Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

I've been thinking about this for a while. How effective do you guys think this feature will be? I believe that in order for it to be effective, it must have different levels.
Let me explain.
If it doesn't have levels, it will be no different to player icons (remember those?). Jerry Stackhouse was just as effective as Kobe on offense. Mike Bibby was 5 times as good as Allen Iverson. Tmac (in 2003) was virtually unstopable (with a fucking shotblock rating! what the hell.)
However, if it does have different levels of each individual freestyle, then maybe this feature will be worth it. If Kobe and Stack are both labelled as freestyle scorers, but stack is on the 3rd best level, and kobe is say the 5th (with 5 being the highest) then maybe, just maybe, it will work.
But knowing live, it will be just icons revisted.
You look at madden, and they incorporate team ownership, player agents, development during the season based on statistics only (which is great! nothing is worse than averaging 30 ppg with a player and his fg rating goes up 1 point), and now DNA. Us NBA live fans get player icons with an improved name. Whoop-de-fucking do.

i dont think stack will have a scorer icon.

Then thats fucked. I'd love for created rookies in the dynasty draft to come in with freestyle attributes (only certain rookies.. for example, sean may would have the post attribute).
I have a feeling this is going to be useless.

Interesting point. Basically, instead of making superstars feel special, all you're doing is powering up everyone. (Making their point moot.) I have a bad feeling (afer seeing this post) that they'll eventually realize that this was the problem of nba live 06's system. (I can just see them saying "Last year, we tried to make superstars feel special...but we made everyone too powerful, so this time we are going to have various levels of superstars! This is going to revolutionize the game of basketball!!!") Then they'll put levels on the superstar thing. Then the lv. 5 dunker will be too powerful. Maybe then they'll make some sense and try to actually make an nba simulation game, not an nba arcade game. And the cycle continues...I just have a feeling...

Thats why I think they should have (effective) levels. Dejaun Wagner plays similar to iverson... so how are they going to do it? Is he now capable to play as effectively as Iverson? Or are there levels of how good the Freestyle goes?
I hope they thought this out.

I see where you're going with that Matthew. I agree that If a person is as productive as teh so called superstars, they should have the superstar freestyle even though they might not be the media whores.
But in the game and as long as ea is concerned, its probably just for the finesse players/showboaters.

sliders is for gameplay.

I'm guessing it will be effective in seperating some of the best players from the rest of the league, meaning players such as Stackhouse that have playing styles or abilities that are comparable with similar players who are considered much higher profile players - the superstars - will lose out.
That's preferable to everyone being able to perform the superstar moves but I agree, different levels of Freestyle Superstar would accomodate the good players as well as the great ones. I'd like to have some moves that any player could attempt, such a couple of flashy passes and whatnot, but most players would have very little success executing them.

i still say ea needs to stop wasteing time on crap like this and make the game play much better first. also work a shit load on the dynasty mode.

I totally agreed 10000%!!!!! what's the point of having superstar shitty hollymoves when the gameplay is messed up! If I still still the same blocking and steal engine in Live 06 I will never again buy Live again. I swear! they are supposed to test the game throughout before sealing the deal and how in the moffo hell they didn't react and do anything about the excessive amount of blocks and steals we see in live 04 and 05? That is fucking ridiculous specially coming from an multibillionarie company. I can't tolerate these freaking bugs. Ok they were in Live 04 but they didn't do shit to fix the goddam problem in 05 and i'll be sending a letter to EA if I still see the same shit on 06.
Yours sincerely

I thought we always progress with time and dedication and in my eyes Live 00 is still superior to Live 05 in some categories. I give you some examples:
-most legends are in L 00 including the all-time great MJ
-in-game saves (WHICH IS A MUST)
-gameplay is better than 05 in a way
-others

yea i agree, i never liked this super Freestyle Superstar. To me it seems like EA is just trying to make the game more flashy, for marketing reasons i suppose(you can just tell from the name "Freestyle Superstar") Same goes for the all star weekend. I swear, i've played the all star weekend less than 3 times. From some of the videos, it seems like they are trying to make LIVE, a bit, like a streetball type of game rather than the actual game. So far i haven't heard a lot about the dynasty mode. You usually get less than what you get for the actual game, so that works out to be..... almost nothing for the dynasty mode....

I think the producer mentioned now we have the ability to hire assistant coaches to train/improve players. But then again that might be only available in Season Mode and not Dynasty Mode. I hope they don't forget to include this feature in Dynasty Mode.

Even NHL's Dyansty mode is way better than NBA's.
I agree with the people who believe that the Freestyle Superstar thing is just gonna make the whole thing seem like NBA Street.
They are making this whole "superstar" thing when the superstar era in real basketball is coming to an end. There was a time when having the most dominant players in the game would mean a lot and make your team the best. Now all sucessful teams are based on more than just the players. Spurs, Pistons, Heat, Suns, Sonics, Mavs, Pacers all play team basketball while some teams featuring the some of the best players like Cavs, Lakers, Timberwolves, 76ers and Nets didn't make it too far. So contrary to what they believe, having a superstar doesn't give you a HUGE advantage.
Just give us a good game with depth in coaching, stats etc and make the game smarter.
Btw, I am new here and this is my first post so hey ppl!

From what I've read, they keep pushing the fact that freestyle superstar won't be able to be abused... which is great, or would be, if it wasn't the only real new feature to the game. I mean wtf, they've brought in this feature and now we find out we won't be able to use it half the time... and THIS is the big selling point of the game?
Nice to see they've stolen the camera angle from ESPN 2K5 though, I'm happy about that.

That is a fantastic point! Welcome to the boards
Jae.. I'm starting to seriously doubt if I'll buy this game. I don't see what justifies the purchase.
