The patch can't be downloaded and installed as previous patches were. You must use the in-game patching system. This is the way I installed the patch (don't use the shortcut in the NBA Live 2003 Programs Menu folder).

  • Go to the official NBA Live 2003 site, and click on Downloads.
  • Select the official update. You will be taken to a different Check for Update page.
  • Click the Check for Update button. It should detect that a patch is available. The button should change to Install Patch. Click the button again.
  • Wait until you are presented with a dialog box asking to install an ActiveX component. Choose to install this component.
  • You will need to leave your PC to its own devices for a while. Your browser will appear to be doing nothing, however, the patch is installing.
  • When installation is complete, the button will change to a Patch Installed message with two thumbs up.

No you can't even update that way I been trying the last 2 days. i had to reinstall and iv tried to update but everytime I get error on page some trouble with the java script. i don't EA really cares to fix it its been that way for a while.

I see. I installed the update some time ago, so I wasn't aware of the recent errors. My mistake.

I downloaded the patch successfully several weeks ago (or so I thought), but the problem with games ending too soon if you pause during a quarter break still exists. So my question is, did I even actually download the patch or does the patch not fix this?
I think ea should just have a regular patch file that you can download; this auto-update thing is just too flakey...it's never seemed to work correctly. They should at least have a patch file to manually download as a back-up.

Agreed, an .exe patch file as they used to have would be more convenient, and is easily backed up on CD in case you need to re-install the game (and therefore the patch). And as you said, much easier to install than the current system.

I've never had the skipping quarter bug (perhaps I'm one of the lucky ones) so I can't really comment on whether the patch is effective in fixing that problem. I've read other posts from users who are still experiencing problems with controllers and skipping quarters even after installation, so it's likely there's a problem somewhere with the patch, as it works for some but not others.

i just had the patch installed today, it would not work for me before either but it went through this time.

you've probably tried this already, but the only thing i remember doing differently from all the other tries was going into the temp. internet files folder and deleting all the cookies and everything else. i don't know if that did it.
