Can non-patched players play patched players online?

Sat Jan 04, 2003 9:12 am

Just looking for clarification. I've been having trouble patching, I don't want to patch unless necessary (it doesn't apply to me), and I haven't had the chance to try online play yet. Can non-patched machines still connect, or is EA being a bitch, making them non-cross-compatible even though no change was made to the online protocol? Thanks for the assistance.

Aside - like the new sig? Showing a little future-alma mater pride ;).

I don't have that patch, and I still play NBA online.

One advice for you before you play it online:
Edit the team you are gonna use before play it online, becuase everyone edit their players to the best and try to win. It's kinda cheating, but we have no choice.

Thats cheating

ningtong88, not everybody does this to their teams... only the cheaters who can't win a game without cheating. I play with plenty of people online who dont cheat by making all their players amazing.

Ya not everyone does it. I don't do it and most of the ppl that I have played online doesnt do it. The only thing that bothers me when I play online is the quitters other than its been good.

All my online play is in a regulated league, so I don't have to worry about that. Any suspicions, I just save stats and save ratings as stats, then compare. If they don't match, my opponent's in deep crap.

Plus, I almost always host, and you always use the host's rosters.

That reminds me--if you're using his/her rosters (because they're hosting), you can't edit your own team. You use whatever he/she transfers to you in pregame.

Plus, you should realize that the team ratings are off from the pre-determined rosters.

So, we don't need the patch, even if it is a "required update"?

They don't cheat because you played the home game, that means you hosted the games, and people joined you, they couldn't cheat; Only the person who host game can cheat.
