cheers for the comments guys

nice job so far i really like it, espically what you've done with the rookies

yeah jxuusa, I'm glad you like it, I will probably post a few more profiles for Europe and USA once I scout the areas. I figured it's a good way for me to try and remember some of the key draftees.

That Vin Baker pic is great

Yep, it is gold, and for the record for anyone who was wondering, Okafor facialised Vinny in the worst kind of way. He got sent to the bench and was seen ducking to the locker room for that elusive

You did? There seem to still be a couple there.

JANUARY SUMMARY

January was clearly a month to forget as the Bobcats lost 9 of 10 games. At the half-way point in the season Charlotte finds themselves have lost 13 of the last 14 games, and are on a 6 game skid at present and have a overall record of 6-23 which places them last in their division and 14th in the Eastern Conference. The 'Cats playoff hopes were all but crushed in the month of January.

Rookie Emeka Okafor still remains the core of this young team, as he leads the team in scoring (17.5ppg), rebounding (12.5rpg) and blocks (1.86bpg). As for position battles, Okafor and Gerald Wallace are the only players to have started in every game. Brevin Knight and Jason Hart continue to fight over the starting spot. Steve Smith has been a fixture in the starting lineup at SG for the last few games, but it is likely he will be dealt before the trading deadline to a contender. Melvin Ely also continues to press Primo Brezec for the other frontcourt starting spot, as he averaging a rock-solid 5.5ppg and 4.2rpg, and shown Charlotte's coaching staff that he could be a keeper.

The team owner expressed to the GM some concerns about the team's struggles and has given him the green light to make the necessary moves to improve the squad.

Image

I don't think this is what he had in mind:

However, it is expected that the GM will make a few moves before the trade deadline as the team looks forward to the free agency period and the draft.

PIC OF THE 1st HALF-SEASON

Image

Gerald Wallace has provided many Sportscenter highlights during the 1st half of the season. Whilst the team hasn't had too much to cheer about, you can't help but enjoy Gerald's endless array of tomahawk dunks.

Bobcats' scouting staff did an extensive European scouting mission in early January, and found enough to time to scout some American college games in the Southwest, including the prospective No. 1 pick in the 2005 Draft.

These scouting reports will be released in the next day or so. Also expect the team's Birdie Score breakdown through the 1st half of the season very soon.

Keep watching....

EUROPE

The scouts got over there New Year hangovers to catch up with some of Europe's top prospects. In reality, the scouts should have really just stayed in bed as this year's crop of European is probably the weakest in the last 5 years or so. There is only 4 locks for the 1st Round and 3 of them are Lurches. Let's just say this bunch of Europeans is more Frederic Weis rather than Dirk, Tony or Pau. Now that I've cleared this matter up it's time to check out the top Euro prospects for the draft.

DEMIAN REIRDEN

Image

Reirden is widely considered the best prospect available outside of the US. He will be selected somewhere in the middle of the lottery, and is not your typical European, as his game is more suited to the NBA than Europe. Scouts however have concerns with his body and all agree that he needs to hit the weight room to compete with bigger PF's. It is likely though that Reirden will have to spend some time at SF as he is only 6'8".

Comparisons:

Best Case Scenario: Juwan Howard
Worst Case Scenario: Alan Henderson

Most Likely Scenario: Kurt Thomas

IVAN HRKAC

Image

Hrkac should be snapped up somewhere from mid to late lottery as you don't find many big men with his offensive arsenal. In the right situation and with some work in the weight room, Hrkac definately has a chance to be a solid pivot in the NBA.

Comparisons:

Best Case Scenario: Brad Miller
Worst Case Scenario: Jason Collier

Most Likely Scenario: Mehmet Okur

MARK BECKER

Image

This 18 year old prospect has an NBA big man's body (7'0", 273lbs) and word is the kid is still growing. Becker has good potential and has shown strong improvement since beginning to play competitive basketball only 2 years ago. It must be said however that this kid is a project, but there are a handful of teams who will take a punt at him somewhere in the middle of the 1st Round.

