I managed to find out what is causing the drop in FPS and stuttering here. As I usually play my carrer in 2K camera, and configured the "Zoom" and "Hight" in a way that I saw the whole court and ended up seeing the whole crowd too, which is behind the opponent's basket. With that the game was taking down FPS. I found the best camera:
Camera = High
Zoom = 3
Height = 8
The other default options.

By doing this I managed to run the game with AA = 8x Crowd = high, only Media People Detail Level = Off option.

But anyway 2K have to check as to finding the very heavy game for what it offers.

Guys, where can I modify the in-game settings of "jay-r"?

It looks like a certain file in the game installation folder even though I can change some settings in that list in the actual game mode.

I cannot find that file. Please let me know that.

Thanks for reading my post.

Got to see the game on PS4 today and while the detail is probably medium to medium high, the frame rate is smooth and stuttering non-existent. I can only put our troubles down to the PC port and having to cater for so many different configs.

Especially when you look at performance in 4K. My 3770@4.1ghz with a GTX 1080 gets about 30-40fps in 4K. The PS4 Pro is going to be running 4K/60fps and it's half the power of my PC.

Here are my 4k settings. it runs pretty smooth constant 60fps except cutscenes. my culprit was the media (i have it turned off). also certain special effects (I really don't notice the difference in 4k except the depth of field. maybe others will. But it's fine for me)

Another tweak I just added: set ENHANCEDAA = 0
that gave me a noticeable fps bump

As far as I can tell FULLSCREEN WINDOWED MODE is needed but now ingame AA seems to be good. Jayr feel free to post your opinion whenever you can.

is this after the last patch (1.05) or after using Syncinatti's settings?

After 1.05

I see no performance improvements :( Fullscreen Windowed is esential to get OK FPS, but I still have to keep my AA to 1. Even when I do this, there are some cutscenes which have visibile fps drops. My rig should run the game maxed out.

You are right. Nothing has changed. BTW force MFAA and FXAA through Nvidia CP.

patch 1.05 has made no improvements video settings wise and the video settings for stutter-less game remain the same ;)

First of all, thanks for your settings.

After I apply that to my game, it becomes so much smoother!!

But I experience a small problem.

The timing control bar of free throw becomes invisible.

Does anyone of you have this?

If it is solved, my 2K17 will be perfect!!! ^^

Thanks for reading my post.

airjung2k, I've encountered any issues with the visibility of timing control, so its probably a random glitch you are having.

By the way, I have missed out on this new feature by Nvidia called Fast Sync (available under Vsync options in nvidia control panel). Later today I will have to test it out and see how it works with nba 2k17. Gotta try to force Fast Sync in nvidia control panel while disabling the in game Vsync mode.

What is NVIDIA Fast Sync?
phpBB [video]

Nvidia Pascal Fast-Sync: Guide for Older Generations
phpBB [video]

The latest Nvidia driver allows my 980 GTX to have fast sync, and it's a game changer. Hooked up to my TV I can now game in 1080p @ 80 FPS with zero tearing. It's totally badass. It's like getting Free Sync without the need for an AMD Freesync display.

Same here but with my GTX 1060.
I always loathed playing on my TV due to the tearing but with Fast Sync it's totally gone an I honestly can't feel the input lag, at least with a controller!

In short – this feature eliminates input lag which Vsync causes (Y) and eliminates screen tearing which was always the case when you disabled Vsync and FPS ran over 60fps on 60hz monitor.(Y)

Tried it (Fast Sync) in all sorts of combinations (Nvidia control panel -> Vertical Sync set to Fast, Triple Buffering – OFF; in game video settings: Vsync: OFF, Buffer count @1/2/3) but Fast Sync simply does not work with NBA 2k17 as it does in other games I’ve tested so far like Battlefield 1, Battlefield 3, GTA5 and FIFA 17.

One thing is for sure – NBA 2K17 has some sort of non-standard vertical sync as such since the game runs different depending where and how you chose to enable Vertical Sync – game runs worse when you have Vertical Sync enabled both in Nvidia Control Panel and in in- game video settings, but it runs smoother when you set Nvidia Control Panel Vertical Sync to “Use 3-D application setting” (although it should be the same!)

Nonetheless this testing of Fast Sync helped me fine-tune NBA 2K17 settings even further. Changing “Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames” from “Use 3-D application setting” to “1” reduce input lag and the overall performance seems to be even smoother.

seanbarkley wrote:Hey guys don't know if you tried this, but my gameplay is really smooth with this settings:
- Turn v-sync off in game and in Nvidia CP.
- Cap FPS to 60 with MSI afterburner
Have to say that the game is really demanding. My 1080 load is around 80-90% during cut scenes @ 1440p

seanbarkley, do you still use this combination of settings (Vsync OFF both in NCP and in game) with cap set @60FPS ? What about Triple Buffering - Off in NCP and Set to 1 under video Buffer Count settings ? You get 100% smooth image throughout the whole game (gameplay, cut-scenes, halftime dunk show, replays) ?

That is the case with pre rendered frames in today's games. Setting it to 1 works in most cases very well.

Finally fixed the stuttering!

My goodness, it's like night and day now with how smooth the game moves.

The secret?

FAST_TEXTURE_FORMAT_CONVERSION = 1

Even though I have an Nvidia 1080, the game was stuttering like crazy but after lots of testing I've finally found that changing fast texture format conversion from the default 0 to 1 it has changed the game completely.

Please post your full video settings.

I'll now try to see whether FAST_TEXTURE_FORMAT_CONVERSION @1 allows to change MSAA from 0 to 8 while maintaining stutter-less game;)

Not sure of everyone's system setup but some of you have some really low quality Nvidia control panel settings that really affect image quality in games. If you have the power, go for it!
I Also don't think the game benefits much at anything 1080p and above in terms of in-game anti-aliasing. Depending on your settings, that can kill your fps more than anything.

But yes, with the "FAST_TEXTURE_FORMAT_CONVERSION = 1" setting now at 1, I have absolutely zero stutter. I love it.

Nope doesn't change quality.

From what I can tell, the other setting uses the CPU to convert compressed textures. But if you have a decent video card, it seems to work better having the GPU do this.

All I can think is with the CPU doing it, there more latency, thus the stuttering.
