WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -- Juan Dixon has the green light as the first player off the bench for the Washington Wizards, one of the few teams that beat the Suns this season. Dixon scored all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter and added six assists as the Wizards extended the Suns season-high losing streak to three games with a 109-101 victory over the Phoenix Suns, who have lost three in a row for the first time this season.
"His defense was just as important. It got everybody going," Wizards head coach Eddie Jordan said of Dixon, who scored all his fourth-quarter points during a crucial stretch. "Knowing that he is contributing defensively makes him feel comfortable out there on the offensive end. "He is aggressive and he knows what we need. It is a comfort zone for him. He is the first guy coming off (the bench) and he has the green light." Gilbert Arenas scored 10 of his 16 points in the final period as the Wizards shown that they can beat the Suns with a healthy team.
After an 11-1 burst gave Phoenix a small lead with 5:39 to go in the third quarter, Washington used a 14-6 spurt sparked by Hughes' eight points to regain the league before the start of the 4th quarter. "It was our defense," Dixon said of the surge. "We had our small group out there running around and causing havoc on the defensive end. We were trying to turn turnovers into easy baskets, and that is what we were able to do. Hopefully, we can keep it up." Phoenix climbed within 104-101 with 15 seconds remaining, but Hughes sank one of his three 3-pointers and Dixon made both his foul shots with eight seconds to play to seal the victory. Antawn Jamison added 18 points for the Wizards who held Marion to only 9 points for the game.
"We pulled it out again," Arenas said. "We aren't worried about the other team. It's about our 15 guys and coaches. We think we can win every night, every game, even when we're down double digits -- no matter what." Amare Stoudemire scored 30 points and Quentin Richardson added 17 and 7 boards for the Suns, who have dropped five in a row at the MCI Center. "It was tough because we fought," Suns head coach Mike D'Antoni added. "We were ahead for most of the game and our guys played hard. We just could not finish down the stretch. They hit some big shots. They are a good close-out team."

Yea for some reason we haven't been hitting shots like we normally do. Losing Stoudemire really hurt me too. I might have to do some training or something. It's nothing wrong with losing though because you don't want to be perfect.

Hamilton is no doubt having an all-star season with the defending champions, Detroit Pistons. He is averaigng a career-best 23.9ppg and 6apg. He is the only Pistons starter to play in all 36 games this season. Joe Johnson will have to keep up through alot of set picks and speed. Johnson can light it up from downtown though, shooting 41% from 3-point land this season.

Things haven't been looking too good in Phoenix lately. This is the first time this season that the Suns have experienced a 3-game losing streak. They will finally end their rugged road trip today in Detroit and try to keep from going 0-4 on the trip.

Detroit hasn't been playing like champions lately. They are just 18-18 and are 7th in the Eastern Conference standings. They have been playing great the past three games, which they have won. The Pistons are just 4-9 against Western Conference opponents this season.

Detroit who had one of the top defense last season made the Suns' high-tempo offense look highly ordinary in a 100-83 loss to the surging Detroit Pistons. Against the Pistons, whose defensive tenacity helped them to the NBA title last season, the Suns never were able to get into sync offensively. They shot 42 percent (34-of-81), went 7-of-20 from the arc and had only 12 free throw attempts.
Joe Johnson led Phoenix with 23 points. Quentin Richardson scored 19 on 8-for-10 shooting, including 2-for-3 from the arc. It was a rough afternoon for Steve Nash, who shot a season-low 2-16 from the field, 0-4 from 3-point range and only scoring 5 points. He did dish out 10 assists in the game. "They just beat to every spot, beat us all day, beat us up, beat us in anything you want to talk about," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "They were just quicker to the ball, a bit stronger, and everything that you are afraid of. When you are a middleweight and they are a heavyweight and you cannot run around the ring, they are going to catch you and pound you, and that's what they did to us today."
The Pistons had little trouble finding their rhythm offensively as they build a 20-7 lead seven minutes into the contest. Rip Hamilton scored a season-high 31 points to pace the Pistons, who have won a season-high four straight games. "The last three weeks, he has had a stretch as good as any good player is going to have," Detroit coach Larry Brown said. "He's getting better every game. We're running some things for him now, but I'm talking about every phase of the game. He's defending and rebounding and making good passes." Chauncey Billups added 27 points and Tayshaun Prince had 17 points. Ben Wallace also was active with 9 points and 17 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass. "We've been playing good for a while now, and hopefully we can stay at this level and continue to get better," Billups said.

yea its been really bad the past 4 games. the fact that they were road games, plus each team had legit big men...boozer, joneal, wizards had 2 all-stars in arenas and jamison and pistons had sheed and big ben along with rip and billups. it doesnt get any easier because i play the grizz next
then san antonio...after that i got some easy eastern teams like nets, knicks, bucks, celtics and raptors. after the 4-game road trip, i got 3 home games, then i go on a 6-game road trip.Sorry for this "lack of posts". But you can't stop this dynasty, it's really amazing...

Jason Williams did not play in the last meeting due to injury, but he will play in tonight's game despite him still being hurt with a sore toe. Nash will test to see how well his toe is by doing what he does best, which is pushing the ball. Nash is coming off his worse game shooting wise, only scoring 5p oints on 2-14 shooting.

