I really don't like Phil Jackson as a GM, he was a great coach but I don't think he has what it takes in today's league to run a front office, I kind of feel like he expects other teams to just respect who he is and what he's done and roll over for him.

He got lucky with KP but all his other moves just haven't panned out.

That's why Knick fans are so frustrated here Andrew. WHERE is the plan??? We still don't have a coach!

Cynical as it may be to suggest, the plan would seem to be to hire someone who will be a puppet for him - ie, promoting Rambis and removing the interim tag - while making a token effort to at least appear as though other candidates are being considered. That way, he can say "Well, we looked around, but it turns out the best option was already in our ranks." The trouble is, I don't think many people will buy that, and they certainly should be questioning it.

It's also possible that he's already checked out.

Hinkie got the Sixers future draft picks and cap space, Jackson got Rambis and the triangle for the Knicks.

Not only does Phil not even really look at top coaches but I feel that his obsession with the triangle puts off coaches from wanting to come here because they know that Phil will have a huge impact on the way they coach.

If he wants the triangle ran then he should coach himself or just get over this outdated system already.

Co-sign, but it's really looking like Rambis will be the coach. Phil wants a puppet who'll carry out his wishes.

I agree with you; for all his faults, I'll take Melo over Rambis. He may not be a true franchise player you can build around, but I'd say that he's better than a lot of people give him credit for, and far more likely to be a valuable piece of the puzzle than having Rambis on the sideline.

Carmelo isn't Batman, he's Robin. He's not a take-charge alpha-dog leader like Lebron or Kobe. But he'll have success if he can partner with that type of player.

His two best years he played with Chancey Billups and Jason Kidd. Kidd had lost a step, but he didn't lose his basketball I.Q. or leadership skills.

Hopefully in the next couple of years KP can be the "the guy" the main focus allowing Melo to be the number 2 or play the true Robin role.

I just think the Knicks aren't going anywhere relevant any time soon. Even with Melo & a competent coach they aren't really a championship team imo. Wouldn't Knicks fans want the team to find a suitable destination for Melo and just try to build a solid foundation with KP and some other young pieces?

When word got out Carmelo was seriously thinking about Chicago, Phil blinked. That was his biggest mistake (aside from Fisher).

But we'll never know if the no-trade clause was Jackson's decision alone, or Dolan not wanting to lose his star player.

Either way we only rebuild when Melo decides now which like you said was another bad move signing him to a near max 5 year deal which may or may not of been a mix of Phil and Dolan but the signings of O'Quinn/Sasha/Seaphin/Afflalo/Lou that's on Phil and then to sign and barley play Williams/Grant and to also go out and Sign Jimmer who's biggest knock is defence then say... The kid doesn't play D... followed by signing an injured Tony Wroten who we won't even know what he can do till training camp, that's all pretty messed up when you think that he also signed Fisher to coach and is now very focused on Rambis.

look at that nugget roster. it was stacked- Nene and Kmart were still healthy and a strong bench. lost a tough series to a superior opponent

i think it was lip service. NYK gave him a chance at the biggest contract he can get at the time. i don't think he was going to pass that up and i don't blame him

Absolutely. He's not wrong about D'Antoni, and the front office has a lot to answer for, but let's not pretend that he wasn't unprofessional himself.

I hope that's an internet rumor, but it sounds like a typical dumbass Knick move - going after injured, past-their-prime players.

I'm not sure either team can really benefit from a Rose swap. I'd suggest they both look at other options, slim though they may be.
