[13-4] Tanklandia | MONTHLY RECAP!!!!!

Postby Lamrock on Sun Jul 05, 2015 6:34 am

Gonna start a new one of these once free agency dies down and I can find a good roster. Updates may be sporadic and less involved than in the past, as it seems most have moved on from this kind of thing. Felt like doing something "creative" though!

Will be doing 5 minute quarters (normalized to 6) and probably 29 games. Real draftees and maybe NLSC'ers in 2016 - fictional and NLSC thereafter. I may pro-rate all of the stats to 82 games and 12 minute quarters, but that might be a little ridiculous so we'll see!

Hype I guess?

Indeed I will not be using Denver, Sacramento, Philly or LA. I don't expect anybody to be surprised who I choose.

I'm torn between 10 minute quarters with a sim, play, intervene method a la The X and 5 minute quarters playing all 29. I'm also curious if anybody has any slider sets they really like (all star)

If it's who I think it is, will you be using updated rosters or going off the 14-15 season? With the off-season changes, it's basically a new team now.

In any case, I like the sim, play, intervene method.

Yeah, I'm using EmbraceThaPace's updated 15-16 rosters with all the rookies and free agency signings. Can't resist the rebuild! I'm leaning towards sim, play, intervene as I don't want scores in the 50s and 60s.

Awesome. Here's hoping either Mason Plumlee or Meyers Leonard (I always want to put an apostrophe in his name) can become an All-Star.

Re-building the Blazers is a tall order, hopefully Vonleh can develop into a solid player.

July 7, 2015 - As expected, all-star LaMarcus Aldridge has departed the Portland Trail Blazers and so ends an era for this franchise.

Shrewd draft day deals in 2006 to acquire the nucleus of the team for years to come: Aldridge and Brandon Roy helped the team return to relevance, and perhaps more importantly, straighten out their image. Leaving behind the troubled "Jail Blazer" era, Portland was able to weather the storm of career ending injuries to franchise players Roy and Greg Oden, making five playoff appearances, and winning their first series in 14 years in 2014.

Coming off the success of the 2013-14 season, the future looked bright for Portland as emergent all-star guard Damian Lillard appeared to have picked up where Brandon Roy left off, Aldridge continued to play at a near-MVP level and the Blazers played at a 60-win pace the first half of the season. They did tail off a bit amid a shooting slump from Lillard and hand injury to Aldridge, but the team nonetheless ad an outside shot at making the NBA Finals. Everything fell apart however when key role player Wesley Matthews tore his achilles in a March game. Portland sputtered to a 51-31 record, and were easily dispatched by Memphis in the first round.

Fast forward to now: Nicolas Batum has been dealt, and three other starters: Matthews, Robin Lopez and Aldridge have walked and the Blazers find themselves starting all over. Damian Lillard and Meyers Leonard are now the two longest tenured players on a roster that, outside of Chris Kaman and Gerald Henderson, is devoid of NBA experience. While there are some promising pieces on this team, Damian Lillard will have to move mountains for this team to even be respectable, let alone get a playoff spot in the tough Western Conference.

Rocking a projected starting five of Lillard, Henderson, Al-Farouq Aminu, Leonard and Mason Plumlee, one thing is for sure: it's gonna be a long season in Portland.

Awesome. Of course losing a star for nothing in free agency is tough, but I actually like what Portland did. With Vonleh, Plumlee, and Leonard, you have a few chances to find a good bigman with the skills and mobility for today's NBA. Plus, Lillard is going to be Lillard :)

Decided to go 58 games, with an NFL style method of choosing the games: play all 8 vs. division rivals, and play all 5 teams in one Eastern, and one Western division once, rotating them each season. The rest of the games I will sim, intervening in the 4th if it's within 10.

Recaps coming soon!

Even if you don't win a whole lot of games, I think that team is going to be pretty fun to control.

That Meyers Leonard rating

Glad you decided to add Harkless too. He's a player I really like and I hope he gets a good opportunity to grow in Portland now.

Lillard, McCollum Dominate As Blazers Win Opener
Portland 115, Toronto 102

At home, boasting new additions DeMarre Carroll, Cory Joseph and Luis Scola among others, the Raptors expected to steamroll the rebuilding Blazers in the season opener. However, they forgot to do one thing: defend.

As a team, Portland shot 15-for-32 from behind the arc (Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum were 9-13 combined), and the Raptors simply couldn't keep up with, or stop the onslaught. "I told the guys at halftime, these are professionals. You can't take them lightly. Don't get me wrong, they played very well, especially that McCollum kid, but clearly my guys didn't get the message", commented an aggravated Duane Casey after the game.

The first half was closely contested, with the Raps taking a 6 point lead early, before a pair of runs shifted momentum in the Blazers direction. Portland led 52-40 at one point before the Raps closed the gap to 4 at halftime. Despite some big plays by Jonas Valanciunas and Kyle Lowry, the Raptors couldn't get the stops to take control in the third quarter, and Portland opened the fourth on fire. With Lillard on the bench and McCollum at the point, Portland put the game away early in the final period, as the Blazers ended up being able to play all 13 players en route to a 115-102 victory.

Damian Lillard was sensational with 32 points and 7 assists in just 29 minutes, not playing a minute of the fourth. McCollum was equally brilliant with 24 points and 5 assists on 9-12 shooting off the bench. New starters Gerald Henderson and Al-Farouq Aminu impressed in their "3-and-D" roles with 11 points apiece. When asked if Terry Stotts would consider starting McCollum, he said "C.J. was awesome tonight, but if something's working, I'm gonna keep doing it. I told him, sometimes you can do more in a sixth man role than off the bench, and I think he gets that."

This is a big win for the Trail Blazers, projected to be one of the worst teams in the league. While it's possible that this is a sign of positive things to come this season, it'll likely be one of the few highlights in an otherwise dreadful season.

JORDAN Player of the Game: Damian Lillard
32 Points, 7 Assists, 3 Rebounds, 10-16 FG, 6-9 3pt, 6-6 FT, +10, 29 minutes

Anthony Bennett Award: Terrence Ross
4 Points, 2-6 FG, -11

Anthony Bennett Award is so wrong man  . Should've just been the Joel Award or Oden Award since they played tons of games and still suck.

Blazers Remain Undefeated With Rout of Nets (sim-intervention in fourth)
Blazers 112, Nets 93

Outscoring the Nets 40-23 in the fourth quarter, Damian Lillard and the Blazers continue to surprise early in the season with another big win on the road. Brooklyn had nice games from Jarrett Jack and Joe Johnson, but their defense was nonexistent in the fourth, allowing the road team to pull away. The undefeated Blazers shot 58% from the field in the win.

Lillard: 24 points, 10 assists, 6 steals, 5 rebounds, 9-12 FG
Joe Johnson: 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists

CURRENT RECORD: 2-0 (3-0 pro-rated)

Even using the Sim slider setting, 2K15 plays like an arcade basketball game. As such, Lillard is just amazing. He's only rated like 86 but he plays like a 97. He's automatic when open.

Kevin, Bennett: 109 games played, Oden: 105 games played. Bennett: -0.1 career win shares, Oden: 7.3 career win shares.
