Pistons had 6 team fouls in that next-gen video??????

Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:08 am

I dont konw how to screenshot a .mov video, but u can have a good look at the scoreboard at about 00:30 into that video. One of those minor bugs they need to be aware of.

and btw, they put the Pistons on the big screen like they are the home team~

Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:16 am

Where...i didn't see anything...i just watched it

Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:18 am

at the bottom of the scoreboard, it shows "FLS 5........6 FLS".

Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:21 am

and I just found out there only 3 players on each team on the scoreboard.
gees EA that scoreboard is all screwed~

Thu Jun 30, 2005 10:30 am

oh ok...i see it

How is the team fouls display an error? Team fouls continue to count even when a team is in the penalty. They've gone into the penalty and then picked up another defensive foul (and thus another team foul) after that.

Oh i got confused...i was thinking of team fouls the same way as personal fouls...because when you get six your out of the game

Thu Jun 30, 2005 1:12 pm

Lol wtf? What did you think happened? When a team gets 6 fouls they get kicked off the court and the game ends?

not true, i assume u'v never been to an NBA game urself, or u never paid attention.

once your team fouls in the quarter are over the limit, the number stays at 5 until the end of the quarter, but personal fouls keep counting.

in the situation u described, the team foul stayed 5, and whoever commited the foul had his personal foul number +1.

no i'm not confused,
tell me, what is team foul, what is personal foul, and what are the limits for each, and what will happen when they are over the limits?

When players are assessed a defensive foul, it also counts for a team foul. When a player reaches a total of six fouls in the NBA, he "fouls out" and must leave the game. When a team reaches a total of five team fouls in a quarter, any defensive foul they commit will result in the other team shooting free throws even if they were not in the act of shooting when the foul was committed.

The scoreboard will continue to show the total number of team fouls after the fifth has been committed. Most television broadcasts however will refer to a team being in the penalty rather than mentioning it's the sixth, seventh, eighth team foul and so on.

Please don't result to petty insults to argue a point. While I haven't been to an NBA game as I live in Australia, I've been involved in basketball for a long time as both a player and fan/spectator. I've seen the scoreboard, I'm familiar with the procedure, please don't tell me that I never pay attention.

have u been to an NBA game and paid attention to such thing?
tv broadcasts dont show team foul numbers most of times, the only chance u really see this number displaying is in an NBA arena.
and in situations like even u only had let's say 2 TFs, the first team foul u commited in the last 2mins of the quarter will be shown as 4th, and the second one will be 5 which means over the limit. because the limit is 2 in the last 2mins.

Please cut out this "paying attention" thing. As I said, no, but I've observed it before on television.

then I must say Australians dont do it the same way NBA does.
we are talkin about an NBA game arent we?

sorry about that thing, didnt mean no offense
but I ensure you 100% that 6 team foul is an error~[/quote]

Yes we are talking about the NBA so I must say, you're not paying much attention to my posts. I'm talking about watching the NBA on television and what I've observed.

right, we are talking about an NBA arena scoreboard arent we?
and even on television the proper way to describe any team foul over 5 is "in penalty situation" or "over the limit", not "6 or 7 team fouls"

Thu Jun 30, 2005 4:44 pm

who cares about this little thing?! (N)

Thu Jun 30, 2005 4:51 pm

well, as long as it's not affecting the gaming system like making ur opponents' TF limit to 6 or such(a good chance for CPU to cheat like always), it's no biggy~

Yes, which is why I said "I'm talking about watching the NBA on television and what I've observed".

yeman wrote:and even on television the proper way to describe any team foul over 5 is "in penalty situation" or "over the limit", not "6 or 7 team fouls"

Which is why I said "Most television broadcasts however will refer to a team being in the penalty rather than mentioning it's the sixth, seventh, eighth team foul and so on". But teams will continue to register fouls beyond the fifth.

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree, I'm sure that it's not an error. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I'm sure I've seen more than five team fouls represented on the scoreboard during an NBA broadcast.

In the grand scheme of things it's not really an issue, I probably wouldn't ever notice it. There is however a problem in the simulation engine when it comes to Simulation Intervention; sometimes players will be playable with six fouls (as the stats are generated), fouling out on their seventh.

I think he's probably used to dealing with "little things".

Anyways I don't care, being an Aussie who's never been to an NBA game it's something I couldn't have possibly ever noticed.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 6:16 pm

ive been to every perth wildcats (nbl) home game for the last four years, and not once has the scoreboard display gone past 5.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 7:21 pm

For the sakes of arguing (), in Sweden whenever a team get's more fouls, we just have over the limit.

On the logical side though, a scoreboard is programmed to show a certain thing (points, team name, no. of fouls and so on), and that is run by a person at the sideline. Now he just pushes a button whenever a team foul is made no matter how many team fouls there was before that, and another one is added on the scoreboard. My guess is that the scoreboard is programmed to handle numbers from 0 to 9, thus keeps on counting until it reaches 9, rather than 6. That's my guess anyway...

Thu Jun 30, 2005 8:20 pm

I've operated scoreboards in state league games and it always goes over 5, but whatever. It's a tiny issue.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 8:50 pm

What the hell? You guys definetely have too much time on your hands if you start to argue/care about such a stupid detail which will get fixed soon enough anyway. :|
