What exactly do you think the 6 superstar "functions&qu

Thu Jun 23, 2005 12:46 pm

Well we know 2 out of the 6
1. Passing
2. Dunking

I'm guessing...looking at the movies
3. Dribbling (it seems LeBron and major guards?)
4. Defensive (I'm wondering if there will be just 1 defensive super star function or various...Ben Wallace and Ron Artest I guess will be the ones who have this.)
5. Shooting? (Peja and those pure shooters)
6. Rebounding? (Ben Wallace and KG)

I think there is a dribbling one since they show LeBron going through defenders...As for the others, I have no clue. Any ideas?

My guess is the six will be:

1. Playmaker
2. Power Player
3. Slasher
4. Pure Shooter
5. Perimeter Defender
6. Interior Defender

Though not necessarily with those names. If implemented correctly, I'd assume that those six categories define players who can be stopped or in the case of the defensive categories, beaten, but they will be noticeably tougher than the rest of the players.

I read somewhere, i think IGN or somethin. They had 2 or 3 of the six Superstar status's or whatever they are called - Play Maker, Power Player and Defensive Stopper(cant remember exactly what this was called).

I think the other ones might be:
-a speed one for Iverson/Parker/Boykins etc.
-a showtime one(or something) for all the dunkers and flashy players.
-and obviously a shooting one.

Thu Jun 23, 2005 3:26 pm

That does sound quite likely, though I have a feeling they'll be at least two defensive "superstar styles".

Thu Jun 23, 2005 3:34 pm

MY Surmise are:

1) POWER PLAYER
2) PLAYMAKER
3) DEFENSIVE STOPPER
4) POWER REBOUNDER
5) SHARP SHOOTER
6) DUNKER

This mode will really be a big factor for the GAMEPLAY of LIVE 06! (Y)

Thu Jun 23, 2005 3:40 pm

Indeed it will, which is why I hope it isn't too powerful. Implemented correctly - ie superstar players behave realistically, are more difficult to stop and have distinct playing styles, but aren't unstoppable or unbeatable in the case of the defensive stars - it's a huge improvement to the gameplay.

Thu Jun 23, 2005 4:03 pm

What I'm worried about are slashers being unstoppable when they drive or shooters going for 80%.

Thu Jun 23, 2005 4:13 pm

So am I, but Freestyle Air wasn't all-powerful as we feared last year so I for one will be waiting until I play the game myself until I make any decisions about Freestyle Superstars.

Thu Jun 23, 2005 7:34 pm

Haven't read all the long previews about the FS feature but will this thing remove the Four Player Skills (Dunker, Tight-Defender, 3-Pointer, and Shot Blocker)

Fri Jun 24, 2005 2:23 am

this feature has me somewhat worried...it stinks of abuse but hopefully it will be well implemented

Fri Jun 24, 2005 2:42 am

This does remind me of the first time freestyle was implemented. Basically style over substance. I have a feeling we'll do windmill dunks every single time...(or whatever your favorite dunk is anyhow) The reason why I think freestyle superstar will be too strong is because EA Sports will want people to try it. And to make people try it, the success rate of the Freestyle Superstar must be quite high. Who will want to do outrageous moves if you get stolen or the ball just goes somewhere else? Freestyle Air wasn't too much of a big deal gameplay wise, but this is. This is changing the basic framework of NBA Live...Well I hope they balance it, but currently I have a bad feeling it will be abused like Freestyle03.

same here

Fri Jun 24, 2005 7:50 am

Personally i think there is going to be some kind of stealers.......like A.I etc

Playmakers
Slashers
Shooters
Power Players
Big Blockers
Pick Pocketers

Fri Jun 24, 2005 8:22 am

Will some players get more than one category? Kidd as a defensive player and passer?

Fri Jun 24, 2005 9:34 am

Playmaker
Power player
Whiner
Undersized/overweight PF (preferably in a Knicks jersey)
Overhyped
Bust

8-)

I'm not sure about that, but it would make sense as the best players are generally great at both ends of the court. That's why I'm thinking there might be 3 offensive and 3 defensive Freestyle Superstar categories.

Whiner (Vince Carter)
L+A (Ankle injury fake)
L+B (Knee injury fake)
L+X (Roll around madly as if you had a huge injury)
L+Y (Faint)

Undersized/Overweight PF
L+A (Look at Ball)
L+B (Stop and stare)
L+X (Run away from the ball in defense)
L+Y (Sleep)

Overhyped (Darko?)
L+A (Dunk Miss: attempts a dunk but misses it)
L+B (Miserable Crossover: Will attempt a crossover, but falls on his ass.)
L+X (Mental Breakdown: will look at the ground, pondering about his failures)
L+Y (Wide Open Shot Miss: 100% chance of missing a wide open shot, no matter how open you are!)

Bust (Darko?)
L+A (Fetch Gatorade: Be sure to mash the A button while holding the L button. If you don't give the Gatorade in time, Ben Wallace will devour you like a little bug.)
L+B (Towel Waving: If done at the right moment, it boosts team morale. If done at the wrong moment, Ben Wallace will devour you. If done way too much, Rasheed Wallace will smoke you. If the towel waving is way too intense, you will get a technical from the ref...and Rasheed Wallace will smoke you.)
L+X (Talk to an actual NBA player to get some air time: If you're on the bench and you happen to be sitting next to someone who can play, then you can maybe appear on TV. If you annoy that player, his performance might decline or he might ask his GM to do something.)
L+Y (Annoy Coach about Playing Time: To succeed, it requires perfect timing and excellent button mashing. If you do it well, your coach might give you some quality minutes...in GARBAGE TIME!)

Fri Jun 24, 2005 8:21 pm

I hope they'll include some crunch time players (you know, these guys called Horry or Miller  ).
Maybe there ratings could increase everytime in the 4th so you'll know in whose hands you wanna see the ball when the game's close.

Fri Jun 24, 2005 11:54 pm

Franchise players, better known as superstars, should have multiple because they do more to help their teams win other than score. Stars, should be a bit more limited to one, perhaps two because they generally only score and if they can't score they generally do nothing else to help the team, i.e. Rebound, Play Defense, etc.

With Carter, they're probably real injuries.

 Mark Madsen.

Well...about Carter's injuries being fake or real...You can say he sure didn't have that many injuries in New Jersey...hm..Probably the injuries were real...but kind of overstated. Not sure...Only Carter knows for sure.. (He is either laughing that people did not see his plan or he is...laughing because in the end fate did lead him out of Toronto as he wanted.)
