Low-Qual' Jerseys (Help!)

I need help, whenever I import my jerseys from .BMP, they are low quality, but they look nice in photoshop, yet not in EAGE...
Is there a way to raise quality in EAGE?

You pic does look really bad

In general, all images must be reduced from 24 bpp to 16 bpp to be saved as a DXT1 file (jerseys). This will result in loss of color.

Also, the dimensions of your bitmap must be exactly the same as the target, or you will also get a loss of clarity.

If the photoshop plug-in is in your PS "plugins" directory then
1. Select File | Save As..
2. Then from the Save As dialog box, use the "Save As" drop down combo box to select the "DDS (*.DDS)" type. (you may have to scroll up or down in the combo list to find it).
3. Once you hit the save button another dialog box will popup with scores of choices. You just want to check the DXT1 box

As for dimension, open up an existing game jersey. You will notice that the dimensions are 512 x 512. Your created jersey must have these dimensions. Furthermore, DXTC compression requires the image LxW dimensions be divisible by 4. So, a 511 x 513 can not be DXTC compressed (easily ).

If you tried some other way of importing the jersey (besides dds) EAGE will do that, but it will stretch or constrict the image to do so. This will lead to your jersey not looking like you intended.

This is the nature of patching.

All I can say is learn as much as you can and hang in there. Real knowledge is gained through sweat. I would think that other patchers would help you more here, but you do not seem to get many responses to your problem.

If you used the plug-in, then you are using something very similar to what EA is using. So it's not the fault of the plugin.

Just make a 24 bpp image they way you like it. Make sure it is exactly the same dimensions as the original. (e.g. 512x512)

Open the extracted jersey fsh file from the correct viv. Import your graphic using EAGE.

Several people on this forum have make excellent jersey templates to start with. Also, there are jersey tutorials if you snoop around in the forum enough.

24 bpp is 24 'bits-per-pixel'. There are 8 bits (0s and 1s) to a byte, so 24 bits is 3 bytes. One byte for Red, Green, and Blue. So in most editors you would create or convert your image to 'RGB' mode.

The two most common modes are 8 bpp and 24 bpp. 8bpp images can display only 256 colors at once, but take up less video memory. 24 bpp images can show over 24 milliion colors, but take up a lot of video memory (3 times more).

The native format of windows is Bitmap. Other formats like jpg, png, or gif are made from the bitmap and offer file size benefits. Still these images must be decompressed into video memory.
