Live 06 Re-Evaluation

It's been almost a month now since i went on and on about retiring from Live EASO play. And after perservering I find that Live 06 does have some "realistic" qualities. Contrary to popular belief, '06 does have defense, it is just takes more effort. First of all, DO NOT choose a team with no defensive superstars, almost a guaranteed loss against an experienced player. Secondly, (and again going against the grain) EA actually made the game more like real NBA ball in the fact that, yes you score score alots and often, but you can also go on defensive runs. I have started many games in a slump and won with DEFENSE, not scoring, but the D. Three or four steals in a row can make a huge impact on a seesaw game of offense. Here are some of my observations for D strategy online.

Half Court Man- IMO the best option with agood D oriented team; decent AI doubles and big men rotate well; susceptable to frequent mismatches.

Half Court Trap- use this to slow down peeps who like to try and run around and score with one guy(i.e., switch T-Mac to the point); traps as soon as the cross half court; be watchful, your big men WIll vacate the paint giving up easy opps and dishes for layins; keep a manual lookout for the lob

Full Court Press- same as Half Court with more aggressive AI; gives up some easy layins due to increased pressure.

Double Team- They reverted here, the spacing in '06 is better but the double team defense still slows the pace of the game heavily; prone to giving up open Js and 3s if u don lookout

And of course Superstar Steals, Blocks and Charges are your friend, don get over zealous though, a skilled player will eat u alive if you try and take charges all the time or go for steals at the wrong moment

this is so true. thats what i've been telling everyone that says this game doesnt have defense! IT DOES HAVE DEFENSE YOU JUST HAVE TO LEARN TO PLAY IT!

okay, but how about guys just shooting threes from mid court and hitting every shot with the shooters? And the powerplayers who are virtually unstoppable. Okay the mess up 2 out of 10 times,but Kenyon Martin does not shoot 80%.
I played some games IP to IP and they were pretty good when playing against players who play normal ball and on superstar level with fatigue set high, but EASO rated games are bullshit and too easy and most guys only play ranked games or they play bullshit custom games with speed set to 100 or something.

I suggest, you find the place where the settings are to your liking so that you have fun playing hte game....

indeed, i used the 2-1-1 press against the nuggets using the lakers and outscored them 56-30, 30 being the easy oops due to the vacated big men, but it worked for awhile and it seemed as the nuggets were running a pressbreaker so i had to stop and play some man to man

i love that half court trap when you want to get the opposing PG to get rid of the ball.

It's also a great weapon against poor dribblers.

Seems to me that 90% of all online players only go for the exploits and cheep play. This is exclusive to neither NBA-Live nor EASO. Any kind of game, be it sports, FPS, MMORPG, RTS, you'll find more than your share of douchebags. This isn't a problem with sliders, player ratings, or programming, this is the nature of online gaming.

Yeh its an epidemic down at ea server guys just doing one thing all game totaly exploiting it but thats just the nature of the set up and rules they have in there.

If you wanna come close to playing no cheese ball then find the right league that goes through direct i.p.Each league will have a dif set of rules and shit but it makes everyone in them think more use set plays more and just play a hard but fair style of game.

Basicaly the league im in doesnt tollerate any thing done to excess like say alley oops every second play,ni inbounds stealing is another and no taking charge down low or anywhere unless hte opponent tends to back down too often.

Aussie Live Online has servived for a few years now on some good basic princibles and theres always a praccy game to be played with a member in the offseason so ea servers( cheese ) can go fuck it self.
