Embiid fouled out halfway through the fourth quarter of the Hawks game. Foul trouble kept him quiet all night.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Noel doing so well offensively though. Maybe these "twin towers" can play together after all.

My team seems to be worse defensively than offensively, if that is even possible. I'm managing to score about 20 points per quarter now, but at some point in every game the other team will go on a 10-2 run and take the game away from me.

Brooklyn shake things up in an attempt to save their season

Image

Things are getting desperate in Brooklyn as they sit six and a half games out of the playoff spots in the eastern conference with a 17-27 record. GM Billy King today reacted in the way he knows best, he agreed upon a trade deal. The transaction with Minnesota was signed off on today by all parties and officially approved by the NBA. The deal sees the Nets acquire veterans Nikola Pekovic, Kevin Martin and Corey Brewer in exchange for Brook Lopez, Mirza Teletovic, Markel Brown and a 2015 first round pick.

It is a move designed to add more scoring power to the Nets roster and more depth. Swapping Lopez for Pekovic shouldn't really be a huge step down in quality. Perhaps the Montenegrin big man will add a slightly more defensive edge to the position as he is averaging two points per game less than Lopez, but three more rebounds (Lopez 17p/7r - Pekovic 15p/10r).

Brooklyn have lacked perimeter scoring threats this season and adding two veterans like Martin and Brewer they should fill a big hole in their roster. Former Sacramento, Houston and Oklahoma City guard Martin in particular should be a great addition to the Nets. This season he is averaging seventeen points per game and shooting at nearly forty percent from the three-point line. Brewer is adding a very handy eight points per game this season as well.

The pressure on the franchise has been immense since Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov bought it in 2010 and subsequently spent hundreds of millions of dollars on running them and building a new arena in Brooklyn. The penalty of paying luxury tax is irrelevant to him, but he won't continue to keep pouring in endless amounts of his own fortune if the team is not performing to his high standards.

For Minnesota this deal is all about the future. First of all dumping three large contracts gives them more cap flexibility moving forward. Secondly getting rid of two wing players helps clear up the massive logjam that existed on their roster. With Martin and Brewer gone it gives rookie Zach LaVine the opportunity to make the starting shooting guard spot his own and also gives youngsters Glenn Robinson III and Shabazz Muhammad the chance at getting more playing time.

Exchanging Pekovic for Lopez is a bit risky due to the latter's injury history and the fact that he only has a player option for next season. The Timberwolves will look at the positives though and will hope that Brook can stay healthy and return to being one of the best offensive big men in the league. It shouldn't really be a problem for him though now that he'll have Ricky Rubio supplying him with pinpoint passes all game long.

Minnesota are currently hold the eleventh seed in the western conference with a 20-23 record. It will be a big challenge for Lopez to battle against the likes of Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Blake Griffin, Serge Ibaka, Tim Duncan, Dwight Howard, Andrew Bogut, Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph and LaMarcus Aldridge on a much more regular basis.

Teletovic and Brown are basically just the steak knives in this deal. The real asset that the Timberwolves get is Brooklyn's 2015 first round pick, which is currently slated to be the seventh overall selection. Obviously that will likely change between now and draft day now that the Nets have improved their team, but it could certainly still land Minnesota another quality young prospect.

Minnesota have a pretty solid group of players aged under 25 at the moment, with Ricky Rubio, Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Anthony Bennett, Gorgui Dieng, Glenn Robinson III and Shabazz Muhammad. They are often seen as a treadmill team and recently they have had more lottery picks than playoff games, but if they end up with two lottery picks in a draft that is stacked with talented big men, they may be able to balance out their roster and create something special for their fans.

This, for me, is not a good trade at all.

You sacrificed your muscle man/ rebounding specialist to an average center with a knack of having injuries almost all the time.
Plus, you traded Martin and Brewer who by the way are solid scorers.

I thought so. Timberwolves got the best player in the deal, albeit injury prone, and also a potential top 10 pick. Nets got an equally good inside scorer and some wing depth.

