Is it Possible to set a pick

Sat Nov 05, 2005 7:36 pm

In versions of live up to 2005, you could set a pick with an off the ball player. Not call for a pick, but if you're controlling a player without the ball set the pick.

This was usefull in two player v two player games and to do a screen and roll if you were solo and took a player off the ball by holding the pass button for a second after the pass.

But I've tried every key in 2006 and can't set an offensive pick.

Calling for a pick works, but setting one or calling for one if another player (besides the one you control) has the ball doesn't.

Can anyone help?

Isn't it the ally oop button?
It's some weird funky button that you'd NEVER expect...

I have asked this question in several posts now....no one has answered.

I have tried every button and combo of buttons to no avail.

Ally oop button makes the guy with the ball ally oop it to you.

Well if you tap it's that.
If you hold, it's not...That's what I remember it being..not too sure.

Tap or hold, as soon as the ally oop button is touched the guy with the ball tosses it up for an ally oop.

I've just re-tested in a game with every button, including the crossover button whis I didn't originally have bound to anything, and nothing makes me set the pick when I'm controlling off the ball.

New insights appreciated

Screen Game
High Screen
Rising Sun
Philly

Those are some pf the plays if you setup in your playbook that will have a PF come up and set a high screen for you.

There are a few others aswell.

As for a regular screen call I don't bother.

Im not talking about a screen for me. I'm talking when I control a player off the ball, and want to set a screen for the guy who has the ball.

I believe it is a flaw in the game that EA will never admit. I bet the programmer who missed this one is gonna be catching hell as the word gets out.

This oversight really takes away from the game and is very, very unfortunate especially for people like me who play 70% off ball.

I hope a rebate check is in order sometime between now and next game.

Questions:

Does this problem exist on all the other game systems and on the computer? If you are playing Live on the computer does EA issue patches for things like this?

Is there any programming fix for this on the game systems?

I've only played on PC.

Why does EA break things that worked in previous versions?

You can still use the pic for your off ball player to set screens for yourself.

If you are off ball and call for a pick, the pick comes to your off ball man. and the computer ball handler starts to dribble and make moves towards the basket. This allows many, many options.

It takes practice but the screens that get set for your off ball man, can get you open for passes and alley-oops using the off ball moves.

I dont believe this was EA's intention, I believe it was an error....however.....we have to take lemons and make lemonade...while we wait for next year. :x

Yes I've seen that. But the biggest problem is sometimes a good pick by you, off ball, will free the ball handler for an open shot.

This is particularly useful in 2v2 and when playing locked.

After experimenting with this off ball flaw I hope they keep this FLAW option next year and fix it too.

If they could do:

D-pad up to set a pick for the off ball man
D-pad down to set a pick for the Ball handler

This game would then be "OFF BALL OFF THE HOOK"!!!!!! :D
