You did lie you moron. You specifically said no matter whether you put the game speed from 0 to 99 it doesn't make a difference, when in 2K5 there is no 0-99... in fact, the game speed isn't even in the 0-99 sliders category.

I don't really like the idea of making this a basketball video game website, it's always been about Live. Maybe in future we could branch out but it doesn't seem feasable at the moment.

It still doesn't stop people complaining about Madden being far advanced to NBA Live. I think the fact that both are products of EA adds to this, and while they are different sports they do indirectly compete because people tend to blanket all EA Sports titles together.

That's indeed true. But NBA Live's real competition is the 2K series and other basketball games, though Madden does still serve as a benchmark for EA's sport sim titles, no question.

There's always been alternatives to NBA Live, it's not as if 2K is the only other basketbal gamel that's been made. Other games have come and gone and Live has still remained on top, then this one comes along and suddenly (on the console front at least) there's some competition. That's not because this game is "newer" then Live, it's because it has things that people think Live lacks.

It's not the only reason, but I think when anything (or anyone) new comes along and challenges something (or someone) that's been around for a long time there's a perception that the new something (or someone) is better. They may be right, they may be wrong. But as the older series, NBA Live is more likely to be written off as a thing of the past.

The other alternatives to NBA Live haven't been as stable throughout the last decade, at least for the most part. NBA Live is the only title that's been released every year for the past decade, the only annual release until 2K came along. I've played a couple of those alternatives and while they had their good points they just didn't match up with Live across the board, in my opinion.

Andrew my friend, you MUST purchase NBA 2K6 this year and play it. The only thing holding the 2k series back is that its not available on PC...

Seeing as though I prefer to play the game on the PC, that really does hold me back from getting it. Besides as I said in my other post, NBA Live more or less satisfies my thirst to create my own virtual NBA experience, I enjoy playing it and I don't really have time to play two different titles. To be honest, I'm really not interested in playing the 2K series, mostly for those reasons.

I seriously think this website should be dedicated to both the games... I mean why should this website be biased towards Live? What direct connections does it have with Live and how would it harm it to also had detailed information on the 2k series instead of basically avoiding it?

Again, it comes down to the fact the people behind it are longtime NBA Live fans who prefer that series. As for the connections, it's always been an NBA Live website and one of the original founders is now a member of the NBA Live production team.

I don't have the same enthusiasm or like of the 2K series and seeing as though the NLSC is an unofficial fansite, that's essentially what's driving us to keep maintaining it.

Nope. It's an unofficial fansite for the NBA Live series. It always has been. That's where our enthusiasm lies, that's where our loyalty lies, that's the fanbase we're directed at.

I think the 2k series is years ahead as a simulation of NBA basketball. Number 1 they have real offensive plays and floor spacing. When I play against different teams there is a different offensive emphasis and defensive intensity. 2k games also destroy EA games in presentation...The TV style broadcast with halftime replays and end of the game interviews and analysis blows EA's picture of the player of the game out of the water.

I think Live leans arcade and 2k leans more to a true sim of the NBA. I would play 2k over Live every day of the week....it is a matter of how the game feels. This isn't a thing of newness either. When Live changed game engines after 2000 and 2k in 2002(or maybe it was earlier...the dreamcast versions). 2k's engine was just alot better. After the change again in 2004 by both companies I think they are closer but 2k looks like it has much more potential.

Next gen will be interesting battle between the two games

That's partially the point I'm trying to make, the other games just weren't good enough to even provide competition for Live but the 2K series is. It's a testament to the actual EA team that they've had some sort of monopoly on basketball video games for so long, but I really think they need to step up now... as much as I like the 2K games, I would be more than happy for EA to make a version of Live good enough to eliminate 2K as competition. I honestly don't think that'll even remotely be close to happening until 2K is released on PC.

