Talk about NBA 2K17 here.

The poll is there for anyone who wants to give an opinion with a couple of clicks, but that said, are you pre-ordering (or have you already pre-ordered) one of the editions of the game?
I haven't placed my pre-order yet, but I'll be doing so soon. I obviously get the games every year so that I can cover them for the site, and I'd also like to be able to play with the Dream Team, so I'll put my money down. I'm opting for the standard version, because I'm not a big Kobe fan, and about the only thing I'm interested in apart from the Dream Team is extra VC to give my MyPLAYER an immediate boost. It'd probably be more economical to get a good deal on a pre-order, and drop some money on some VC, so that's what I figure I'll do. For what it's worth, the Legend Edition Gold version is around $150 AUS. I know there's an MJ MyTEAM card in that version, but it's a Free Agent card, so it'll be gone after a few games anyway.
The thing is, I'm getting the game because I'm running a website that covers it, but at present, I'm not that hyped for NBA 2K17. Any legacy issues aside, I expect I'll be able to get enjoyment out of the gameplay, and I do like what I've read about league expansion in MyLEAGUE and MyGM. However, with very little information or previews six weeks out from release, it's hard to get all that excited. I'm sure that stuff is coming very soon, but as I mentioned in a recent Monday Tip-Off article, I miss the days when juicy previews started around the Draft, and continued steadily through to the release.
What's everyone else's hype level like at this point in time, a little over a month away from release?
Wed Aug 10, 2016 1:18 am
Not really hyped due to the lack of info as well.
However, I did preorder. For the simple reason that I've found a great preorder deal (40€ for the XB1 std version). Otherwise, I wouldn't have.

Yeah, I'm kind of getting a bit worried to be honest. 2K are known for being late on releasing news but not this late, I mean it's just under 40 days from the pre-order early release and we barely know anything about it.
A lot of people say the reason why is because NBA Live 17 is releasing in 2017 so there is no competition when it comes to releasing news, but holy shit what is up with this company? How much are they really going to change with this game? My hype for this game is slowly decreasing as the days pass by without any news.
Probably still going to end up pre-ordering though.

With their track record and my general satisfaction with NBA 2K over the course of the last few years, I'm personally not too worried, but I'm also a little unimpressed that most of the preview season has been spent hyping up the pre-order bonuses. I'm also not thrilled that the Dream Team is a pre-order exclusive, but that's another topic altogether.
I doubt that the lack of news or previews indicates any problems with the game, or lack of effort in the modes or anything, but I'd like to be really looking forward to the game at this point. That's hard to do when you still barely know nothing about it.

To me, all the marketing or lack of marketing has forced everyone to focus more on the pre order aspect. I think that is a win for 2K. A lot of videos on youtube have complained about lack of info but they always mention something about pre-ordering. Not sure if this was intended or not.
5 years ago all this talk about pre ordering or not pre ordering would have been a non conversation. Basicly 2K has succeeded in making conversation about pre orders the focus rather than actual game info being the focus. Just look, this thread is about pre orders. It puts the idea in your mind. In the past i didn't even care about discussing a pre order.
Maybe I'm wrong but that is my conclusion.
I want to preorder this year so i can download early on steam but I wasn't impressed enough to buy 2k15 or 2k16, so I'm not sure how i can justify buying 2k17. I really hope the game is what i have been waiting for because i bought a new gaming pc mainly to play nba 2k but so far im slightly disappointed in this generation of nba 2k. Maybe its a better gen for consoles due to customization, but I dont think it is for people like me who like to play and mod.

"With their track record and my general satisfaction with NBA 2K ..."
The track record is fluff additions without meaningful game play updates.
"Yeah, but now there are accurate wrist bands! There are Euro teams. Look at the new menus!"
Buying a car: "Hey, how is the engine?"
Salesman "Check out this decal we put on the door!"
Customer: "OK, but are the brakes good?"
Salesman "We hung these dice on the mirrors!"
Customer "What kind of gas mileage does it get?"
Fanboy Customer "Hey, check out those dice and that decal! WOW! This is a terrific car!"

One improvement that I can mention off the top of my head - having played NBA 2K13 again last night for an upcoming feature - is the shot meter/shooting mechanics, particularly in NBA 2K16. We have a much better cue as to the optimum release point these days. It's greatly improved free throw shooting, and made jumpshots the viable offensive weapon they should be. EA did something similar with NBA Live 16, and it was very refreshing to see. At the same time, there are definitely notable legacy issues that I hope are resolved, because it's been more than a couple of games for some of them.

