Custom music and arena music

Fri Feb 09, 2018 12:26 am

So I’m new to this forum and I heard that if you use the nba2k18 file explorer, you can import your own music into the game. But I have a problem. When, for example, I click on the particular sound that I want to overwrite, the program log says that VLC does not recognize the input’s format, thus not playing it. Is there a way to fix this, because it has been shown on Dee4Three’s tutorial. Also, can you import your own arena sounds or PA announcer in the game?

What is the sound format are you trying to import wav or ogg?
What file are you trying to replace?

Jukebox music or one of the PA announcer voices/ arena music, I’m using OGG by the way

Well after extract, you can listen the audios with Foobar2000 program (I did not find any other program capable of playing the ogg LancerMod(SSE3) (based on aoTuV [20110424])), but before import to the program, you need to rename the extension .wav to ogg, otherwise the program will not recognize.
For example the jukebox 000041-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.wav to 000041-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.ogg then import.

I tried convert the song to the BS; LancerMod(SSE3) (based on aoTuV [20110424][1.3.5]) ogg (you'll need the oggenc2.exe to convert) then i renamed the extension to .wav and i put in the Waigua\newaudio\jukeboxmusic (or Modded\newaudio\jukeboxmusic folder)
But unfortunable the file exporter not regonize this folder, and the song not changed, i also tried to replace with 2k explorer but the song gets mute in the game.
I think it's because I converted with a newer version, BS; LancerMod(SSE3) (based on...[1.3.5]) I did not find the old one BS; LancerMod... aoTuV [20110424]

I am not much help when it comes to audio files.
theres an ogg info tool on rarewares http://www.rarewares.org/ogg-tools.php maybe if you run it through there it'll provide more information.
also, some modded games the audio must be a certain hz. like cryengine stuff must be OGG Vorbis, 16-bit, 48KHz. maybe try a differeing bit or khz.
lastly, maybe 2kexplorer isn't importing it correctly.
anyways, hope that helps.

So it can be done? Sry if I keep asking, I just think it would be really cool to put your own stuff into the game...

A couple things.

If you follow my video to a T, it will work. Use audacity to change the song/sound to 48000, and save as.ogg. after you hit import, don't touch anything. If there is a size difference, it can take like 5 minutes (like the whole like of the song) to import successfully.

Also, if you are getting index errors, or it won't even load an archive. Make sure you delete manifest G out of your main NBA 2K17 directory.

I have tried to replace the arena sounds before, and it does work. Of you are getting errors, you could also verify your game cache through Steam, this way the files are put back in good order.

Thank you for the quick reply. I want to add a few things.
Does this work for NBA2k18? I know it works for 2k17 but I’m guessing 2k18 does things differently? Also, when I click on the sound I want to import, it says core input error format or audio file not detected but it says audio path detected and the audio won’t play. I will send the log tomorrow but do you know the fix to this message?

So there’s no fix? I think that there probably is, because if you look at MAUMAU SFX MOD, you can see that the sounds have been overwritten

Good point, I have not tried it with 2K18. I assumed it worked the same.

Could you please try it

Do you want me to try jukebox music? Or arena music? I can try to test today.

Yes, but the jukebox and other sounds are different.

I changed the custom music sample rate to 48000 Hz but still no sound. my converted custom music has the same properties
of the original one and didn't work. I tried with audacity convertion too, but still no luck.

I tried using original song from the game replacing another one.
For example original 000031-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.wav (Drake ft Quavo & Travis Scott - Portland) replacing 000041-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.wav (Salmo - 1984) just exported renamed and imported again.
And now it has sound, but it's all distorted :? maybe the problem is in 2k explorer import.

We should have an update for the file explorer tool then, who can we ask so this feature also work?

Re: Custom music and arena music

Sun Feb 25, 2018 3:44 am

Try both

Re: Custom music and arena music

Sun Feb 25, 2018 3:56 am

I'll try both a little later today and give you an update.

The only person who can update the explorer tool is GregKwaste, and nobody had heard from him for about a year. I messaged him right before the release of the game and he hasn't read it. We have to work with what we have, the tool will not get an update.

Re: Custom music and arena music

Sun Feb 25, 2018 5:26 am

Yes, we need a new 2k explorer or maybe a new NBA 2K18 External File Importer that can read audio folders as Modded\newaudio\jukeboxmusic folder, might work.

Re: Custom music and arena music

Sun Feb 25, 2018 7:32 am

Hopefully there's someone who knows how to fix this/ make another tool for this

Re: Custom music and arena music

Sun Feb 25, 2018 10:58 am

So bad news.

I tried importing using explorer, and it doesn't read it the same anymore. The song won't even play. I've tried songs with a size difference and without, doesn't work. It imports like it works (plays the song I imported immediately after importing while the tool is open) but not when the game is on.

Second thing I tried: I tried creating a newaudio folder, and inside of that a jukeboxmusic folder, and after placing the song I wanted with the same file name as the one that's in the game. I tried it as a .wav and .ogg, it doesn't recognize it.

I'm at a loss, without a new tool/refined tool it won't work. I still play 2K17, luckily I can do it all with that game (including arena sounds), I have Montell Jordan's unstoppable play during regular gameplay (like during the game on the court).

I'd I figure out anything I'll let you guys know, I'm not a programmer. I just learned some things by trial and error.

I agree that we need a tool that can read and import audio files, who else should we ask?
I remember when 2K13 had the feature to put your own music and I thought it was very cool, just a suggestion

Hey guys, some good news

We still can not edit the jukebox but we can edit the park jukebox and the sounds and musics of the arenas found in 2Y file :D

Has a huge amount of audio inside that file,
These are two examples
2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\ 003179-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.wav
2Y\newaudio\jukeboxmusic_park\ 000005-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.wav

I replaced C&C Music Factory - Everybody Dance Now (on the 2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\002951-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.wav) for KC and the Sunshine band - That's The way I Like it.
Take a look

So if I wanted to put the Quicken loans arena sounds in I could do that?

Re: Custom music and arena music

Wed Feb 28, 2018 12:14 am

Yes, the sounds are in 2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\
The problem is: how to find a specific sound? because inside 2Y have a thousand of sound files only with numbers on names.

And the numbers, unfortunately, have nothing to do with the team id
For example

2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\0000**** - Philadelphia 76ers
2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\0001**** - Milwaukee Bucks
2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\0002*** - Washington Wizards
2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\0003*** - Chicago Bulls
2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\0004*** - Cleveland Cavaliers
2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\0005*** - Boston Celtics
...

The only way to discover is to extract them and listen one by one :?

One more
Now I replaced the
2Y\newaudio\eventmusic\002957-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000 (Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me) to Redbone - Come and Get Your Love

Is possible to extract all or multiple files at once on 2k explorer??
