The Game is Getting Foul

Sat Oct 15, 2016 4:15 pm

It's the fourth season (29 game seasons) of CPU vs CPU play (play CPU v CPU for all Bulls games). Prior to the 3rd season the Bulls star Center averaged 3 FPG. During the 3rd season he is fouling out every other game, averaging 24 MPG because of all his foul trouble.

His foul tendency is 0. I tried turning his blocking down to 0, on ball defense to 0, contest jumpers to 0. It's to no avail. He's now a fouling machine.

More info: The Bulls are averaging 14.8 fouls per game, which is lowest in the league.

This star Center is averaging 4.9 fouls per game. That's up from 2.9, 3.3, and 3.1 the previous 3 seasons. His minutes per game is down from 30 last season (40 minute games).

Was there a foul adjustment in the last patch. Fouls in played games are low team-wise, but this guy's fouling is out of control.

If you are seeing these results maybe it has to do with some rating. I thought tendencies only affected in game action. I'm just guessing here

No, it's been complained about. Outrageous foul calls in the paint. Players will go up with a stationary 6-7 foot post shot and the defense will hammer them for some reason. First thing I would try is the contact and foul sliders.

Is this something new? Like I mentioned, it has only started happening after three seasons.

I turned shooting foul down to 50. But fouling in general is already low.

I don't think it's new. I have only been playing mycareer, but I could almost predict the fouls. You could try foul and collision slider modifications and see if it helps.

I found with the Center in question he had the Bruiser badge. I disabled that badge. He hasn't fouled out for 5 games.

Now that's I'm looking, however, I do see that most of the fouls are those under the basket fouls out of nowhere. There are hardly any other fouls.

After monitoring more games it's clear the problem persists even without the bruiser badge and with foul sliders at 40.

Team fouls, the total number of fouls per game, are low, but inside shooting fouls are high. The Bulls star center has fouled out 1 game in the last 10, but his minutes are limited by foul trouble in every game. He's averaging under 24 minutes per game (40 min games). He's had 2-3 fouls in the first quarter 9 out of the last 10 games.

Sometimes he stands there with his hands at his sides. There's still a foul.

I think the place that these fouls occur may be accurate as most fouls do occur in the paint close to the basket since that is where most collisions on shots occur. However, the context of these fouls in the game make them look like forced calls to meet a frequency.

My guess is that collision animations are forced at times. However, we need to look at the free throw ratings, too. This could be a strategic part of the AI defense like " no layups" or something.

Did you try turning down the collision slider?

I can verify that this is because of the bruiser badge.
I hade the same problem and removed the badge and now I get a lot more realistic fouls.

Some people on OS forums, me included, believe that the badges ruins the game.
Try to remove every badge from the players, except maybe the personality ones, and you will get a far better gaming experience.
Atleast that is how I feel.. maybe it's a placebo effect... :D

i wonder about some of the badges myself. for one, i've removed the rim protector badge and just let the block rating do it's thing... it seems to me that the badge overdoes it on some blocks and make it seem pretty arcad-ish.

also, the steal badge coupled with a high steal rating is so op, haha.

Removing Bruiser Badge helps a little bit. but if someone guards a good offensive player, especially PF or C, they're fouling out.

I have Lakers vs Bulls in the finals. Both teams have strong offensive and defensive centers. Through 4 finals games, both centers have fouled out by mid 4th quarter every game.

It's also possible that substitutions have something to do with it. Are players being pulled when they are in foul trouble?

Yes, sometimes players aren't pulled with 2 fouls in the 1st quarter. I've even seen this center remaining in the game with 3 and 4 fouls in the first quarter. The team has a backup center and, in fact, the starting PF is a center too, with a backup PF waiting in the wings.

But missing significant time with foul trouble is part of the problem. Big men foul too often, and they continue to aggressively go at defenders under the basket even when in foul trouble.

Sometimes I see the Bulls starting center pull back when he's in foul trouble. He'll stand aside or even put his hands cupped in front of his groin, like taking a charge stance, instead of trying for a block. He still fouls out too often, as constantly in foul trouble, as is any center on teams the Bulls play against.

I wonder what other factors are in play. If the big men are the main ones getting in foul trouble, there could be an issue with help defenders not collapsing hard enough to even make a defensive play. Maybe the contest shots tendency has something to do with it as well.

Bruiser badge is about scoring inside, so that's not a factor.

Removing Enforcer badge helped, but after a few games it went back the the center fouling out or getting in foul trouble every game.

I'm using the shady sliders. Defensive assist is low, so I turned it up to 100 to see what happens.

Re: The Game is Getting Foul

In two games with defensive assist at 100, both starting centers fouled out both games.

Changing Shooting Fouls to 0 had no effect. There are still the same number of those under the basket ticky tack fouls and maulings - they're called shooting fouls in the game text "shooting foul, so and so".

I was wrong with my report about foul situation with shooting fouls at 0. With SF at 0, there are almost no fouls. Other foul types, even with those sliders at 100, are hardly every called.

For now, I will turn Foul Out off. That way, using Shady Mike's sliders, there are a reasonable number of fouls, but the foul trouble and foul out problem is gone. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

Ideally I'd like to turn foul out up to something like 10, but 6 is the max. If there's a way to turn it up, maybe using cheatengine or something similar, please let me know.

Have you tried other sliders? Lowering contest shots in the past has helped with this, but can lead to higher percentage. Try lowering inside collisions as well.

Re: The Game is Getting Foul

Mon Oct 24, 2016 2:04 pm

I tried a number of games with lowered Contest Shots and Inside Contact Shot Frequency. The shot percentages go up too much, and fouls go down further. But the big centers (Bulls and Lakers starting centers) still got in early foul trouble and fouled out a lot.

I tried with a different center - injured the center so the backup started. He fouled out four games in a row.

I'm sticking with foul out off.

The AI seems really weird about this this year.

A coaching setting to handle pulling players in foul trouble would be nice.

It's a problem with 2k17. You can pass the ball to the post player and all you have to do is push toward the basket and shoot. You get a foul call everything. I was playing against the Kings and Cousins got 3 fouls in the first 2 min.

I think iam getting tired of this game already, must be a record for me but the enjoyment level is so hit and miss with so many gameplay issues and cheese from the cpu I think I need to just put down the controller for a while.
