Official NBA 2K16 Impressions Thread

Talk about NBA 2K16 here.

What is the deal with all the travelling violations? Seems like if you don't shoot at the top of your jump, they call travelling. This wasn't nearly as prevalent in 2K15. Did they change the way you're suppose to shoot the ball?

It seems there are more dribble into the back court and dribble out of bounds than in 2K15.

I told you, it was the same with 15. If you can't release the ball, that's going to be travelling or jumping violation.

EDIT: Nah, not going down to that path again.

This is why I turn off commentary.

It's a 29 game season myleague. The Bulls played the 76'ers once last season. Bulls won the game. Prior to the game against the 76'ers, Ernie says something like "the 76'ers were swept by the Bulls last season, losing all three games."

They didn't play three games.

If memory serves they do tend to update the commentary (slightly) as the year goes on but we I guess there is only so much audio they can record.

For PC this game is huge garbage. I dont know how it is on consoles but PC version dont worth 10€ max. Stuttering, colliding players, often guy that I am playing glues on opponent and stuck on him for few seconds, also opponents get some boost in 4 quarter and dont miss or my players get some debuff and even I lead by 20, I lose at the end by 1. Passing often ends in opponent hands even I use icon pass. Music stops after played match, sometimes game reverts controlls. Cheaters and hackers, mypark is full of them. Stuttering oh my god, every cutscene between quarters stutter, ending highlights stutters. Also if you won away game, highlights from player of the game, crowd is gone even tough highlighted action is from first quarter. So many bug that have been copy pasted from 2k15. Online play, horrible as always, lag lag lag. Every year game feels like it is open beta test and every year it is worse.

2k and visual concept decived many players by advertising and creating hype about this game and at the end it is huge garbage. Decived for my career story, Spike Lee talked about choices, choices, choices, there are no such thing in this game. Everything is predefined and it is bad. Game was released 2 weeks ago and now they are working on cross platform patch  that they will relase by the end of the year, based on past experiences. And in february or march hype train will start about 2k17 and mark my words that it will be same crap like this, it will be full of bugs because copy paste is fastest and cheapest and visual concept like to do it. Also Ronnie2k and LD2k will start creating hype and after release they cant be found anywhere.

As I have said before 99% of the issues seem to be with pc's but I guess that is because everyone has a different setup.

You cant defend them for issues that were in last year release and that repeats in this year. Two years in a row same bugs? Did I mentioned no keyboard support for pc game? How to call that? They are lazy and greedy, 2k and visual concept. They care more to earn from selling VCs than to fix this mess.

Oh I am not defending them, just happier I have it on the ps4 instead!

I agree with you that if they bring the game out on the pc then you would think there wouldn't be so many bugs surrounding it.

They are bunch of lazy slackers. Porting game have never been easier and they slack always. They should make real beta tests before release, better that than theirs testers which I highly doubt they even try the game because bugs are obvious in first 5 minutes of a match.

"If memory serves they do tend to update the commentary (slightly) as the year goes on but we I guess there is only so much audio they can record."

They cannot update it enough to keep fresh with ongoing franchises. In this case, it's not even that. It's that they didn't take into account the number of times teams play each other in a 29 game season.

Commentary often has the opposite of the desired effect. The repetitive player interviews, the repetitive commentary, the incorrect commentary: it works together to destroy immersion.

Been playing 2K11 for the past 5 years, so this is my first try at a new game.

2K16 is alright, but I'd go back to 2K11 if I had updated rosters. The overall presentation, music, playcalling is better in the older game - plus I like Isomotion.

It is tougher getting to the rim in 2K16 which is cool. But there's too much sliding - and why does my center leave the post to guard outside shooters?

It's a shame I have to listen to even a second of the pre-game blather from the announcers.

Five games into a 29 game season, about one month into the season, the image of Ernie sats "...at the mid way point..."

It's not the mid way point of the season as far as the calendar or games played.

Another odd one is this.

Durant hits a three.

Bulls miss a shot.

OKC misses a shot.

The announcer talk is something about some player's long strides.

Bulls make a shot.

Announcer (paraphrasing) "Durant hits a three."

More ridiculously bad commentary.

It's the 2019-2020 season in MyLeague. Roy Hibbert is the backup center in Los Angeles. I placed a young Kareem on that team to start the MyLeague. The center on my team, the Bulls, was drafted in 2016. He leads the league in scoring for centers and rebounds with 17.3 per game. Kareem is second in rebounds and second in scoring for centers.

Pre-game commentary for the Bulls v. Lakers game: "Tonight we'll be keeping an eye on Roy Hibbert. He's arguably the best center in the league."

An aging backup center isn't arguably the best center in the league.

This is still a major problem, and I cant find a fix for it. Big guys going out to guard shooters and leaving the opposing teams big guy WIDE open under the basket. Most of the time he goes out there for no reason. It's really frustrating.

Also, the computer players on both teams get backdoored so easy. It happens every game.

I play on hall of fame, it should be better especially on the best AI level.

Go to defensive settings or whatever that section is called (where you can edit the pressure put on the opposing players when on/off ball, the hedge you use etc.) and scroll down to the "switch" option. By default, that option is set to "Switch all". You can set it to "Guards only", to have only your guards switch defenders, or you can turn off for good. Also, I suggest setting your double team sections from "manual" to "auto", it gives your players a way better defensive IQ.

Sorry if my terms from above are not exactly as you can find them in game, but you should easily find what I am talking about.

Backdoor cuts can't be fixed. Those are the easiest baskets I can ever get in 2k16. When the AI is giving one of my players a tight defense and all of his body is on my player, I use the backdoor cut button and that's pretty much it, I get an open lay-up or dunk.

Try using Greg's sliders though, they make a big difference

Hey, sorry I just saw this.

I tried it, and it makes a slight difference, thank you. However, computer players get backdoored SO OFTEN that it still stinks. It's almost like the computer gets stuck in the mud, or gets stuck in a foot plant motion.

ive been playing 2k since 13 and i stopped playing mycareer around 17 i think.
I like most 2k games (playing myleague) except 18 which is unplayable to me.

Anyway my favourite game has got to be 16, to me thats the best one, maybe 14 as a close second for the title.
i know 11 and 12 are up there with a lot of players but for starting out on 13 (but having bought 11 and 12 for my 360) its not quite the same.

been on xbox all along, but ive just bought a gaming pc and got hold off a NBA 2k16 copy and wow!
the differnce between the console version and the pc version is monumental.
not only does it look great but animations are so much better.
cant believe how much difference it is between the two.

2k23 will be the first 2k game i wont be buying tbh (at least for now) i get all the sim basketball i need from the pc version of 16.
Any pointers on mods/etc that i should download?
Sorry if this post looks a bit weird, but typing english on a swedish keyboard makes it that way.