I like to do a couple of 'deadline trades' for the cpu teams each season and post them on here. I think it's more realistic than having 10 horrible, pointless trades that the cpu trade logic comes up with.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed when I saw that 2K15 was basically the same as 2K13, but I couldn't justify buying a PS4 for just one game (yet). Maybe if 2K16 comes out around the time Gran Turismo 7 comes out I might upgrade.

I'm looking forward to the off-season as well. I'm actually proud of myself for not making any big moves so far and also not just simming the whole season to get to the fun part.

I'll have 3 first round picks (right now looking like one in the top 5 and two between 14-20) and about $40m to spend on free agents. (Y)

Rondo joins Knicks in three-team trade

Image

All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo has officially ended his eight year association with the Boston Celtics today, having been traded to the New York Knicks as part of a three-team trade. The announcement comes less than a week after he reportedly requested a trade to a contending team. The complex deal involves Denver, New York and Boston.

It sees the Knicks acquire Rajon Rondo, Gerald Wallace, Tyler Zeller and Dwight Powell from the Celtics, as well as JaVale McGee and Randy Foye from the Nuggets.

The Celtics receive Iman Shumpert, Shane Larkin, Andrea Bargnani and a 2015 first round pick from the Knicks, and Danilo Gallinari from the Nuggets.

The Nuggets receive Amare Stoudemire, Samuel Dalembert and Tim Hardaway Jr from the Knicks.

Boston were put in a tough position by star player Rajon Rondo, who requested a trade to a team that would be in a position to contend for the championship. He had seen Celtics stars Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce all leave within the last couple of years and had no intention of sticking around and going through a rebuild over the next few seasons. Boston had their hands tied due to the fact that his contract was expiring. They had to find a new home for him and get the best package they could in return.

Perhaps the main piece they get in this trade is versatile guard Iman Shumpert, even if he is on an expiring contract. They also swapped veteran forward Gerald Wallace for a younger and better player in Danilo Gallinari for basically the same salary. Shane Larkin is an exciting, quick young guard with a future in this league. He will be backing up rookie Marcus Smart, who will now take over the starting role with Rondo gone.

The Celtics now have potentially $35 million in cap room to spend at the end of the season with Iman Shumpert, Brandon Bass, Andrea Bargnani, Marcus Thornton and Evan Turner all on expiring contracts. Jeff Green has a $9.4 million player option for next season, whilst Vitor Faverani ($2.18m) and Phil Pressey ($947k) both have team options. Boston will have to decide whether to use some of that cap room to bring any of those players back, or take a chance on attracting some big name free agents.

It is likely that the first round pick that they received in this deal will end up being in the mid-twenties, but their own pick should be in the top ten and they will no doubt be targeting one of the highly rated big men prospects, such as Jahlil Okafor, Karl-Anthony Towns, Cliff Alexander or Myles Turner. If they can land one of those prospects to partner Jared Sullinger and manage to keep hold of Iman Shumpert then they will have a decent young core, with Avery Bradley, James Young and Marcus Smart as well.

Boston currently sit in thirteenth spot in the eastern conference with a 16-30 record and will be hoping to have a franchise-changing off-season, as they look to set themselves up to be in a strong position for the next decade.

Denver were brought in to help facilitate this deal and they got themselves a nice reward for their effort. They get rid of a big chunk of salary and a couple of players who were disgruntled by a lack of playing time anyway. With the playoffs now firmly out of the picture for them, Denver are entering a mini rebuild period. Nearly $14 million in guaranteed contracts were shed in this trade and that means that they could now have just over $30 million in cap space to spend in the off-season.

Given their lack of a top quality center you would imagine that they would throw a large contract at Marc Gasol if he were to test the free agent market. That is of course if they don't draft one with their first round pick, which will likely be a top 5 pick. It is safe to assume that the long term future of the franchise will be built around Ty Lawson, Kenneth Faried and Gary Harris. If they can add someone like Jahlil Okafor or Karl-Anthony Towns to that core then they will have a solid foundation.

