SCHOOL'S OUT FOREVER!!!

It's that time of year folks, when money talks and talent college prospects walk However, as with the high school and Euro prospects, the trend has moved towards collegiate players staying in college for a little bit longer, with a few even returning for their senior seasons to earn a degree and try to make that Final Four that has been eluding them.

WHO'S IN?

Andrew Bogut, Soph (Utah)

This star from Down Under could not deny the lure of the NBA any longer. Bogut will bring his unique skills for a bigman to the NBA. He has big-time game yet he has not been tested against much quality college opposition. Bogut is a top 3 pick who many project will go with the number 1 pick.

Image
Can Bogut go from the main man on campus for the Utes to a successful career in the NBA?!? Only time will tell

Marvin Williams, Fr (North Carolina)

Every Tarheel fan across the globe let out a collective groan as freshman star Marvin Williams declared for the 2006 Draft. Williams seems destined for stardom and is a lock Top 3 pick in the draft.

Image
It's all going to plan for Marvin as he made a successful one-year stopover in Chapel Hill

Chris Taft, Soph (Pittsburgh)

After a disappointing sophomore campaign, Chris Taft decided college just wasn't for him as he put his name in the draft. Taft has undeniable talent, but can he put it together and become the player many think he can. At the start of the collegiate season, Taft was a Top 3 pick. Taft has slid a little bit to around the 5-8 range but could make the teams that pass on him pay.

Image
Even when throwing down a nasty dunk, Taft looks like he wants to be somewhere else

Charlie Villanueva, Soph (Connecticut)

He wanted to leave straight out of high school, so it should be a surprise to no one that he's declared this season. Villanueva has often been labeled inconsistent, but he started to shown this past season that he can be a consistent threat. If he continues to work on his game, he could develop into a solid pro.

Image
He might not be winning any beauty contests anytime soon, but I'm sure the multi-million dollar contract will help make up for it

Antoine Wright, Jr (Texas A&M)

Image
I can't remember the last 1st Round draft pick out of Texas A&M, can you?!? Has there even been one?!? If not, there is now

Kennedy Winston, Jr (Alabama)

Image
That dunk looks very familiar to a former Crimson Tide alum. Let's hope Kennedy knows not to strangle his coach

Francisco Garcia, Jr (Louisville)

Image
If Rick Pitino says "jump", then you jump. If Rick Pitino says "go pro", then you go pro. And who said you learn to think for yourself at college?!?

WHO'S OUT?

Chris Paul, Soph (Wake Forest)

Paul had already said he was returning to college for his junior season. We didn't believe him until the Demon Deacons will knocked out of the NCAA Tourney in the 2nd Round. When he does declare, Paul will be a Top 3 pick.

Image
Don't stay away too long, the NBA wants your soul

Daniel Gibson, Fr (Texas)

Gibson is a year or two away from being a high lottery selection. He made the right decision to stay in school. Gibson has a bright future ahead of him.

Image
Get use to this kid, because you will soon be seeing a lot more of him

Raymond Felton, Jr (North Carolina)

It looks like all the NLSC PG entries has scared off Raymond Felton. Should he have bit the bullet and declared anyway?!? Or will he just be hurting his stock by finishing his 4th year at UNC?!? I've got a feeling that everybody loves raymond, so he'll be fine.

Image
Provided he continues his strong play, Felton is a lock lottery pick next season

Rashad McCants, Jr (North Carolina)

Felton's backcourt running mate, Rashad McCants, also elected to return for his senior season. This smooth, high scoring guard should excel at the next level.

Image
Will McCants have to make the transition from college SG to NBA PG like Arenas did before him?!?

Josh Boone, Soph (Connecticut)

Image
Boone could have gone in lottery this season, however he is no rush as the NBA will be their next year

Shelden Williams, Jr (Duke)

Image
Did you really expect a Dukie to leave early?!? I didn't think so

Adam Morrison, Soph (Gonzaga)

Image
Hey Adam, you're not wearing your striped socks!!! What's going on?!?