Seriously, in 5 min quarters in 2k5, the level was on all star so that played a factor...regardless it was still UNBELIEVABLE....Anyways, I drained 120 with dirk in 5 min quarters and I had 20+ 3's made with above 50% shooting....
And with AI, I score 80 in 4 min quarters on all star as well, on 2k5....
Its fukn ridiculous! lolz Plus, 2K's gameplay is irking...The slow movements, the stiff figures...etc. It takes almost 2 sec for my tony parker to complete a full spin move on a drive...Also I dunked from the free throw line with CHRIS WEBBER while I was on the post up position....Its so BS

well i have NBA 2K5 and sliders can make the game better but they cant fix the passing flaws in the game and the lame animations like the reverse layups by big men. the game wasnt good. period

yeah. and dont say oh its because i'm not playing right. it happens regardless of if your doing risky passes or not lol.. but i think it hurts way more when your playin a human opponent because they can just jump when you pass and deflect it and cause mad turnovers

today playin my brother on all-star difficulty on NBA 2K5 with the Sacramento Kings. I hit 5 straight fadeaway 3's from way beyond the 3 point line with Mike Bibby. FIVE STRAIGHT. with a defender guarding me 3 of the 5.

how is that realistic? its insane to me how everybody says 2K is so real.. you can drain 3's ALL DAY with most shooters on that game. hows that realistic? and i'm not even going to start about how if you jump up to "block" a shot you can create steals with EASE on 2k5 .. if you dont know what i mean you probably havent played the game online or versus a friend.. when you jump you can basically deflect balls with amazing efficiency thats ridiculous...

1) All-Star difficulty is supposed to be easier, which is partially why you can hit some stupid shots with it if you don't change the sliders.

2) You hitting so many 3's is because of the sliders... nothing else, there's no way it's actually a game issue it's your slider settings mixed with the difficulty mode.

3) You're right about the deflecting thing but I don't really play it against other people much so it doesn't bother me as much.

Well you can play differently to avoid it but yeah I don't think we should have to play a certain style for this to not happen. That being said, it does rarely happen to me... I have my steal sliders all the way down and I don't throw stupid passes... you're right about the vs. human thing, if you're playing the CPU they don't go for as many passes but against another person they're always lunging and trying to intercept them. That is a flaw of the game, and something that has bothered me in the past.

The thing about hitting 3's so easily though is because of the fact that you're on all-star difficulty and you haven't changed the sliders for it. I mean I had my sliders at one stage to the point where I couldn't hit 3's with anyone.. from Reggie Miller to Kyle Korver none of them could hit 3's. I changed it a few points and it was fairly realistic. I play on Hall Of Fame difficulty (it's unlockable) and I get realistic scores and player stats... apart from turnovers which is an irritating glitch.

That being said, apparentely 2K6 has been completely re-done so we'll have to see how that one turns out.

It is slow, normal, fast. I don't like the game too much either. It doesn't have much excitement and the players look shiny dolls.

I have been saying "realism-wise" 2k series is always better than Live for years, finally people are starting to accept it.

The only reason that 2K is not popular is because they do not have a PC version, and there are so many basketball fans that don't own a console.
I have dozens of friends that play basketball games but no one want to play 2k because they have never try it before, they all stick to Live solely because that's the only baksetball game available to them.

Ya I hope they should make a PC version not that I want to play it on PC (my pc sucks) but I would like all the PC gamers to try the game throughoutly and make a fair judgement.

2k Pros:
-more Authentic game play than Live
-better cyberfaces for players
-better alley-oops and dunking feel. Dunks in 2k can really pump you up.


Cons:
-uneven body shape, shoulder looks bigger than rest of the body
-shooting animation is somewhat awkward
-Quick-play calling is complicated
-control is difficult (my hands get tired frequently because of pressing the buttons too hard)
-weak freestyle moves

2k3 is the best basketball game of all time until live 06 comes out.... ima big fan of the 2k series but 2k4 and 2k5 are horrible games....i know the ins and outs of 2k and have been a fan since day 1 but i buy whatever product is good and right now 2k is not doing the job nor have they made the necessary improvements yet...right now live is in the same position 2k was about 3 years ago...live is a great SIM game and is two steps ahead of the 2k series..2k is a great game but the tred to change it and ended up with the mess that is 2k4 and 2k5...it will take them a couple of years to be as good as live....live was horrible from 2001 to 2003...they were 0k in 2004...and in 2005 they relly stepped it up...im expecting biug things from 2006....as far as nba 2k6 they are making some good improvements and getting back on the right track bt it will take some time to perfect the game again

I previously had a Sega Dreamcast and as if I had a choice, I played NBA 2K2 on it to death and to tell you the truth it's the best basketball game I have played but it has changed a lot for the worse when I got my copy of 2K4 for the PS2. Live however improved from the sucky 2001 to 2005! Hopefully the 2006 version will end all doubts on which brand is the best basketball game today.

1. NBA 2K2 (soon to be NBA Live 2006 hopefully...)
2. a virtual tie between NBA Live 2000 and NBA Live 2005
