It's way too much, way too complicated to do from a programmers point of view.

I am in full support of more and diverse attribute ratings. As far as being to hard to program...look at all the different attributes ESPN 2k5 football has, from leadership to aggresiveness besides all the basics of speed agility etc...

Also NBA Inside Drive 2004 had some of the basic tendency sliders that were mentioned. THis creates a much more interesting game because no longer would Charlie Ward light me up for 40 points because his shooting and dribble drive tendencies would be set far lower. NBA Inside Drive was a great game if it only had decent roster editing and had some defense implementations.

They need to add medium and they need to add more charateristics like reach. They might want to add hustle and heart. We don't need too many ratings. It will get excessive.

We might want to add profiles or tendacies like for guys who play off screens. You know that tell you how they play.

Wed Jun 15, 2005 4:39 pm

it would be good if in player's profile, they could have the player's career stat average instead of having just the current season or last playoff.

Thu Jun 16, 2005 9:38 am

i would like that but i would like it to be split into 2. first have career stats and have it continue from now and on through the dynasty. the second part i want is carrer stats based on when you started the dynasty. for this one everyone starts with 0.0 across the board and you can see how everyone did during your dynasty. i think this would be fun to compare with other people, or maybe i am just crazy.

Maybe they could just change the name to "ratings average" or something like that. People get all worked up about the overall rating and have big kobe vs tmac type arguements, which are redundant. I remember when the '05 ratings got released and everyone was up in arms Coz TD was below a few other good players... the way the ratings work though it made perfect sense.

I think they should add a third position to the player information. Some very versatile and athletic players are able to play up to 3 or maybe 4 positions. Players like Kobe Bryant who can play the 2, 3 and 4 position easily. Other names that comes to mind are Lamar Odom, Lebron James, etc etc.

I say this because in Live 2005 LBJ is always being played as a SG even though that's his secondary position.

They should also add triple double and double double to the Stats!

Yea I agree, people seem to think the ratings mut reflect real life, but that's not true based on how the ratings are weighted. Being able to jump really high is rated basically the same as being a sharp shooter, but being a sharp shooter would obviously benefit a team more, and is a more useful basketball skill.

With how the ratings are done, it's just based on overall ability...

well yeah kinda think they should add ratings but heres wut i think they should in my opion

global sliders:

tampo of the speed
free throw level
injuries
fatigue
fouls should all be as 1 i think

users & CPU's Sliders:

shooting ability
freestyle eff.
sub. pattern so that superstrs get more mins unless in foul trouble
rebounding level
clutch shooting level
superstar level potential
inside scoring
dunk vs block so that if a defender can block that person dunk or affect it he can challenge it
CPU's knowledge based on how the cpu plays an helps out
an some kindaslider for the past of the game like runing up the clock a little cuz the cpu in 2005 would just come down the court and shoot in like
take off 2 or 3 secs an just shoot an would usually make it so it hink they should add a slider for that.

They should have a composure rating. If one team is on an 8-0 run the player with good composure (ie: Jason Kidd) could slow the game down easier and have a feeling of control on the gam e at all times, somone like Chucky Atkins would be less composed at a time like that and hed let the other team run all over them.

Do you know how many ratings Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution Soccer has? There are probably more than the amount fgrep15 has written. To say that those are way too many ratings is non-sense. If Winning Eleven can incorporate all thsoe ratings so well, there is no reason why NBA Live can't incorporate all those ratings.

Fri Jun 17, 2005 2:56 am

They can, but would you sit down and fix them all?

Fri Jun 17, 2005 4:40 am

i would :D

Fri Jun 17, 2005 6:42 am

I'd just wait for Pared to do it.

Fri Jun 17, 2005 12:32 pm

I would do it too, just do the important players first, then slowly do everyone...

Sat Jun 18, 2005 3:49 pm

I like this idea. This will probably go along with this freestyle superstar thing.

Sat Jun 18, 2005 4:27 pm

all i hope is that live 06 would have a higher rating than 05, because most of the players are 60's or 70's, but only a few players are 80 or even less 90. i want more players to be rated 70 and 80.

