Do you mean a black screen because of an advanced GF4 or an advanced driver.

I'm using the 40.72's on the demo and it works fine.

What OS system you on?

Is the GeForce 4 MX series any good? There are some that say that it's just a souped up GeForce2. And others say that GeForce 2 Ti is even better in performance with its 6.4 GB/s memory bandwidth.

I'm planning to upgrade my TNT2 to the GeForce; however, I'm having a hard time choosing which. I know I can't afford a GeForce 4 Ti so I'm swerving my path to its MX series, I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision.

Thanks in anticipation!

I have GeForce 4MX, it works great. I didn't have money too, so I bought this card; if you don't have much money, MX is a good choice. of cause Ti is better, but it is more expensive. If you just want to get a new card to play Live 2003, MX is enough.

Huge thanks ningtong, I'll consider that :D

Wed Nov 20, 2002 3:04 pm

WHICH DRIVER SHOULD I DL on the via chip website? ... the 4 in 1?
thank u

Wed Nov 20, 2002 4:37 pm

yes the 4-in-1 will work fine...

And the MX series of graphics cards suck =P But I suppose if you only plan on playing Live 2003, then you'll be fine.

I have a GeForce 4 MX 440. It runs fine and looks good too. I didn't have the money but they're are fine if you can't afford a Ti.

I would only get a 440 or 460 though. Anything below is not worth it.

If you have some money, the best value imo is albatron ti4200 turbo. it can overclock to ti4600 speeds for around $160. Or you could wait for Radeon 9500 Pro.

i got the black screen problem too.
i got geforce 2-64 MB.
i downloaded the 40.72 driver update and it still won't work.

I have a 64 MB Geoforce 4 MX. It plays live fine. I didn't have too much money to spend so I bought that. By next march i'll upgrade again.

hey kaydigi and sonic...you guys really brought a smile to my face when i heard you guys were more than satisfied with your geforce4 mx 440s...now u have me on pricewatch on the brink of purchasing it...but i have a couple of questions...

is there that much of a difference between 64mb and 128mb (is it worth paying the extra 25 bucks)?
if there really isnt that much of a differnce should i just go ahead and get the geforce4 mx 460?
why is the geforc3 ti series more expensive than the geforce4 series?
what are the specs for your computers?

mine...
dell p4 1.3 ghz windows me
128 mb rdram
a lot of disk space
nvidia geforce2 mx400/mx 32mb

ok...sorry...maybe thats more than a couple of questions...but i'd really appreciate it if you guys helped me out...thanks

GodSonInfinite, basically I'd buy the best card you can afford. If the GF4 MX460 is in your price range get it.
I can't give you an honest answer to the difference between 64mb and 128mb version, I can tell you that mine is the 64mb version and it handles it just fine.

If I were you I'd buy the GF4 MX460 or 440 and if you can....get some more ram. 128 is ok but 256 or 512 is even better.

This is a simple one... the Geforce3 Ti series is better than the Geforce 4 MX series... the MX series is basically a souped up GeForce 2, nothing more.

Check out this http://www.tech-report.com/etc/2002q3/g ... ex.x?pg=11 read the conclusion. It'll give you a bit of insight on the difference.

The 440 and 460 are similar. Just don't get anything below it.

GodSonInfinite wrote:why is the geforc3 ti series more expensive than the geforce4 series?

Ti series cards are better. The GeForce 4 MX series is a budget line.

GodSonInfinite wrote:what are the specs for your computers?

AMD Athlon XP 1800
Windows XP
512 DDRAM
GeForce 4 MX 440 64 MB

Bottom line, go the 128 MB if you can afford it. It is better but by not much and you'll only notice the difference if your a hardcore gamer. Otherwise the 64 MB is fine. I've had no trouble and it looks good with all games I've played so far.
