Inside the NBA with Kenny "The Jet" Smith, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson and Ernie Johnson.
Welcome everyone to Inside the NBA All-Star Weekend Edition. I'm Ernie Johnson along side Kenny "The Jet" Smith, Charles Barkley and Magic Johnson. In a few minutes we will be watching the Foot Locker 3-Point Shootout. This game will features 8 of the finest 3-point specialist in NBA today.
This will an interesting contest. He will have a new champion since the Voshon Lenard, the reigning Foot Locker 3-Point Shootout champion will not participate due to an injury.
And also, Peja Stojakovic, arguably the best shooter in the NBA today, will also not be here today coz of personal reason.
Well I talked to Peja and I will quote-unquote what he said: “I’m doing it almost every game (referring to 3-point shooting) and that’s what my game was. I think I need some break and stop shooting 3’s just for this All-Star break.”
He really said that to you Charles??
Yes, you don’t believe me Kenny…
Lets talk about the participants, I think it will be a great shootout and will be interesting to see a new champion.
Okey lets start with the favorites, Michael Redd and Jamal Crawford. Redd was shooting 40.2% and have converted 98 3-points so far. I’l go with him. Though I think Crawford will be his biggest competitor. Jamal only shooting 36% and has the highest 3p oints shot made among all the participants. And Cuttino Mobley will be a darkhoorse, shooting 129 of 348 trey for a 37.1% mark.
I agree with you with that. I also think guys like David Wesley, Derek Anderson and Tracy McGrady might steal this one from those 3. Tracy had a great season shooting 3’s. With Yao plugging the inside, T-mac always find himself open for a trey. He made 98 treys for a 36.7 %. While DA already made 111 from downtown from 33% shooting. Wesley may have the lowest shooting percentage at 32% and only converted 79 but during the contest he will be my favorite. He’s a great shooter.
You already mentioned all the great shooter which left me with only 2 remaining players. Vlad Radmanovic was a great shooter and will represent the Soincs which features great shooter like Lewis and Allen. They’ve choose Rad over Ray or Rashad?? Well… and the last guy was Ron Artest. And tell you he is great…. Great defender, that’s all I can say about him..
Common, Charles, Artest made 83 three’s and shooting 39%, better that any good shooter in the league.
Okey, who will be the new Foot Locker 3-Point Shootout Champoin?
As I said, I picked Redd.
It may be Redd, but I’m still rooting for my man, David Wesley
Okey as Kenny said I’l go with his favorite, Ron Artest…
Ha ha, seriously I’l go with Radmanonic, he will surprise many later.. Mark my word Kenny.
I also go for Redd.
Well, that's it for tonight folks. We will see you later on Inside the NBA. I'm Ernie Johnson along with Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Magic Johnson. Goodnight.

Ben Wallace was happy and laughing while watching in the sideline.

Jamal Crawford

Though scoring much better than Artest, Crawford still got

Derek Anderson

Derek Anderson scored 13 points to equal Crawford performance.
Good for second place... but not for long.

David Wesley

Fans was all amazed to see Wesley made all 25 shots for a
perfect 30 points performance. Kenny already said give the trophy to Wesley.

Vladimir Radmanovic

Radmanovis also manage to score 13 points and failed to
reach the second round.

Michael Redd

Redd was the favorite to win this contest but gave a
so-so performance, scoring 13 points and failed to hit a money ball

Tracy McGrady

McGrady failed to make the last money ball that would put
him into 2nd place and the right to face fellow Rockets, Wesley.

The Scoreboard

Final Round
Cuttino Mobley

mobley wasn't able to amke money ball in the fianl round
and finished with 16 points.

David Wesley

Wesley after a perfect 1st round, capped the contest by
scoring 26 with only 2 money ball missed

