Gaming Resources & Discussions for NBA 2K17

Wed Sep 14, 2016 11:20 am

This is inspired by our Modding Discussion thread, which is a great preliminary discussion to have as well, and something I encourage the modding community to get involved with. However, there's something else I wanted to address before NBA 2K17 came out: talking about the game itself, sharing tips and tricks, and creating resources centred around gameplay.

While our modding community has continued to do some fantastic work - even facing the challenges that have come with the PS4/X1 port the past couple of years - we've seen a big drop off in people just talking about the games. Even though we've still got a lot of active members, I'm seeing less people talking about the game after it's released, except in regards to modding. Now, I certainly want everything to keep going strong on the modding front, but I'd also like to see us getting back to sharing our experiences with the game, and discussing gameplay-related topics.

Obviously, we're going to share impressions, marvel at things we find cool, and complain about problems. That's a given, and that still happens every year. However, I'd like to see us point out features that other people might've missed, and talk about noteworthy experiences we've had. It's been a while since we've come together as a community to produce any kind of strategy guides, tips and tricks for earning Badges, and things like that. Back in the day, we not only had our modding resources for NBA Live (and later NBA 2K), but also lists of Freestyle Superstars and Go To Moves, general hints and tips, and so on and so forth. I'd like to revive those discussions and resources.

Again, I'm not trying to downplay modding, as I definitely want us to do some great work in that area, as our community so often does. However, we're not just a modding community, but a gaming community. Presumably, most of us are spending a lot of time playing these games, so there should be lots to talk about, and good advice that we can give one another.

With that in mind, I thought I'd create this thread not only to encourage everyone to talk about anything and everything related to their experiences with NBA 2K17, but also to brainstorm some ideas for gameplay resources such as strategy guides and the like. We know our basketball games around these parts, and we're certainly passionate about them. Let's have some great discussions this year, and share both our knowledge and experiences with one another.

No problem, felt it was similarly important to put it out there this year. I want us to have basketball games covered in detail, in every way possible.

If you want 2k strategy guides then look no further than Sam Pham on youtube. Dude is a 2k wizard. Very smart. I'll post any videos here that stand out to me for 2k17.

Sounds good to me, but I'm all for pooling our collective knowledge and creating some great resources as well.

You can't upload custom teams themselves, but you can upload/ download custom team branding.

I love watching Da_Czar's videos. Very nice.

The in the paint game and points in the paint sure have improved over the last few years.

Anyone here bothered by the 2K17 foul system? I always accidently bump into my opponent who's guarding me while i'm dribbling, and somehow its a charge foul and turnover for me. And the slightest bump in the paint always result in foul. I lost count how many times my center was fouled out because actually trying to defend the paint. And of course, 70% of the foul in the paint always result in an and-one. It's really frustrating to play lock down defense.

I like the new steal system though. For once, we have to think strategically to steal the ball. I have 2 steal a game playing as a point guard with 60 steal attributes. I don't know if many people know this, but attempting the steal with the analog instead with the square (or maybe X on X-Box?) have been more sucessful to me. Swipe to the left if you wants to steal with the left hand, or swipe to the right if you want it to do with the right hand. If the offensive player try to do hesitation move with the ball in his right hand, i always tries to steal with my left hand (cause their right is my left), and i always often got a steal. Another thing you should really pay attention though, you can easily steal the ball after the opposite teams got the offensive rebound. Usually, if they're not tipping back the ball, the offensive rebounder will always bring the ball down first before attempting the lay-up. When the ball is at their waist, swipe it and you will almost instantly got a steal. One of the most easiest steal is when you press the steal button at the same time as the person you're guarding is receiving the ball from a pass.

Well, i guess that's my tips on stealing the ball. Already got my bronze pick pocket badge, and a bronze defensive stopper badge, so trust me on this lol.

I've mostly been using the button to steal, and had 10 steals in my last MyCAREER game, but I might also give the right stick stealing a shot.

There's definitely an issue with cheap offensive foul calls that should be non-calls, or blocking fouls if anything.
