Blazers Trade Allen Crabbe To Nets For Andrew Nicholson

The Portland Trail Blazers have traded Allen Crabbe to the Brooklyn Nets for Andrew Nicholson.

The Blazers will waive and stretch Nicholson. According to Bobby Marks, the Blazers will have their luxury tax bill for 17-18 drop from $48.3 million to $4.4 million due to the trade.

Brooklyn signed Crabbe to a four-year, $75 million offer sheet during the 2016 offseason that the Blazers matched. Crabbe has a player option in the 2019 offseason.

Crabbe averaged 10.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists with a PER of 11.6 in 28.5 minutes per game last season. Crabbe hit 44 percent of his three-point attempts.

Good move for the future I guess. Last year they had a ton of money tied up in guys that didn't do much for them.

They got nurkic for barely anything last season so that could pay off this year

In hindsight, they should've just let him walk last year, but at least they're off the hook now.

Allen Crabbe with 75 mil contract. Rose 2.1 contract. Multiple seasons for Crabbe but this is kinda ridiculous. Perhaps will take little while for me to adjust to the new reality.

Still sad Brook-Lin combo is no more in Brooklyn.

Good for the nets. They've been able to acquire some decent talent this off season.

That was a good combo. Sucks Lin hurt his hammy so we couldn't see more of it

Love the trade. Though Allen Crabbe is a relatively young player who isn't terrible, he's not particularly good at anything besides three pointers (and even then he's streaky) and seems to have plateaued. No good paying $18M/year to a guy who's worth $8-10M. I hope Meyers Leonard goes next, even if it costs a pick.

Brooklyn gets a decent bench player who can keep them above the salary floor as they evaluate their young guys, while helping them win a game or two in the process.

That remains to be seen if he's plateaued. Hes out of that usage monster combo in Portland and now in the highest paced offense

It was a good financial move but certainly weakens their already weak bench

Allen Crabbe has no handles in the half court. He is really good at catch and shoot 3s and is a passable defender. Not enough efficiency, production or impact for $19 million/yr.

Glad to get his ass off the team as much as I admired his high 3pt %. I would love to see Evan Turner's mediocre ass off the team as well.

So should portland have matched that contract in the first place?

Or perhaps it's not that bad since he was A RFA but it is since a lot money was given to Turner?

Im not sure about the exact financial situation the Blazers were in last off season but I'm just glad this is rectified.

They decided to keep Crabbe because they were hoping to build upon previous season's playoff performance and didn't want to lose a good young role player in Crabbe. Especially since no free agents give a fuck aboit Portland.

Portland actually got worse last season until Nurkic arrived and Crabbe did not show considerable improvement.