The Scoreboard

WILD, WILD WESLEY

DENVER, Feb. 19 (Ticker) -- In winning his first ever Shootout, David Wesley gave a whole new meaning to perfection.
The Houston Rockets guard almost made all the shots in the contest, hitting of all 25 shots in the first round and 23 in the final round en route to victory in his second straight appearance in the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout.
“I never thought I can make all 25 in the 1st round," said Wesley afterward, "and some guys missed a lot of shots. I think it was luck, there were times I mad a bad release but still his way to the hoop. I thank God for this award.
Orlando’s Cuttino Mobley, also appearing for the 1st time in this contest, was only few who shot good that night. He scored 24; only misses were the 3 money balls. And in the final round, he missed all the money balls and to post a second-place 16.
"I just came in relaxed, I’m not expected to win this thing," said Wesley. "I knew it was going to be a tough one with guys like Michael (Redd) and Tracy in the contest. Everybody was expecting them to win. So I think they put a lot of pressure on them to come out and do well."
In the first round, it appeared that the contest was a joke. Ron Artest, who shoots first just scored 6 points and misses his last 13 shots. During that stretch, fans started booing him. Jamal Crawford done a better job but fans still booed him.
"If I was given 25 open 3-point shots, I will definitely make 7,” Ben Wallace said about Artest performance. "They just wasted 1 spot in the contest; they should have given it to Rip or Chauncey.
Mobley shoots next and fans applauded him when he made his 1st 14 shots to finish with 24 points. Fellow Houston Rockets Tracy McGrady failed to make it an all-Rockets finals when he missed the last money ball that would gave him with 25 points to top Mobley’s 24. He finished with 23. Seattle's Vladimir Radmanovic (16), Portland’s Derek Anderson (13) and Milwaukee’s Michael Redd (13) rounded out the field.
"I was still frustrated not playing in the All-star,” said Redd. Michael Redd was originally selected to be a reserve for East Squad but later cut to give Lebron James the spot.
In his 2nd participation in this cotest, Wesley was so happy he won it this time. He also broke alomost every record in this contest.
'Well Im' think it's all about the jersey. I'm more comfortable wearing this new Rockets uniform than the one i wore 2 years ago," said Wesley with a smile on his face.

this is just amazing micchy_boy, awesome updates, you're the man!!!!! i love this game, you can call me a fanboy but espn nba 2k5 doesn't even deserve to be compared to this years live. this is fun and playing nba video games isn't just about the simulation aspect, it has to be a combination of both. i'm glad ea added this asw, thanks ea... and i hope you wont remove this feature just like what you did to the other features.... hehehe....
sorry i got off the topic, but your updates get me carried me away.... keep it up mich.... i'll wait for the slam competition....
Fri Jan 07, 2005 2:21 pm
Again thanks to everyone.
yeah there were deserving players not included in the contest. Stojakovic and Lenard were not picked. Also in my dynasty, B.Davis, E.Jones, Skip and J-wil were leading in 3-points made while Radmanovic and even Atkins were among the top in 3-point accuracy.
.:[Scorpion]:.- thanks for the correction, somehow i was thinking of Lenard since he won it last time. i edit it now.
well with the comments i saw, that even gave me inspiration to make the other recap. but only on this all-star and play-oof i guess... i wont do that in every game
yeah the slamdunk next but it will take sometime... i'm doing it now but i must go to a wake coz one of our family friend dide 2 days ago....

In a few minutes we will be watching the Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Competition. This contest will features 4 of the finest high-flyers in NBA today.
I thought this contest was for rising stars. But just looked at all the competitors, they were already an all-star or even superstar level. I think they change the rules so I think they should also change the name and erase the “Rising Stars” in the title.
I agree with you on that Charles. But let’s not talked that anymore. Look at the participants and you will see 4 great players with great bounce and ability to hang in the air for some time. We will still see a great contest here.
Yes, I think this 4 guys will give us some crazy dunks and stuff, just looked at those some highlight dunk they made in the season. These guys owned some of the sickest dunk so far.
Lets talk about the participants, Kobe Bryant, Richard Jefferson, Steve Francis and Kevin Garnett.
I’ll start with Bryant, he’s the man!!! He’s the only former champion of this event. He only doesn’t get the opportunity to defend his title when they didn’t include this event the following year. He maybe a 2-time slamdunk king if that happen. Well he got another chance to win this event and add to his trophy collections.
Yeah, I still remember those great dunks he made.
Richard Jefferson was another great dunker, definitely one of the best finisher in Nets running game. He already showed everyone how high he can jump and finish with various dunk. And he also joined this event few years back and he gave a good account of himself in that contests.
The smallest guy in the contest, you wont believes how high he can jump. If you still remember he gave Vince Carter some competition in that slam dunk contest. Even though he didn’t win he got some cheers from all the fans.
Kevin Garnett maybe the biggest surprise. This will be the 1st time he joined this contest and I know he want to win this. As they said “Better late than never”.
Now lets talked about some of the players not selected and you think deserve to be invited.
Lebron James, just watch Sportcenter and he always have 1 or 2 highlight dunk in there.
Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter. I rather see T-Mac participating here than in 3-point shootout. Vinsanity I guess gave his spot for his teammate RJ. Those 2 will be my favorite.
Kenny, that why those 2 were not invited coz they won’t give 100% in this contest. Just like they do in their previous team Toronto and Orlando.
Amare Stoudamire, he’s a Suns and I want a Suns to win this. And I like those powerful dunk he made night in and night out.
Again for the last time, who will win this contest?
I go with my man, Kobe Bryant.
I think RJ will win this one.
Kobe Bryant.
Also go with RJ...
Well, that's it for tonight folks. We will see you next time Inside the NBA. I'm Ernie Johnson along with Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Magic Johnson. Goodnight.