I hear you bro. We're in the same boat. Because I can't mod and change the game to my liking, it gets old really quick. 30 teams, HA!!!, that's nothing (of course excluding retro, euro, and other). Question: so who are we going to play against when we pick the Dream Team? Retro, to me, is really a joke with this current generation. I have no hype for 2K17, but it'll be nice to play something new (for about 30-45, then back to 2K14). Lol

I'm hoping I could build a pc since I love to mod. I also like it as I will get it a little bit early. Just note I come from a low end ten year old computer that barely runs 2k14 at like 24-30 frames and spikes a lot. The only problem is multiplayer as we all know we won't have many people playing this on steam, but I hope some of us could maybe do something together in the future like pro-am or anything

Not sure what you mean by that. I mean, there's only 30 NBA teams, and as long as that's the case, there's only ever going to be in an NBA game, excluding bonus content such as the Euroleague, historical, and now international teams. Of course, they've added league expansion to MyGM and MyLEAGUE this year, so you can go up to a total of 36 teams if you want.
RICH72601 wrote:Question: so who are we going to play against when we pick the Dream Team?
2016 Team USA, and other national squads, I imagine. Or anyone else you care to play against.

On thing that will get a for sure pre-order from me is the ability to create teams outside of any game mode other than play now.
This way we can create teams and share the rosters prior to starting MyLeague/ MyGM.
Correct me if I'm wrong but as is, if we create 36 teams in MyLeague we can't share the MyLeague file only the created team template. So if we create a few retro or fictional teams, we can't share the players, ratings, rotations, and coach settings. I guess the work-around for that is to create all the players you want and put them as FAs then share your roster and share your team templates and let the downloader re-create each fictional / retro team.

That's right, at least as I understand it. We can share those assets to easily create the teams, but not everything set up and ready to go.

I always wait till it goes on sale at least 30%.

Is this legit, anyone? Just activated my very first paypal account and I might as well order an online cd key instead of the usual cd-key in a box bought in a local store.
Did anyone buy from this website before?
To be on topic, I am preordering the game one or two weeks before the release. I try to find the best offer. I trust NBA2k's quality.

I'll wait closer to release and then buy the cheapest Key I can find, Standard Edition obviously. Last Year I bought a "Russian" Key from GMG for like 23€, which was a normal RoW Key. So I expect it to be the same way this Year. 2K just does not give a fuck about the PC-Version, so they don't even bother with Regionlocks.

Loved a lot of 2k16's gameplay improvements; hope there's more. Excited about the Dream Team re-introduction into the game. Excited about the POSSIBILITY of FIBA play--but that hasn't necessarily been officially introduced yet--which is baffling--seems like DURING the Olympics would be a good time to put that out there to receive international excitement for the game, if nothing else. Plus, if its just a handful of FIBA teams in the Play Now mode, and you can't set up a FIBA tournament, that's going to be quite disappointing, cause there's no reason that shouldn't be possible. Also, if they don't actually include REAL FACES for ALL of the FIBA players, then don't bother--unless they greatly improved their Create-A-Caveman, er, I mean Create-A-Player engine...
I'd love to see more care given to Euroleague players & play... Again, this is because of the garbage of a C-A-P engine. See The Sims 4 for how to correctly build a C-A-P engine...
Excited about the Expansion capabilities. VERY glad that Playoff Mode is back...
I will definitely order the Standard Edition, cause I want the Dream Team and could give two shits less about all of that other junk, cause I don't do MyCareer or any of those other modes.

The funny thing is there was actually a region lock for the in game servers until like Patch 5, so they are acknowledging that people are buying the CD Keys off these websites and know people hate having to use VPN's. Honestly that's the opposite of laziness but I know what you mean

PeacemanNot, i'm seeing you all over the internet these days. Reddit ( I think), OS, youtube and here of course. Maybe you are like me and really want 2K17 to a classic.

Well I don't really use Operation Sports that much but yeah man, I really want the new gen version of the game to be great. I still every now and then hop on NBA 2K11 to play my MyPlayer and Association on my PS3 just to get a feel of the old games. It's funny I say old when it was only released like 6 years ago.... time flies. I would imagine for a lot of you time has even flown by more. I hear Andrew talking about NBA Live 03 and some of their retro games, when I was only 4 years old
I feel like 2K16 was huge jump in the right direction though and they're so close to making a brilliant game. Stuff like a simple MyCareer yet still be really riveting and refreshing to play, Create a Team so making modded rosters is easier, adding the little things in MyGm (Expansion Teams were a great addition and makes me wonder what else have they added in MyGM).
Obviously the lack of news is a bit worrying for me but I'm sure it will all come out soon enough. Hopefully my hype will increase as we get closer to the release.

I dont see any reason to preorder a game without nowing any new. We are in the middle of August and almost we dont now anything. Pre-order a game just for the cover and some stupid bonus? No thanks gameplay first, then reviews and then if worth the money we talking...

you will have all that a week or two before release, they do this every year, I don't know why people are panicking
Sat Aug 13, 2016 5:41 pm
I'm not sure that anyone is panicking, so much as feeling underwhelmed and less hyped than they'd like at this juncture.

I never saw the point of pre-ordering games unless you were getting some sort of free bonus to do so.
I did play 2K16 because I got it for free, but I don't know if I'd be completely satisfied had I paid $60 for it. But then again, there's not a whole lot of games that can hold my attention nowadays. Ten years ago, I would've been all over it. For me that $60 without knowing if I'll like the game is a big gamble
