Blazers trade Mason Plumlee to Nuggets for Nurkic, MEM 1st

RealGM wrote:The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired Jusuf Nurkic and a 2017 first round pick in exchange for Mason Plumlee.

Portland owns three picks in the talent-rich 2017 NBA draft, including its own, Cleveland’s and Memphis’ via the deal with Denver.

Nurkic gives the Blazers a talented offensive player who has more upside on defense.

Plumlee is a more established center whose ability to pass the ball is an ideal complement.

Portland has $130.7 million in guaranteed contracts for the 2017-18 season. Plumlee will be a restricted free agent in the offseason.

Nuggets also getting a 2018 second rounder from the Blazers apparently.

A trade! I love this for Portland. Not gonna move the needle a ton, but getting a first rounder and an okay replacement for a guy we wouldn't re-sign is awesome. Not sure what Denver is thinking - they already have Jokic, who has a similar skillset to Plumlee, but is way better. Maybe he'll be on the move again?

I'm surprised the Nuggets are giving up on Nurkic when he's been playing reasonably well for them. Maybe they just feel there's a logjam with Jokic there, but you'd think they'd try to get something more in return, and not a player who's hardly going to clear said logjam.

Jokic is a beast. nurk is inefficient and turnover prone. seems like denver wanted him gone so bad they included that 1st round pick.

Hot damn, Jokic already is the best center in the league. And his skillset is rather complete whereas other top centers in today's league share common big man flaws.

Nurkic's a big loss considering his upside but he had to go with crazy emergence of Jokic. Win-Win trade for both teams.

Jock-itch suddenly is the biggest steal of the 2014 draft. I think there have been news of attitude problems with Nurkic. Probably it is not sitting well with too that Jokic has replaced him in the starting lineup? idk

Gobert indeed deserves a mention ofc how did I forget about that.

Denver's lucky Jokic's turning out to be a mega star because they were the ones that drafted Gobert but trading him away for 2nd round pick and cash.

^^ Jokic is the best (all around) Center right now. Which is a good thing, since that is the way the NBA is going right now.

Never cared for Plumlee. Not a bad player but just feels like a lame dude. Glad to have Nurkic and another 1st rounder.

Jokic. I think kid's something truly truly truly special. Big man that can defend and score at high efficiency are valuable. This kid is capable of a lot more than that. He can lead the transition and pass truly like a guard. He can fake like Dirk and shoot like semi-Dirk too. He seems to have incredibly high basketball IQ. You are probably seeing one of the best playmaking 5 in making. This kid has superstar written all over him in couple years.

And he's only 21. Only downside is being a Serbian tho. Big minus for dat.

Is jokic what Marc gasol could have been if he wasn't playing in Memphis system? I see a lot of similarities. I am not sold on him defensively but that is just me being highly critical haha

You almost have to asterisk porzingis performance this year due injuries and playing in NYK

We shall see next year. Opinions are swayed easily. Towns was the talk of town and the unibrow was cast aside coming into this year. Now it seems they've swapped places

How about that nurkic? He puts on a blazers uniform and starts playing like jokic

Seriously- the dude is actually passing the ball and scoring efficiently

I tagged on him earlier but credit is due for his play recently

He played excellent last night. His offensive game is better than I thought it was. He showcased it last night.

I'm also really impressed with his passing, and his intensity. This move is looking better and better for POR.

He actually put up similar numbers in Denver whenever he'd start or get some serious minutes. When they started playing jokic his minutes and production went downhill fast

Nurk with 33 points and 16 boards as the Blazers beat the Nuggets to take a one game lead (with the tiebreaker) for the 8 seed. :D

Nice game there

On the other side- Denver can def use a pf that can defend. Portland is tough on the perimeter with those pnr game. Jokic is too slow afarieed faried stunk on his rotations

I'd love to see a Denver vs GSW round matchup

with Nurkic Portland should give them a better series than last year. Portland still has no bench and defensive issues

i like denver's depth and perimeter defenders over what Portland has.

Nurkic when healthy always showed great potential. Glad to see he went to a team that needed a center like him.

Nurkic will miss at least two weeks with a leg fracture

The Portland Trail Blazers announced an MRI revealed big man Jusuf Nurkic suffered a "non-displaced right leg fibular fracture" and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

This is a difficult blow for Nurkic, who has dealt with multiple injury concerns early in his career.

He didn't make his first appearance last season until January because of a slow recovery from surgery for a partially torn left patellar tendon. He then sprained his ankle within his first month of action and experienced soreness in his left knee upon his return to the court. In all, he played in just 32 games in 2015-16.