Jarrett Jack, Jr (Georgia Tech)

Image
Plenty of time to workout for this Yellow Jacket's star PG

John Gilchrist, Jr (Maryland)

Image
Gilchrist made the right decision in returning to the Terps, as there were just too many better PG's in this draft than him

Ike Diogu, Jr (Arizona State)

Image
This bruiser would make any team happy they drafted him. Nothing soft about Ike. He's no Ike Austin, that's for sure

Guillermo Diaz, Soph (Miami [Fl])

Image
Diaz could definitely use another year in sunny Florida to help move him closer to being a lottery selection

Scouting reports for Europe and the 4 US regions to come in next couple of days

Sun Mar 27, 2005 12:33 pm

Awesome X! lol... nice to hear ur school went crap after u left ages ago. I dunno, but tis sorta same with my school , when i was in grade 8 the senior team was awesome.. then our two best players; co-captains satrted doing dope, got expelled... the team has been crap since then lol

But this year we're really thinking we got a chance to win. Senior Year and all, we're all hoping we will come first. After all, our team won it in our age group and we're essentially playing the same teams and players as last year. We got a chance!

And btw... can u give me my beloved '8'???

Sun Mar 27, 2005 5:19 pm

WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR

Sam Anurak (ILLuzionz)

Thai born guard Sam Anurak was unsuccessful in his bid to enter the 2006 Draft as a high school junior, so he will be forced to wait another season before he can take a shot at making the grade in the NBA. This Ohio-based SG has an NBA-ready body (6'5", 232lbs) and is not only a great athlete, but can shoot the rock too. I think it's a blessing in disguise for Anurak as if he had of been allowed to enter in the 2006 draft, he was a late 1st Round pick, at best, and could have possibly slid into the 2nd Round. With another year of seasoning, Anurak should figure to push for a lottery selection in the 2007 draft.

Image
Don't be under any illusion, this kid will be a factor come 2007

nice scouting you have there for me....
i like the comparison coz i like Manu.

Sun Mar 27, 2005 11:50 pm

hm, i like the idea of taking into account how old players are. its nice for me cause i'm a hs senior, so timing is just right to make the jump... though pacific northeast... very interesting. though i would like to visit seattle and vancouver if i get a change to go there. :P

oh whoa, the paul watson thing is interesting, never noticed it until i read it again. though i thought there was a cutoff age. still, amazing
and the everybody loves raymond... nice (Y)

you're a lefty like Manu and it just seemed to fit for some reason....glad you liked the comparison....haven't had one complaint yet about player comparisons....but we'll see if that changes as the scouting reports continue :P

you're not in the Northeast?!? The profile you sent me said Northeast :? I'm figuring that the Pacific Northeast covers from Seattle down to LA/San Francisco then out to Minnesota and up to Dakota.....like that quarter of US....

as for the age thing, iLLuzionz was late in getting me his cyberface so I couldn't get him into the draft, but thought I'd incorporate the age thing....and by keeping some of the high schoolers and underclassmen out of draft, it allows me to bring them in later drafts with improved ratings (as they will be more seasoned and ready to contribute  )

I'll take a break from scouting to update you on breaking Bobcats' news....

BOBCATS UPDATE

Late in the third quarter in the Bobcats' most recent loss at Minnesota, rookie guard Andrew Watson went up for a contested layup and came away from the encounter clutching his right wrist. In his obvious pain, Watson left the game and went straight to the team's locker room and did not return for the remainder of the game.

Image

Bobcats' team medical staff came back with the following report:
Image
Image

Whilst Watson is not expected to miss any time, Bobcats' personnel insist since the team is now out of playoff contention, that there is no need to risk further injury. Coach Bickerstaff has therefore moved Kyle Korver back into the starting lineup at SG to replace Watson. Watson will not be put on the IR, but is expected to play a minimal role until his wrist is fully recovered.

In an ironic twist to this tale, it is reported that Watson first suffered an injury to his right wrist back in his senior year at high school. Apparently he never let the injury fully heal and played through the discomfort, which adversely affected his shooting %'s that season. Let's hope that this is not a sign of things to come for Watson.

^^ superb work 8-)

it looks like it's gonna be a strong PG draft in '07 with Chris Paul, Raymond Felton, Jarrett Jack, John Gilchrist, Roko-Leni Ukic and ILLuzionz to name a few....

if anyway else has some creative ideas or stuff for my dynasty, please feel free to suggest or post (Y)

SCOUTING REPORT #3

We're now starting to get to business in the scouting, as the next stopover is in Europe, with a brief layover in South America. Europe has always been renowned for producing skilled NBA-ready players who can shoot the lights out. However, recently NBA GM's have gone bananas over skilled Euro youngsters and picked them based on potential, before they were ready to make any sort of impact in Europe, let alone the NBA. Meanwhile, South America has provided a few NBA studs in recent years, will this trend continue on?!?