Sat Jun 18, 2005 7:16 pm

Hey, adding ratings is all good, but the fact is that adding all those ratings into the game would be quite hard and it would add alot of code and options and would make the game more cumbersome...

All these things could be combined into one rating, the ones fgrep said. And it would be pretty good...

What I'm all about (this time) is that the players should have some sort of a "star rating" or "hustle rating" or something of the sort and it would modify the percentages of shots falling when you take shots that aren't regular jumpers or lay-ups and dunks...

For example: Let's say that Fred Hoiberg and Tracy McGrady have the same rating for field goals (as they are both very good at shooting) and they go for the regular jumper, the percentages would be the same... As I said both are good shooters... But TMac has a lot more hustle than Hoiberg, and this hustle rating would kick in when they both go for the contested fade-away-jumpers... Thus TMac would make more tougher shots than Hoiberg... But open shots would be pretty much the same...

But fgrep is right on something... They do need to make a difference between the harder shots for different players... Too many mid-level guards score too many tough shots because they have good shooting ratings. Guys like Fisher, Ward etc.

But a star rating would cover this so that it would really matter in the game who takes those fade away jumpers or tough shots against two defenders.

Great players can create good shots for themselves, but more average players need you to create open shots for them to score.

Above all, ratings should work as intended. For example, if a player has a low blocking rating, he shouldn't be getting too many blocks - simple as that. If he's tall but happens to have a low blocking rating, he should commit more fouls or just bother the shooter rather than blocking a lot of shots, even against a shorter opponent...or with really poor ratings, have less effect against talented offensive players.

They need to make height, quickness, arm length, and jumping matter when shooting and blocking shots.

That's how you stop Derek Fisher from scoring 40 points. If he has average quickness, normal arms and doesn't jump when he shoots, it'll be hard for him to get an uncontested look.

On the other hand, guys like McGrady jump so high when they shoot that they can get off pretty much any shot they want. And because of that, you have to play up on them and open space for them to drive.

If those things don't matter, the game's realism will be seriously flawed.

It wouldn't even be that difficult to implement. Put in four or five different shot styles. You'd need a set shot, a jumping shot, and a "high release" for post players like Rasheed Wallace. You can make the timing pretty much the same, so that you wouldn't have to learn a new time-and-release for differnt players.

And add a way to control arm length. You can even use short, medium, and long. That makes a huge difference.

^
They don't have arm length in the game. I was saying before that they need to add wingspan. I hate playing with Elton Brand who is 6'8 but has a 7'6 wingspan [same as Yao], but have him get blocked by some 6'10 unathletic guy because he's 6'8

new rating ya of course!!!!

Hey, being me I'm sick of playin basketball games where a scrub players scores 40+ points everytime I play him. I think they need a groove or momentum system for each player. But, if not that then they should have it based on % instead of a scale of 1-100. For example, instead of have Shaq field goal being 99 it should just be 55%. And as for jumpin they need to make that based on vertical inches now. LeBron would probably have a good 45-48'' vertical and Kobe having a 40'' makin it possible for him to get postered by LeBron. But about the groove or momentum, they should have a shoot around at the being of the game to help the player get loose (upon player choice). Cuz, how would you stop a player with a field goal at 99 and clutch at 99. We all know if the Lakers are down by 2 or 3 they are going to Kobe so common sense says double Kobe at least. But, if that's not good they should have players based on they skill of play and years of experince. Meaning players like Kobe, KG, Shaq ect..would have a style of play at Hall of Fame, since they been in the game over 8 years. And LeBron, Wade, Carmelo..ect..would have just Superstar. Then as for a created player he would start out as a Rookie meanin he'll have to work his way up based on game performance. If he happens to do a 20-5-5 as rookie numbers next season he'll have a Coming of Age skill level....you feel me. But hit me back up if you don't understand and I'll break each part down for ya'.

Wat about a rating that can pump them up each time they make a good shot or make a huge dunk, if their 'pump' rating gets high enough, they go on fire or something

Thu Jun 30, 2005 12:56 am

They should have Clutch, and Leadership.... because you need the both of those at the end of a game. (Y)
