Re: Sixers [10-4] - Lillard has big night against Sixers

Fri Dec 26, 2014 7:21 pm

Embiid with 24 points. Carter-Williams was the next best with 21 points, and McDaniels and Barnes were the only others in double-figures.

It seems like Embiid and MCW score well in the simmed games, but in the games I play it's usually Butler, Barnes or Oubre. It's so much nicer this season not having to rely on Tony Wroten to come off the bench and score 20 just to keep my in the contest. I love having multiple scoring options.

Probably because of their shot tendency. You can edit those, btw.

I played the first half was on all-star difficulty and it was becoming too easy (20 point half-time lead), So I switched to superstar for the second half. I nearly gave up my entire lead in the third quarter  I eventually regained control and held on for the win though.

Given my great start to the season I think I'll keep it on superstar to improve the realism. It seems that my struggles last season were actually due to having a crap roster. I'm now almost back to the level that I was at with my Wizards team.

I have a feeling the real Sixers won't be able to turn things around this quickly, but that's the beauty of video games. Great start!

Who would have guessed that after what happened last season? I really had a great off-season and strengthened my team well.

I'm back up to superstar difficulty though, so I probably won't keep winning games as often as I have been already this season. Things should equal themselves out by the end of the season.

Andrew wrote:I have a feeling the real Sixers won't be able to turn things around this quickly, but that's the beauty of video games. Great start!

Very True. They are taking the long road with their rebuild. I am not that patient, unfortunately

I hope that Embiid can get healthy and fulfil his potential. We need some more dominant big men now that Duncan and Garnett are nearly finished.

I always try to find a balance between winning games and keeping my team's record realistic. But, at the end of the day the only reason I'm doing this is for my own enjoyment, so realism has to take a backseat at times.

MCW is a bit like Rajon Rondo. He does a bit of everything, but will rarely be my top scoring option. Maybe in the future he can become a better scorer if I keep sending him to perimeter shooting training camps.

Shame the winning streak had to come to an end in a simmed game. How are the Timberwolves doing this season?

Minnesota are doing about as well as you might expect. Tenth in the western conference with an 11-14 record. They are 1.5 games back of the Spurs for the eighth seed.

Gotta love the sim engine making me lose to teams like that, but beat actual contenders

I actually thought about trading MCW for Dante Exum earlier in the season, but his form lately has convinced me to keep him. Maybe I will have to trade for Ben Simmons in the next draft to get an Aussie on my team

Ezio Auditore wrote:Nice job locking Dwight on offense, and Oubre is making great strides really quick!

Dwight only managed 7 points. I hope Embiid and Noel can continue to have that effect on other big men in the future.

Oubre is great. Whenever I'm struggling I bench Noel and play Oubre at PF. It seems to work well on offense having four solid perimeter guys around Embiid (Y)

Sixers hand out another NBA lifeline

Image

Two-time NBA champion Andrew Bynum today signed a two-year $8 million contract with the high-flying Philadelphia 76ers. This will be the second stint with the Sixers for the injury-plagued twenty-eight year old.

The 2012 all-star originally joined the Sixers as part of the mega trade that saw Dwight Howard land in Los Angeles with the Lakers, but didn't play a game for the franchise due to chronic knee issues. He missed the entire season through injury and then signed a two-year deal in Cleveland the following off-season. The Cavs traded him to Chicago only a few months later and the Bulls immediately waived him. A month later he signed with Indiana for the rest of the 2013-14 season, but was let go at the end of that season and subsequently spent a year on the sidelines until signing with Philadelphia today.

Despite a busy off-season that saw them acquire Harrison Barnes, Jimmy Butler, Dario Saric, Kelly Oubre and Mario Hezonja, the Sixers are still well below the salary cap. Signing Bynum to this contract is a low risk move financially, because it will expire right before Michael Carter-Williams and Nerlens Noel come to the end of their rookie contracts. General manager Sam Hinkie is doing a good job keeping flexibility in the Sixers' salary cap for the future. His biggest priority at this point is preserving enough future cap room to make sure that he can keep hold of rising superstar Joel Embiid.

Bynum claims to be healthy and that his knee problems are a thing of the past. It remains to be seen what condition he is in. He will most likely share minutes with fellow injury-plagued big man Greg Oden as backup to Joel Embiid.

Philadelphia also waived forward Brandon Davies today. The twenty-four year old big man out of BYU had only played limited minutes in ten games this season and clear wasn't part of the long-term plans in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Roster

_C - Joel Embiid, Andrew Bynum, Greg Oden
PF - Nerlens Noel, Dario Saric
SF - Harrison Barnes, Kelly Oubre, Jerami Grant
SG - Jimmy Butler, KJ McDaniels, Mario Hezonja
PG - Michael Carter-Williams, Tony Wroten

Hopefully that Knicks loss was just a small bump in the road and not the start of a bad run.