Comparisons:

Best Case Scenario: Erick Dampier
Worst Case Scenario: Rasho Nesterovic

Most Likely Scenario: Jake Tsakalidis

US SOUTHWEST

With the college conference seasons in full swing it is time to head back to the States to check into the best the country has to offer. Bobcats' scouting staff have concentrated their initial efforts in the US' Southwest. This region includes the possible No. 1 pick in next year's draft, as well as a couple of seniors to boot who figure in a surprisingly strong senior class.

PRIEST ASKINS

Image

This super freshman has set the country alight with his play. If he declares, as is expected, Askins is a lock for Top 3 and has a chance to go with the No. 1 pick. Askins is a nice offensive player and will help any team at the PF position right away. Many question whether he is worthy of being the top pick, as he might be a good player, he just isn't expected to be a superstar. Either way, it should be interesting to watch his journey.

Comparisons:

Best Case Scenario: Chris Webber
Worst Case Scenario: Joe Smith

Most Likely Scenario: Joe Smith

DANTE OLIVER

Image

Dean Oliver's younger brother Dante is having a great sophomore campaign and is expected to declare this Fall. This would be a good move for Oliver as it is a relatively weak draft devoid of stars, and his stock will not getting higher than it currently is. At present, Dante is almost assured to be a lottery pick. The only thing I could really say about Oliver's hard-nosed type of game is 'what you see is what you get'. The team that drafts him will get a solid contributor who will never develop into anything more.

Comparisons:

Best Case Scenario: Brian Grant
Worst Case Scenario: Alan Henderson

Most Likely Scenario: Mike Sweetney

KERRY McKEY

Image

Kerry McKey comes from strong NBA bloodlines (his uncle is former Sonics and Pacers' player Derrick McKey), and could possibly be the first senior taken in the 2005 NBA Draft. McKey is a SF who doesn't mind doing the dirty work on the defensive end. He is well-schooled and should step in and help a team right away. He is expected to go in the mid-to-late lottery.

Comparisons:

Best Case Scenario: Bobby Simmons
Worst Case Scenario: Ira Newble

Most Likely Scenario: Derrick McKey (who else?)

DEAN FRIEDMAN

Image

This draft is stocked with PF's and C's, so it is only fair that we highlight one of the top SG prospects. Dean Friedman is the top senior SG prospect in the draft, and is quick, athletic and wouldn't look out of place in an And_1 Mix Tape with his strong ball handling skills. Friedman has still not develop a consistent jumpshot, and that might scare away a few potential suitors. But armed with an NBA SG's body, I really can't see him falling below the 20th slot, and more likely with good workouts he could sneak up into the lottery.

Comparisons:

Best Case Scenario: Michael Finley
Worst Case Scenario: Courtney Alexander

Most Likely Scenario: DeShawn Stevenson

That is all for now on the scouting front, there should be more to come before the season's done.

OTHER TIDBITS FROM JANUARY

Emeka Okafor had a superb month of January and was named the Eastern Conference's Rookie of the Month for January. Okafor has been a rock for the struggling Bobcats, and is a lock to start for the Rookies in the Rookie-Sophomore Game at All-Star Weekend. He is starting to also push Andre Iguodala and Ben Gordon for Rookie of the Year honours.

Image

And something tells me that the team needs to start winning a few more games:

Image

As for trading activity, the Bobcats are looking at unloading veterans Steve Smith &/or Jahidi White in deals for 2nd Round draft picks as they hope to land a mid to late 2nd Round pick to draft undersized SG Andrew Watson.

Looking at the draft strength (Average) and the fact that I'm gonna have a Top 4 pick, I'm considering trading my pick down the order. What do you guys think? The draft is strong in undersized PF's and stiff C's with little to no potential. What I need is PG's and SG's. There is only one top PG (Asian guy Julian Nwanaka) who could turn out alright. There are a couple of SG's available but the ones that I like will go somewhere in the 10-15 range. It's a shame that you can't trade draft picks after the trade deadline, as this would be handy to trade picks prior to the draft.

Any suggestions guys? I need backcourt help. Should I take a punt on the little Asian flyer or trade down and grab a solid SG who may develop.

ALL-STAR UPDATE

Image
Image

The Diesel is certainly impressing the fans with his play in Miami, as is Bron Bron in Ohio. Toine Walker has really been a huge asset for the surprising Hawks, and Carter has returned to all-star form, and always remains a crowd favourite and big vote-getter. The surprise of the bunch was choirboy Kirk Hinrich beating out the likes of Allen Iverson. This voting is indicative of the effects of the fight, as Jermaine O'Neal, Ben Wallace, Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson have already missed half the season due to suspension. Jason Kidd also just recently returned back from injury.

