Apparently if you play with the superstar settings, the game automatically saves it. Is Redd in Milwaukee a shooter or an an outside scorer?

yeah if u use redd, just run up to the three and use the quick relese shot(super star ability) and he'll never miss! i've shot 52/54 3 pointers with him in one game, he got 152 points!

is that "quick release" shot the one which is perform by pressing the left-trigger and the O (circle) button

Yes. It's the Superstar Trigger + the Shoot button.

when using quick release the defender is more likely to lose his mind/position so the shooter is more likely to make the shot, quite useful