EUROPE & SOUTH AMERICA

A few Euro bigmen headline this year's class, but they are joined by a couple of NLSC guards who are intent on making the NBA their playgrounds. Two South Americans also figure to land at opposite ends of the 1st Round.

MARTYNAS ANDRIUSKEVICIUS

Image

Whilst he probably isn't ready to contribute for a couple of seasons, I don't think many teams want to pass on a kid as big as Andriuskevicius (7'3") who is both co-ordinated and has skills unbelying of his height. At present, this Lithuanian prodigy could go anywhere in the Top 5 picks in the draft. However any team that picks him will have to be very patient as his offensive skills are almost non-existent, and he really needs to hit the weight room unless he wants to be beaten up by the likes of Shaq and the Beast. Behind Andrew Bogut, he is the best bigman available in this draft, and probably the best true centre prospect available (considering Bogut is probably more of a PF than a C).

NBA Comparison - Zydrunas Ilgauskas

Image
Umm....that looks an awful lot like a....umm....let's move on

FRAN VAZQUEZ

Image

Vazquez will be the first 22 and over player drafted in this year's draft. Vazquez is an athletic player who has great speed, mobility and excellent leaping ability. He’s got a big wingspan and is a tireless worker on both ends of the court. Unlike a lot of other Europeans, Vazquez won't be intimidated at the next level and should slot straight in and help an NBA team from the offset. Vazquez is currently ranked 5th in many mock drafts and will likely be picked somewhere between the 4-10 range.

NBA Comparison - Poor Man's Marcus Camby

Image
Fran is not shy on using his leaping ability to throw it down

TIAGO SPLITTER

Image

Whilst his height (6'11") suggests he might eventually play a bit of centre, his game suggests he might become a SF. At present however, he's a PF and a good one at that. For a long time Tiago Splitter has been considered Brazil's best pro prospect (better than Nene, Vareajo & Barbosa). The time for him to come to the NBA has come. Splitter is currently projected to be picked in the 5-10 range and could possibly have the biggest impact of this Euro class. Tiago has a nice and improving offensive game, which includes good footwork in the post and the ability to step out and hit the open shot from anywhere on the court. It must be said however that he's physically not strong enough and will struggle initially on defense and the boards. The upside is definitely there though.

NBA Comparison - Pau Gasol

Image
Dubbed the last Brazilian Pearl, can Tiago take Brazilian basketball to a level not seen since Oscar Schmidt?!?

SILVA BIASON ('Melo)

Image

All I can say about this kid is "wow". This is because he brings the "wow"-factor everytime he steps foot on the court. Silva Biason is a superb athlete who's body was designed with basketball in mind. He can jump out of the gym and he's no doubt gonna become a fan favourite before too long. Biason has been dubbed "Euro Jordan", but we've heard that name thrown around too often. His game isn't anywhere near as complete as MJ's, then again, whose game is? I prefer to call him the "Spanish Fly" as he's always buzzing down the court at blindingly quick speeds and he has no problems getting airborne either.

NBA Comparison - JR Smith meets T-Mac(athleticism)

Image
Even down to the sneakers, this kid can fly

LEO REYES (Seraph)

Image

With all the superb Euro talent at the top of the crop, it's easy to forget some of the other guys. Someone you don't won't to forgot is Leo Reyes, the Argentinan dynamo. Whilst severely undersized at 5'8" you would expect him to have to be an aggressive offensive player to cut it in the NBA. Well this doesn't stand true for Reyes. Reyes has an uncanny ability at letting the game come to him as he gets everyone else the ball in scoring positions and can hit the open shot if the defense gives it to him. Reyes will likely be picked up in the early 20s and could be the missing link on a championship contender.

NBA Comparison - Steve Nash meets Michael Adams

Image
Word around the street has it that Seraph designs his own shoes....

NOTE: I have since adjusted Seraph's age as I did not know his age until after screenshots were taken.