Image

In a huge shocker, Brad Miller edged out Yao for the starting spot at centre. In another shock, Rashard Lewis joined his teammate Ray Allen in the starting lineup, beating out Tim Duncan. Steve Nash rounds out the starting 5 with his strong play for the Suns.

BOBCATS TO PARTICIPATE IN ASW

EMEKA OKAFOR NAMED TO ROOKIE TEAM

Despite owning a league-worst record of 6-29 there is still reason for Bobcats' fans to celebrate. Firstly it was no surprise that Emeka Okafor was picked for the Rookie-Sophomore clash as he leads all rookies in rebounds and blocks, and is 2nd among all rookies in scoring.

Image

Here are the rest of the starters in this showcase event:

Image
Image

David Harrison has stepped in admirably in place of Jermaine O'Neal and with the injuries to Jeff Foster and Scot Pollard as he averages a double-double.

Emeka Okafor has been everything the expansion Bobcats hoped for when they traded up to pick him.

Andre Iguodala has been a surprise, not for his defense which was expected, but for his scoring and the fact he's beat out the Big Dog for the starting SF spot.

Ben Gordon has made the Bulls more enjoyable to watch with his slashing ways. He's a future star in the making.

Jameer Nelson beats out the injured Devin Harris for the PG spot as he continues his solid play behind Stevie Franchise.

Image

Chris Kaman is steadily improving his game as he continues to put up solid numbers off the bench for the Clippers.

More was expected from Bosh this season but he hasn't really delivered yet. Expect him to excel in the next season or two.

Carmelo Anthony has stayed out of trouble long enough to continue posting nice numbers for the Nuggets.

Lebron is great, nothing more and nothing less from this prodigy.

Hinrich and Lebron will be starting 2 games together in the backcourt this weekend and neither one is complaining.

EMEKA OKAFOR NAMED TO ALL-STAR TEAM

Image

With the East team lacking size, coaches have added Emeka Okafor as a reserve for the 2005 All-Star Game. This is a huge step for the rookie out of Connecticut who is quietly doing his business for Charlotte. Upon hearing the news yesterday Okafor could not wipe the smile off his face as he said, "it's an honour, an absolute honour to be picked to my first All-Star game. I will cherish every minute of it and hopefully can make many more over my career".

GERALD WALLACE TO COMPETE IN SLAM DUNK CONTEST

Image

It came as no surprise to Gerald Wallace when the league office came knocking down his door to compete in the 2005 Slam Dunk Contest. "I've been dunking since I was 12," Wallace said, "you guys ain't seen nothing yet. I've got a few new dunks I've been working on that are gonna get the crowd going crazy." Asked what they will be, Gerald responded "The Colonel doesn't give his secrets away, why should I? Come along on the night like every other cat and dog and you'll see." Gerald Wallace has never been short of confidence, and vows to win. "Perfect 50 every dunk. These dunks are more like 60 or 70 dunks, who knows, they might have to implement a new scoring system just for me".

Keep viewing to see how Meka does in his first all-star game, and whether Gerald Wallace can keep up with his mouth.

Oh yeah, as for trading activity it's looking unlikely that a deal will be done before the deadline.....

I will keep my high 1st Rounder, although I might trade the pick after the draft if I don't think the player can help me....I'm still trying to get another 2nd Rounder to pick Watson but we'll see about that....

any suggestions, let me know

(Y) for the compliment....and the vote....

yeah, I prefer the scouting and GM side of dynasty mode....I don't really have time or desire to recap my games like most other dynasty posters do (I play 1/3, 4th quarter intervene 1/3 and sim the other 1/3).....

hopefully by the end of the season I should have scouted every 1st Rounder and any 2nd Rounders that I might draft....probably do a Mock Draft or something....hopefully it allows me to remember other team's draftees this time as in Live '04 when I was 10 years into my Nuggets dynasty, couldn't really remember any of them.....so it's partly for reference I guess.....

at the moment I'm leaning towards drafting that Asian rookie Julian Iwanaka....hopefully he is more Mike Bibby than Jamaal Tinsley....

that reminds me that I need to do a little bit more dbf editing on player salaries to bring them into line as of now, ie. AK47, Tony Parker, Zach Randolph all getting extensions....