Alonzo Gee, Darrell Arthur, Nate Robinson, Amare Stoudemire and Samuel Dalembert are all on expiring contracts. Arron Afflalo has a $7.7 million player option for next season, whilst Wilson Chandler ($7.2m) and Timofey Mozgov ($5m) both have team options which the Nuggets can activate. If all three of those options are used then they will be left with about $11 million to spend on free agents. They are in a similar position to Boston and it will be interesting to see which direction both teams take.

The Nuggets sit fourteenth in the western conference with a 15-33 record. Their lack of a genuine superstar player has really been noticeable this season as their team full of role players has underperformed significantly.

New York obviously got the best player in this deal, but had to take on a fair bit of salary in the process. They are fully committed to win-now mode as Rondo teams up with current NBA scoring leader Carmelo Anthony. The pair are supposedly good friends so this move should really help them convince Anthony to stay in New York for the rest of his career.

Knicks fans will have to wait a week or two to see Rondo and Melo play together though as Anthony is currently out injured with a strained Achilles. Anthony is in MVP form for the high-flying Knicks, averaging 29 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Such great individual numbers have helped his team to a 30-19 record so far this season, which puts them behind only Chicago and Cleveland in the race for the top seed in the eastern conference.

Rondo himself is in fantastic form, averaging 14 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists per game. It remains to be seen how well these two stars can actually play when on the same team. It really shouldn't be a problem though as players of their quality usually adapt quickly and even up their game when they have similarly gifted players helping them out. The goal for the Knicks now that they have Rondo and Anthony should be no less than a finals appearance. It's been nearly 42 years since the franchise last won a title and the expectations of their fans will now be higher than they have been since the early 1990's.

The Knicks also gain human highlight reel JaVale McGee in this trade. When he isn't solely focussed on securing triple-doubles, he can actually be an effective big man. He is a great athlete and his shot blocking will make him a valuable member of the team in the defensive anchor role. It will give Carmelo Anthony much more freedom to play his offensively biased style of game without having to worry so much about defending. The rest of the players acquired by the Knicks will likely just be used as role players.

Re: Sixers [17-36] - Trade + All-Star Participants Announced

No idea why Noel isn't in the rising stars game. He is having a better season statistically than half of the players selected in that game.

Guess I'll just have to get Embiid the MVP award then

Jimmy Butler an All-Star? That's awesome. Although no Wade or Rose?

Shame on Noel being snubbed but Embiid can definitely get that MVP.

Butler, Evans, Cousins, Bledsoe, Vucevic as All-Stars - sick, especially Bledsoe and Butler. That trade is rather interesting, New York seem really strong now.

Can you actually play those contests aswell? I haven't gotten so far so I have no clue myself. :P

You know, I may of even liked the knicks to take that trade in real life.

Butler is having a great season (16p/9r/4a) and I guess he has become the Bulls' go-to guy with Rose injured quite often.

I think some injuries and slightly worse stats cost Rose and Wade an all-star selection.

14/8/10 - Rondo
21/4/6 - Kyrie
19/5/8 - Wall

22/4/4 - Rose
18/6/4 - Wade

It was my goal. Not sure if it has any effect on the ROTY voting, but it can't hurt Embiid's chances.

Rondo was probably going to walk for nothing at the end of the season so why not use him as an interesting story element. I think I read somewhere that him and Melo were friends and seeing as the Knicks are actually doing well in this game, it's not too unrealistic to assume that he would want to join them.

Plus, McGee and Gallinari were sulking it up in Denver so I figured why not combine the trades and help each team out.

It's fun to see new guys get the chance to be all-stars. Kobe only has a couple left in him.

In theory that trade was good for them, but ironically both Melo and Rondo are now injured. Melo out 4-6 weeks with a broken toe

And yes you can play all the all-star weekend contests. I played the rising stars game and all-star game, but let the cpu do the 3pt and dunk contests as none of my players were involved.

I like the trade because having Rondo on the team won't take away any shots from Melo. But he should get their offense running more smoothly.

Good news for Knicks fans. Rajon Rondo agrees to 3yr/$45m extension. Now they just have to hope that he and Melo can stay healthy

Rondo added: "It was a big deal for me to leave Boston. But I'm here in NYC now and I want to add another ring to my collection"
