What's with all these dbf files?

This game is a bit confusing... There are copies of the teams.dbf, players.dbf, etc., in the game directory (origdb), then in the "My Documents" folder, there's Saves, OrigDB, CurrentDB, WorkingDB.
And I also noticed that when I go into the game and the load screen, I see two "000" slots, neither will delete, and I never know which roster is loaded when I start up the game.
What's the difference among all these different copies of the files? Which ones are used, and which ones does the game load on default?

The currentdb is the one that is the last one you used. The origdb is the original one that the programmers make. The ones in saves belong to your different rosters/franchises/seasons. About seeing 2 000 slots, go into your saves folder (it seems like you know where it is but, my documents:arrow:nba live 2003:arrow:saves) and change one of the folders names to 001. The default one loaded is the last one you used so it's, currentdb. I'm not sure about a workingdb, I haven't seen it before, or don't recall seing it.

The two 000 slots problem, usually occurs when you have two save.dat files that belong to the 000 slot ie. one in slot 000, and one in, say, 001. The game will recognise both as slot 000, thus there will be errors.
When installing the NLSC roster update (slots 000-003), it's best to open your saved files in slots 000-003 and save them in slot 004 onwards. If you simply rename the save folders, you will encounter this problem. The suggestion of renaming the save folders dates back to NBA 98-2000, when this was possible to do without causing errors. I should update that information in the readme file.

So I assume then that the game only really uses the dbf files in C:\My Documents\...? What database does it use by default when the game is started? Is that the currentdb?
The reason I ask is because after installing the NLSC Updates, I'd like the game to use that as my default roster when starting up. There's really no need for the game to use the "factory default" rosters anymore.

Yes, the NLSC roster uses the save slots (My Documents). I suggest copying the roster of your choice to all the db folders. I'm not sure if the game uses the dbf files in My Documents or the main game folder (there's a database folder in each) when resetting to the default.