ALL-STAR FESTIVITIES LIGHT UP DENVER

The Bobcats had 2 players representing them in 3 out of the 4 main All-Star events. Emeka Okafor gets it started on the Friday night as he starts at PF for the Rookie Stars in the Rookie-Sophomore clash. Gerald Wallace will try to live up to his motor mouth in the Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday night. Finally, Emeka Okafor will come off the bench for the Eastern Conference All-Stars on Sunday afternoon.

ROOKIE-SOPHOMORE GAME

This was a tightly contested game with the favoured Sophomore Stars holding on to defeat the Rookie Stars 109-103. The game provided free-flowing basketball and many high-flying dunks. However, there was a scary moment for Orlando fans as rookie Dwight Howard took a hard knock and limped off in the 3rd. Howard did return and his injury is considered that serious. Chris Bosh ended up taking MVP honours as he chalked up 17pts, 8rebs and 5blks. Emeka Okafor led all scorers with 21pts and 10rebs.

PICS:

Image

Okafor gets a strong applause from the Denver crowd.

Image

Dwight Howard puts a scare through Magic fans as he limps off, supported by fellow rookies Okafor (left) and Nocioni (right).

Image

No one can wipe the cheesy grin off Chris Bosh's face as earns more silverware for the cabinet as he tries to overcome a disappointing sophomore season in Toronto.

SLAM DUNK CONTEST

Gerald Wallace promised to surprise the world with his slam dunk brilliance in the Dunk Contest. Gerald Wallace couldn't match his words as he failed to complete one successful dunk.

CONTESTANTS

Image

In what is considered one of the weaker fields in slam dunk contest history, the favourites for this event are Steve Francis and Gerald Wallace.

FIRST ROUND

Image

Gerald Wallace stepped up to the plate first and failed at his attempt to do a double between the legs. He only scored a 25 for his efforts.

Image

Steve Francis put up a solid tomahawk dunk with a twist and scored a respectable 41. Al Harrington tossed one off the shot clock that got him a 50. With his first dunk Quentin Richardson scored a strong 47 as he tossed the ball to himself and finished it with style.

Image

Realising it would probably be his last dunk of the contest after the blown first dunk, Wallace tried to do something special. Wallace started at half court, threw a long lob which bounced off the backboard, and whilst the ball was in the air, Wallace started to do a couple of cartwheels and go up for the finisher. THe nearly impossible dunk did not pull off due to bad timing. Wallace had about 10 seconds to get off a successful dunk, so he re-tried his first dunk, but it clanged off the ring, and Wallace hung his head in shame as he will never live this contest down. The judges took pity again as they handed out another score of 25.

Image

The contest had hit its lowest point, but it all changed next dunk when Stevie Franchise put up a perfect 50, followed by Al Harrington doing the same. That left Q needing a 45 to move through to the final round to face Al. Q lobbed the ball, went up, got it and threw down a hard jam, and hung from his elbow. One of the best dunks you'll ever see as it combined a few different dunks from previous contests. Richardson scored a perfect 50 for this dunk and moved on to the final round.

The first round ended like this:

Image

FINAL ROUND

In an unbelievable display, both Quentin Richardson and Al Harrington put up perfect 50s with BOTH of their final round dunks. This led to an unbelievable situation where a tiebreaker dunk would decide the 2005 Slam Dunk Champion.

Quentin Richardson went first, proceeded to the free throw line, and stopped. He turned around to face the opposing basket, and bounced the ball backwards between his legs. He spun around, caught the ball and threw down a solid dunk. Nothing special like the 7 previous dunks that the crowd had seen, but solid nonetheless. This dunk score Q a 43.

Image

With the way he had been dunking (4 straight perfect 50s), a 44 should have been pretty simple for the Hawks star. However, the pressure got to him. He failed to catch a ball toss in his first try at the dunk. In desperation, and seemingly out of fresh ideas, he did the unthinkable. He copied Q's between the legs bounce and dunk. The dunk was slightly different, and probably as good as Richardson's. However, it was unoriginal, and he only scored a 40 on it.

