What exactly is the "back down button" and can't..

Hi,
Sorry for this newbie question. It has been a couple of years since I last played Live. Could anybody please explain what this "back down button" feature is and how important it is in the game. I simply don't like playing with gamepads and prefer to use the keyboard as controller but apparently in 06 this back down button is gone for keyboard users from what I read.
So what exactly is this back down feature and how important is it. Isn't it so that for pushing your oponent back under the ring you simply bump into him.. at least it used to be like that years ago.. what did the back down button add to the game, what makes it so important, can't you simply bump away a guy under the ring if you have a big player or isn't that the same?..

for 06 the backdown button isnt really needed because you can just on players anyway

The backdown method:
1 Go to local games outlet
2 Pick up copy of NBA LIVE '06
3 Walk to counter
4 Stop
5 Walk backwards slowly and carefully, keeping a tight grasp on your wallet
6 Put the game back down anywhere and shuffle back out.

I think that's the Backaway move and not Backdown.

Backdown button in previous lives allows the user controlled player to post up against a defender.
