Anyone sick of threes, especially contested ones that drop?

Sat Apr 26, 2003 2:59 pm

I've found (on my keyboard) attempting to block the shot does very little to lower the % of threes that go down, unless you actually connect on the block.

I have been experimenting and from what i have found the best way of lowering the % of these shots that are successful is to put your hands up, by pressing the takecharge button just as the player is about to shoot.

This reduced one teams 3P% dramatically, I held them to 1 from 10 for the rest of the game after i started doing it as opposed to the usual 30 or 40% of contested shots (may i repeat how annoying it is the amount of contested shots that connect in this game). 2 of the 10 attempts even airballed (using Kenny Anderson and Robert Pack as the defenders, neither of which are very tall).

This method works!

Or by moving the right analog stick (or w/e u use for freestyle) stick up with your controller.

It does help, I have been doing this for a while now. Thanks though as there are still probably people around who don't do it.

A tip: Make sure you are close enough to the defender when you raise your arms, else you won't challenge the shot at all. Be wary of players running you off picks - if you get caught up by the player setting the pick, you won't be able to recover in time to challenge the shot.

does that mean that even though cpu players with high defability will still not be able to have an effect on players taking threes?

I think defensive awareness/blocking/height is a factor, but if you raise your arms too late or are too far away, then you're probably not going to alter your opponent's shot.

HOW do you call for a pick??

Sat Apr 26, 2003 6:17 pm

to call for a pick press the playcalling button. when you raise your hand hold the turbo button it can help miss the shot.

Do you have an analog joystick?

For the first part, you need an controller with an analog, I forget exactly how to do that paticular move, but just experiment.

The button that mkaes you go faster for a split second (It seems like you don't know this but you can hold it down and you keep on going faster) is called the 'turbo' button. Choose what you want it to be in the configure controller screen.

With a dual analog gamepad, hold down on the right stick to hold the ball behind you.

As Colin said, the turbo button will help you run faster.

The other thing you mentioned occurs when a player is not dribbling the basketball, and you use the playcalling button. The player will then raise his hand, calling the play (just as in real life). If he's dribbling, he'll raise one hand while dribbling, if he's not dribbling, he'll hold the ball at his waist.
