?

It's a shame the way EA just leaves us out there. And I have seen the EA Guide.....very elementary if you are looking for advanced basketball knowledge of what this game can do for an advanced player.

mustafaaab,

I could not agree with you more. I recently asked the same basic question in the "Playmaker" sticky up above. No real answers yet. I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that there seems to be no real difference in the player movement based on the Offensive Strategy selected. I agree with you - I miss the various base sets that 2005 had - Motion, Inside Triangle, Utah, whatever. Now if I want to see the PF up high (for example), I either need to call a Play or move him out there myself because there is not a Strategy that starts him up high.

Don't get me wrong - I like many of the improvements with 06...but it seems we are always taking two steps forward and one step back. This year it is no Offensive Strategy to speak of and waaaaaaay to many Offinsive rebounds.
In theory there is no difference between theory and reality...except that there is in reality.

It may be possible to add plays from nba live 2005 into live 06. Since the plays.dbf file is pretty much the same as last year, you can extract the ply files from 2005's xplays.viv and import them into 06's, but I'm sure something else has to be done to be able to select and execute them in-game.

Well, I think the plays work just fine "Options" when called starts the PF up high from the arc and he cuts a backscreen and the SG/SF whoever is on the PG left Side will spot up for a corner 3. You jus have to call the plays every time down court, if not it defaults back to like a "Shooter A" strategy. Also the plays are differnet when called by different players(i.e., if you call "High Screen" with the PF the PG will cut down low and post). Just my .02

DTNTER2003,

I like the plays too...but don't want to have to call one every time down the court just to get decent player movement on the court. In 2005 the selection of the different offensive strategies resulted in different starting positions and player movement without "calling" for a specific play.

In 2006 there seems to be no impact to choosing different offinsive stratgies...so why have the feature if only calling a play gives you any variation in player positiion and movement? I can only hope this is improved next year.

if you want player movement, pass the ball around the 3point line

you get used to calling plays pretty quickly too, it becomes second nature.

im sorry but i think that the plays in 2006 have improved. in the past nba lives, you can only bind 4 plays and have to press esc to be able to change plays (that is, when you are against a computer). In 2006, you can bind 8 plays, one of my favorites are "high screen" (pressing 1-1 quickly if you use san antonio) the shooting guard goes to the left baseline and the small forwad to the right baseline. when i see them guarded i press 2-2 (i forgot the name of the play) and the SG cuts to the right together with the small forward cutting to the opposite direction. it often makes 1 of them free when im against a human player. The only downside here is that you cannot change the plays during the game.. it will always be 1-pick and roll, 2-pick and pop, 3-post up, 4-isolation. 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 (depending on the teams) if that's what you want to point out against human players.

I really liked the on screen ability to filter through plays in the set you were running. All that was needed was a way to change the name of the plays so you could keep your opponent from knowing what you were running.

If there is a way to load and use those plays from 2005 for the PS2, please advise. Getting my sets back would make this game "near"complete. Left and right options to start the current plays would force me to rate the game 9.8.
