Face in the game not working?

Postby Rodzilla91 on Sun Aug 28, 2016 7:11 am

Got 2000 to run after awhile. But face in the game doesn't save. It shows up and all but once I save the player it goes back to a generic face. Any reason?

It worked for me when I wrote an article about it for Wayback Wednesday. Where do you have the game installed? Are you running it with admin privileges? If the game is installed in the Program Files folder in Windows Vista or later, it could be a permissions issues, since that's where the custom face data is saved.

No idea, then. As I said, it worked fine for me, and I haven't made any alternate preparations, nor am I doing anything out of the ordinary.

So yours saved and you had no issue? You could play the game and have it working? I'll try it in a bit again

Hey, and uh, what are ALL the tools needed for Live 2000's modding? Like graphics, and roster, unless roster is manually done through the game? I'm just curious cause it would be cool to try my hand at modding, but if you don't remember off the top of your head I could look around.

EA Graphics Editor, for editing any uniform/cyberface/logo.

There also existed some tutorials for NBA Live 2000 at NLSC Wiki IIRC

Most of the roster editing is done in-game, just like other versions of NBA Live. The Toolkits are still available in the Downloads section, but I don't think they'll work with versions of MS Access later than 2000. However, you can use DB Commander to edit the databases; guides to the fields and values can be found in the Wiki.

Use OpenOffice instead of DB Commander 2000.

It's such an useful tool for dbf files, also much better than MS Office. And it's FREE!

I've never had any issues with DB Commander, but OpenOffice is another alternative, yes.

If you are using the Toolkit though, it's an Access module that requires Office 97 or Office 2000.

Yeah, it seems like the old NBA live tools require MS Access 97

Is MS Access 97 abandonware?

Not as far as I'm aware, old as it may be. I'd suggest using DB Commander, DBF Viewer Pro, OpenOffice, or another program that can open DBF files. It's a bit more complicated than the Toolkit, but that's what the guides in the Wiki are for, and it's fairly straightforward once you're familiar with the databases. Most roster editing should be done in-game anyway, to minimise the risk of messing up the databases. The only reason to externally edit files is to modify data you can't access from within the game.

Thanks. Kind of surprising it may not be abandonware as old as it is and outdated. Not a problem though. I have a question related to modding though. Were any live 00 mods more than just graphical? Like mods that changed the gameplay or of that nature? I'm curious and asking this because well all those ugly bright angelfire and hosts of the like pages are down so I have almost no idea how NBA Live mods were of that point in time except for what's on the downloads right now that you saved..

Mostly just rosters and graphics, from memory.

Ah.

2000 is pretty fun at least when I was playing it. But man that jumpshot is uuuuglee. and I haven't paid too much attention to learn the controls so I can't really get to the hoop at all. Then the computers kill you in the paint

It depends a little on the difficulty level, but the CPU is very susceptible to shot fakes, which leave the lane open. They also tend to fake two or three times themselves when they drive into the paint, so don't bite on the first couple, and you can get the block.