Image

Here you go folks, please give it up for your 2005 Slam Dunk Champion, Quentin Richardson :applaud:

Image

ALL-STAR GAME

EASTERN CONFERENCE SQUAD

Image

This is quite an inexperienced team with six of the them making their first All-Star appearance (James, Hinrich, Okafor, Harrington, Davis & Hamilton). Shaq returns to the East All-Star team for the first time since he left for the Lakers, and Vince Carter continues to start every year.

WESTERN CONFERENCE SQUAD

Image

As with the East's squad, this team has many first timers as well (Lewis, Boozer, Anthony, Miller & Gasol). Garnett and Duncan once again make the team, but this time Duncan has to come off the bench.

GAME RECAP

This game was blow-out city baby. The Western Conference once again proved they are the best as they easily beat the Eastern Conference 132-100. Emeka Okafor played 8 minutes and had 4 points and 3 rebounds. Like Howard did on Friday night, Okafor tweaked his ankle in the third quarter. However, Bobcats' medical staff reveal that it was only a minor tweak, and Okafor will not miss any games.

TOP PERFORMERS

Kevin Garnett (West) 24pts, 15rebs, 6blks (MVP)
Shaquille O'Neal (East) 16pts, 12rebs, 5blks
Lebron James (East) 17pts, 6rebs, 6asts
Ray Allen (West) 27pts

PICS

Image

This has to be a scary moment for any Bobcats' fan as Okafor hobbles off the court.

Image

Kevin Garnett and the West were simply too much on the day for the East

I hope you all enjoyed the All-Star coverage.....

yep, cheers for the update....did ya get the Okafor pic I sent you as Okafor seems to have a black face :?

as for Okafor, he made the All-Star team!!! It surprised me a bit, but I guess he's putting up nice numbers and East is weak, especially with J. O'Neal and B. Wallace still on IR in my dynasty.....

I'm actually starting to get use to my team a little more and have won 2 out of the last 3 games....I'll prolly update this thread in the next few days, and I've only about a half dozen games away from the 3/4 point, so expect same more pstats

I'm expecting a little improvement from Brevin Knight who now has secured starting PG spot, and I'm trying a few different strategies that are helping....I expect my Birdie Score in next instalment to rise a little more.....

also, Honor Glow, can you read post I left on LiveDynasty Forums as I want to discuss dynasty sypnosis idea....

2nd TRI-MESTER SUMMARY

I'm two-thirds of the way through the 2004/05 season and the Bobcats are 8-31, having gone a very dissappointing 3-17 over the past tri-mester. That could have been even worse had the Bobcats not put together a 2 game winning streak at the end of February. In the last week of February there was an apparant difference in the team's play. The team has been a lot more competitive of late and coach Bickerstaff is pleased that the hard work is finally starting to pay off.

The month of February has just finished and All-Star Weekend has come and gone, with the Bobcats represented well in 3 of the 4 major events. Emeka Okafor is no longer considered a rookie anymore, as his All-Star selection illustrated that Okafor has quickly developed into one of the premier PF's in the NBA. Gerald Wallace and Primo Brezec both continue their steady development at the other frontcourt positions, whilst Brevin Knight and Keith Bogans appear to have finally locked up the backcourt spots, at least till the end of the season.

There was only one major transaction in the 2nd tri-mester was the waiving of Tamar Slay and the free agent signing of Fresno State alum Courtney Alexander. Whilst he has shown flashes of his old self, he has not secured a spot in the team's rotation. Charlotte tried to unload veterans Steve Smith and Jahidi White for 2nd Round draft picks to no avail, so the GM decided to stick with the team through until the end of the season. Talking about the off-season, the Bobcats will likely pick no later than 4th overall, and should be able to pick a talented player to the roster.

PIC OF THE 2nd TRI-MESTER

Image

So it's not really a pic but the story is worth taking the spot. Poor old Grant Hill just has no luck as he is having more problems with his troublesome ankle. Fortunately for Grant and the Magic it was only a sprain, however it is enough to put renewed concerns in all basketball fans. Here's hoping that Hill can put the worst of his injury problems behind him and have a safe and happy time in the twilight of his career.
