Discussion about NBA Live 2003.

Some guys in Germany (including me) are currently editing rosters and graphics to create a patch of the German s.Oliver BBL league. (see
http://www.bbl-live.de.vu). Everything works fine while playing single games but if you want to play a season the game crashes.
The teams.dbf only contains the 14 BBL teams plus 2 Allstar teams (north and south) and, of course, free agents.
So if you want to start a season and put 3 or 4 teams into every division the game crashes.
Is there a minimum of teams you must have for playing a season? What else could be the reason for this?

i think its a minimum of 8 teams per conference

no, there isn't.
i played once a season with 4 teams in 2 divisions and 3 teams in the others. I had no problems to simulate it to the finals. 4 teams from west and 4 from east were qualified for the playoffs.

There must be a minimum of 16 teams in a season. An alternative would be to create the 14 league teams, 2 bonus teams (eg BBL All-Stars and NBA All-Stars), and edit the schedule so that only the 14 league teams play during the season.
EnBW-Tim,
Those errors are the result of problems with a dbf file. They arise when you:
a) Use Excel to edit the dbf and save incorrectly
b) Enter an invalid value into a cell.

we have already 16 teams. (including allstar teams)
the error lies in our dbf files. there are some fields with no value.

16 regular teams plus the two All-Star teams? Or 14 regular teams plus two All-Star teams? A team with a TEAMCODE of 0 (a regular team) can be entered in a season/franchise/playoff, while the All-Star team cannot.

Nope. 14 teams are enough to play a season! We tried it with the NBA teams. I put 3 teams into Pacific and Atlantic and 4 teams into Midwest and Central. It worked!
Any other ideas? Why doesn't it work with our DBF's? If you want I can send you our teams.dbf. Maybe someone will find the error.

How can I edit the schedule?

Actually, you are correct. You do not need 16 teams to play a season, but I believe you do need at least 16 teams to play a franchise.
There are various schedule.dbf files in the database folder in the game's main folder. The team numbers correspond to the TEAMID in teams.dbf. By changing these values, you can edit the schedule.

OK, thank you for the schedule tip.
If anyone is interested in helping us and finding the error, you can download our teams.dbf
here.
Thank you in advance!
