Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

Would you stop doing that, don't people read the rules anymore?
The rules state:
Avoid making one and two word posts as much as possible.
Try to avoid making one or two word posts in discussions.
Shit, they mention it twice, once in the non long version and one in the rules explained version.

Also, they CAN'T PUT MJ IN THE GAME. He signed something that tells EA to not put him in Live.

I've mentioned signature moves for stars before although I may have been on the EAsports boards. I've been screaming this along with other things for years now and I have noticed alot of my wishes being implemented. I remember sending them a letter about the clutch rating system and they implemtented it two years later. I do think they listen, except when you tell them about custom soundtracks.

Wow, I never would have guessed so few people would embrace Freestyle Superstars. Personally, I think it's everything the game was missing. I too am a little worried about the "unstoppable" factor, but I think what they ment is that on a break away, if a big guy is running the lane, he is not going to be stopped. Which is real, a few years ago when Shaq used to run more, nothing could get in his way. Same thing goes for Amare.
I seriously doubt EA would be stupid enough to make the game so that if you're just standing still anywhere near the hoop with Shaq or Amare you get 100% free slams. They do test the game, don't they? Hopefully EA learned it's unstoppable slam lesson in Live '03.

Remember when the pro hop came in and it was really easy to abuse: Just run at the defender, press pro hop then dunk? I also remember reading an article before Live 05 came out with one of the programmers who said when they introduce a new concept, they make it easy to use so that people get used to it and the next year they adjust it to be more realistic. I can see this happening with the Freestyle Superstars concept.
Also, do we have some kind of current list as exactly who will have these abilities? I assume that Nash, Shaq, Amere will. Who else?
Fri Jun 17, 2005 9:54 am
I really like what i see. So this means i am gonna buy the game for once, not getting it from illegal places.

EDIT: No, I do not agree.

EDIT: Actually Jordan is not a member of the NBA Retired Players Association which means the NBA has no legal rights to his likeness - as has been discussed
AD NAUSEUM on every NBA Live site for the last year and a half.
Better?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. The real NBA has a few "WOW" moments per game that I feel '05 may have been missing. As far as unstopable, well with dunks anyway, remember you can adjust your 'in-air collision' frequency - and anyway, form the vids so far the collision detection looks very very good.
Mick wrote:Remember when the pro hop came in and it was really easy to abuse.
And of course the run'n'gun freestyle in '03. What people forget is that 'freestyle-air' was implemented in '05 and was not abusive as a gameplay element at all.

And another thing, is there no improvements on the all star competitions.
What about the dunk contest and three point contenst, any additions?
Fri Jun 17, 2005 12:11 pm
Who cares about the All-Star competition? I'm glad they are putting focus on the actual gameplay, this looks like it could be a great new feature.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 12:12 pm
I understand the Dynasty mode and the gameplay should be the primary focus but the allstar is a nice break from the ordinary games of a season.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 2:08 pm
What major changes would you make to the All-Star modes? Possibly a little more flexibility in the rules of the dunk contest and official Rookie Challenge rules/format, the skills challenge needs time to develop that's better spent elsewhere and we can probably do without the Shooting Stars contest.

i seriously dont understand why people think that freestyle superstar is gonna be abuse..many people are saying that using pro hop is abused.but it all depends on the user itself.if the user love to use pro hop.and he almost pro hop during every possesion..then he shouldnt complain.but if the user is like me,someone who doesnt uses pro hop too often..but instead frequently use the spin(or is it call jab step or something..its like when u hold the ball with 2 hand and without pressing any buttons,u press the pro hop button and it does a spin or fake spin to the otherside)...what is there to be complain?it doesnt even bothers me?..and most importantly..sliders..i've tweak the effectiveness of pro hop till a certain level which i think that it is realistic, just like the ones in the nba

They're not signature moves though, it's just extra abilities for certain players who are rated fairly highly. Highly rated point guards can throw flashy passes, powerful big men can throw down big dunks etc.

i hope this game isnt live 2003 all over again wit the insane scoring and offense
they need to make the defense just as strong
im waiting to see how the freestyle defense works
Fri Jun 17, 2005 7:35 pm
Last year many of you were thinking, that tip in will be very powerful thing. But it wasn't..
Fri Jun 17, 2005 8:26 pm
I don't think anyone really paid attention to the tip in since it's virtually been in every other Live I can think of, just not as publicised and enhanced.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 9:22 pm
my issue with this is that they need to fix the passing from 05, period. 80% of them were stupid lob passes that get intercepted, so they need to worry about that before worrying about behind the head passes and stuff like that.
Sat Jun 18, 2005 12:28 am
you know there will be defensive "stoppers" in 06 as well, right? so if you have ben wallace guarding tim duncan, chances are that wallace will be able to reject duncans offensive "freestyle" effectiveness. if duncan is playing against danny fortson... then yes duncan will dominate the game, but thats completely reasonable and realistic
there are also the risk/reward side to this freestyle concept. hopefully the risks are great, not minor. in one review they said that there will be risks... but not how many or how big of an impact these risks will have. im gonna hope that these risks are realistic, so that maybe only 40% of the time these amazing freestyle flashy plays work. id much rather pull off a move and be like "holy shit!" ... rather then
expecting to execute this insane move... so that wen it gets completed, im not even excited. if its too easy to abuse then the whole point of bringing in this concept is diminished
also i wish for the dunk contest they would allow us to use props... like jump over k-mart with josh smith
Sat Jun 18, 2005 8:58 am
I hope so. I mean I dont want a whole game full of windmills and Power dunks.

Furthermore, I think the whole risk/reward system will also penalise players from simply performing the same moves over and over again by having the CPU players wise up to the cheap strategy. As long as the CPU team is similarly restrained, I think the system could work out quite nicely.

hmm.... I'm kinda expecting ,also, something to do with Technicals for hanging on the rim too much, and landing badly to get an injury of some sort maybe?
Sat Jun 18, 2005 2:01 pm
Perhaps, though I'm not counting on that just yet.

Wade caught Grant Hill in a crossover, looked like a deer caught in the headlights, owned!

Like alot of you, I have concerns with this feature being 'abused', but then again, how does ths feature change anything? How I hope this will be implemented is, when say, using Amare, instead of just pressing the dunk/layup button, you can choose the style of shot attempt you make, not increasing your chance of scoring, but increasing your chances of doing the type of shot/dunk you want. Make sense?
Also, something I am really hoping for is that it's not the same 8 animations for the buttons. So say, the two foot, two hand dunk button has several, similar dunk animations linked to it, not the same one, so it doesn't get too repetitive? Doing the above, as well as counter defensive moves would justify the implimentation of 'freestlye superstars'.............. for me anyway.