The Grizzlies are the 2nd hottest team in the league with a 7-game winning streak. The Bulls are the only team with a longer streak with 10 straight games. Memphis is coming off a huge win against their division rivals, the Rockets, with a 114-97 blwout. Pau Gasol and Mike Miller are the top two scorers on the Grizzlies with Gasol averaging 17.9ppg and Miller averaging 17.3ppg.

Bonzi Wells scored 19 points and Shane Battier scored 8 points to help the surging Grizzles to a 92-85 victory over the suddenly struggling Suns. After winning 31 of their first 35 games, the Suns lost their fifth straight contest and are averaging a season-low in points in the past five games. They shot just 6-19 (31%) from downtown in the game. "We came out and played an excellent defensive game tonight," Wells said. "The pressure we put on them was great and we executed the exact way Coach Fratello told us to. We have been shooting the ball extremely well these last 7, 8 games, but tonight it came from the free throw line."
"We shot only 31 percent from down and I don't know if we can beat anyone like that," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I don't know how we can go from the low to mid 40 percent shooting to 31 percent in one week. Guys are taking shots they don't normally take. lol, i used JJ at the point at times because i was so focused on trying to win that game and i was trying to put a bigger guard at the point so i can give watson and jwill some trouble. i mainly sticked with the lineup of hunter, amare, marion, johnson and nash for most of the game. watson only played 3 minutes too so the grizzlies weren't using him that much even though jwill was hurt which i didn't get. so sometime they would put bonzi or miller at pg so i had to stick with a big player or nash.

Duncan is 2nd in the MVP voting almost midway through the season. He is averaging 24.8ppg, 11.3rpg and 2.2bpg for the Spurs. Before Stoudemire was hurt, he was bound to have his best month of the season starting it off with a career-high 51 points in his first game of the new year against the Portland Trailblazers.

San Antonio has slowly snuck in to obtain the league's best record as the Suns hit their 5-game losing streak. Tonight will be the start of the Spurs west coast road swing. San Antonio beat the Suns earlier in the season in a 122-99 blowout.

Nobody can really understand why the Suns are losing. They are 5-5 in their last 10 games when they only lost 4 games in the last two months. Even though they are struggling, they lead their division 4 games ahead of the trailing Sacramento Kings. Amare Stoudemire played great against the Spurs back in December. He scored 43 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Suns loss.

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- Brent Barry and the San Antonio Spurs showed which team was the best in the NBA. Barry scored 14 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Spurs posted a 90-88 thriller over Stoudemire and the slumping Phoenix Suns. After starting the season 31-4, the Suns have lost six consecutive games, yielding the best record to the Spurs (33-9), who used a funky four-guard lineup to keep the Suns from storming in the 4th quarter.
After the Suns made a run in the 3rd quarter, the Spurs went to four guards and superstar Tim Duncan to combat the quickness of the Suns in the 4th quarter. After starting the season 31-4, the Suns have lost six consecutive games, yielding the best record to the Spurs (33-9), who used a funky four-guard lineup to keep the Suns from storming in the 4th quarter.

Amare Stoudemire scored 32 points and Steve Nash added 19 and 9 assists as the Suns snapped a season-high six-game losing streak with a 107-96 victory over the Nets. "Nothing grand, just a 32nd win after seven tries," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We are kind of cruising a little bit. I don't know if it is emotional or what, but we are going to have to turn it up."
Entering the game riding a season-best three-game winning streak, the Nets went shot for shot with the league's top offense in the first half, before the Suns finished the 2nd quarter on a 10-1 run. In the 3rd quarter, the Nets grabbed their largest lead when Jason Collins' jumper made it 62-57 with 10:42 left in the third period. But the Suns responded with one of their signature runs, blitzing the Nets for 16 straight points. Quentin Richardson started the spurt with a 3-pointer and Shawn Marion capped it with a jumper, giving Phoenix a 73-62 lead with 4:31 remaining. A layup by Stoudemire less than 2 1/2 minutes later pushed the lead to 13 points, and New Jersey got no closer than four points thereafter. "The 2nd quarter and late third quarter kind of put us in a bad way with them shooting those threes," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "Thpse quarters turned the game around for them. They are better then us and separated themselves."
Stoudemire, who made his first eight shots of the game, continued to feast upon the Nets, improving to 4-1 with career averages of 23.8 points and 10.6 rebounds. "I have been focusing on my shots and they seem to be falling for me everytime I put it up," Stoudemire said. "It seemed kind of unnatural for us to be on a six-game losing streak. I knew it was just a matter of time before we got to where we were." Carter, who entered with a career average of 30.4 points against the Suns, scored 26 points on 10-of-23 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds for New Jersey, which absorbed its 11th straight loss at America West Arena. "I think they thought they were going to blow us out," Carter said. "We kind of earned their respect and made them buckle down and play their kind of basketball. The mental focus and the effort we put out was phenomenal. It is too bad we couldn't finish that great story with a win."
Kidd chipped in 25 points, three rebounds and twelve assists for the Nets. "It might not look like it but we tried to slow it down," Kidd said. "Everything was going pretty well but we didn't want to give up a big quarter like in the second. They got shooters everywhere."
