more difficulty modes...PLEASE! LOL

Thu Jul 07, 2005 9:04 pm

hi guys, this is my first topic so bear with me.

am i the only one who thinks this game is too easy? i play it on superstar w/ all the sliders in favor of the cpu (cpu physical defense 100% etc. etc. etc.) but i can still beat the best team in the game w/ a horrible team like the bobcats by at least 15 pts. everytime out....this has been going on ever since i've been playing the live videogames.....

why not have like two more difficulty modes like legend and hall of fame?

what do you boys think?

Thu Jul 07, 2005 9:09 pm

what i hate about difficulty levels is that one is way too easy and the next is way too hard...eg in AFL Live 2004 i won a game by 340 points so i moved up a difficulty level and lost by 180

Thu Jul 07, 2005 9:25 pm

that's what the sliders are for...

Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:30 pm

Suppose it wouldn't hurt, though I can just imagine how much "cheating" the CPU would resort to at times on a Legend/Hall of Fame difficulty level. Sliders can achieve the same effect, to a certain extent.

hi threat, i think you missed this part of my message:

Lady Of Rage wrote:

i even put sliders like user off/def rebounding, steals, blocks, etc. all 15 or less while theirs is near the max and it's still too easy after about 4 months or so....

andrew might be right, there could be some real cheesy cheating w/ legend and hall of fame but at least the game would continue to be competitive.....that's a chance i'm willing to take because hey, the game cheats anyway no matter what difficulty level you use, isn't that "cpu catch up" the very definition of cheating?.....

I noticed, that when I pressure the computer every inbound, and try to get steals, no difficulty is hard enough. However, if I don't play cheap like that, the game is just fine. However, this is actually very lame, because how do I limit myself? What if I'm down by 10 in the 4th quarter, and I need to make a comeback? I could get back in the game by pressuring on inbounds, but is that cheating? This is why I hate when games force you to monitor yourself ('04 pro hop).

i think what he meant is tweak your sliders a little bit more......i'm betting the cpu doesn't have 100% in their mid range shooting or 3 point shooting yet

I think the current difficulty modes is good enough, it is not necessary to make any further difficulty modes. Otherwise CPU always win by 20+ points a game.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 2:26 pm

Neither of the difficulties are hard to me. I just mine at the highest at superstar and set my sliders to where it makes the game tougher to play.

I agree with you here Vlade. I can get pretty realistic difficulty levels..... if I try. I'm playing a Hawks dynasty in about my 7th year, and I get good results, but if I'm down, I know by having Josh Smith up and hassling the inbounds pass all the time, he can can a lot of steals and get us back in the game.

Inbounds passing should be smarter!

You gotta be kidding. I play it on all-star with the sliders tweaked a bit to tone down the cpu cheating and I still have a hard time beating most teams... with a team that's rated in the 90's. :D

How long did you play this game? I mean the game gets verry easy after like a month, so yeah i would like to see harder difficulty modes but without the cheating

Fri Jul 08, 2005 6:15 pm

Perhaps this is where NBA Live 06's "risk factor" with Freestyle Superstars will come into play. If you keep trying to pull the same cheesy moves, you won't be rewarded for it.

IMO, it's all about AI.

if EA still couldn't implement the AI well, the game would still be too easy. I don't think the slider is that useful. It let us adjust our own playing style and adjust a "fair" play for the gamer but it is not the way to adjust the difficulty.

If you configure all the sliders in favor of the cpu, the cpu will cheat you every single game. Even though you can still beat the cpu, it's not enjoyable...

if EA do the AI well, such as creating more set plays for different teams, switching strategy EFFECTIVELY, etc.

The game will be much much more challengeable.
This is what it's supposed to be.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 6:22 pm

True, the comeback code is designed to make the game more challenging. The problem is that it's sometimes too aggressive to the point of being unrealistic and sometimes a bit unfair.

Sat Jul 09, 2005 8:44 am

They don't need more difficulty modes, they just need to get the gameplay right. Sure, that's easier said than done, but EA has underachieved in this aspect for years.

And why not try to use a shit team , instead of your team full of all stars.

Its funny that u mention its too easy to master it after 4 months... most games these days can be mastered after 3 hours or so. So stop teh bitching. We don't need a game that cheats so much that they incorporate bouncing the ball off your foot.

I've been playing Live since 2000. Live 05.. I played it for a while after it came out and since then I've been playing it on and off. Not too often tho.

hi jowe, you should read more carefully:

*sigh* i make a post suggesting more difficulty levels and that's defined as "bitching?" do us all a favor and get out more, thanks.

This could get messy... anyways, ESPN 2K5 has an unlockable "Hall Of Fame" difficulty level which is great. I guess the only thing you can really do is tweak the sliders to an unrealistic level in favor of the teams you're playing against. Or reduce the ratings of all of your players by alot.

hi jae, i have 2k5 as well and never knew that! thanks! :D

Mon Jul 11, 2005 12:46 pm

I think that the game should have harder difficulties too

Wed Jul 13, 2005 9:11 am

I too think the game is a bit easy. High reward strategies like pressuring inbounds should also come with high risk. The CPU doesnt take advantage of the press at all.

The defensive AI is pretty good i think, but the CPU's offensive AI is pretty terrible and too predictable IMO. There is pretty much no pentration by the CPU's point guard in half court play. All assists seem to come from passing the ball around the peremiter and jacking up a shot in a catch-and-shoot scenario, rather than pentration (a drive-and-kick out or a shovel pass to a big man) by guards. This would probably make the game more competitive for NBA LIVE veterans.

P.S. Anybody got a copy of Live 2000?..... I really miss that game

Wed Jul 13, 2005 9:26 am

More than anything I just want the CPU to evolve to the point where it make realistic play calling defensively and offensively. I just want to play an intelligient CPU, atleast more so than what we have now which is why I long for Next Gen every 5-6 years. Graphics too but mainly A.I.

Wed Jul 13, 2005 8:42 pm

Well, it depends on how you play! I don't know how those who complain about the missing difficulty play but there are several ways. I try to play realistically, I set screen, I play sets, I don't make many lay-ups, I take mid-range shots.

I've played online a lot and many people just play a boring type of game...they just run and gun and every basket is a dunk or a layup. Of course they can win every game vs. the CPU when they just dunk and dunk and dunk. But it is boring! I don't try to score as many points as possible (which would result in the same move on every possession) but I want to have a realistic game with a realistic shot-selection and so on. When a player is near the basket and could dunk I don't dunk then but take a mid-range shot. As it never happens in real-life that a player can dunk that often.
