A great first day at the MCG. After struggling all summer to take 10 wickets, Australia did it before tea. That's primarily why I like Johnson being in the side; he may go for plenty, but he's always a genuine wicket taking bowler and can take them in bunches. I was really impressed with Jackson Bird as well. I wish domestic cricket was on free-to-air, because then I probably would have heard of him before this test.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

RIP Tony Greig :(

http://www.espncricinfo.com/england/con ... 98930.html
Tony Greig dies of lung cancer

Tony Greig, the former England captain and well-known television commentator, has died after being diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year. He was 66.

Greig had been initially diagnosed with bronchitis in May but his condition did not improve and tests following the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka revealed that he had a lesion on his right lung. On his return to Australia from the tournament, he had "a lot of fluid" drained from the lung, and further testing revealed he had cancer. An integral part of Channel Nine's commentary team, Greig was not on duty at any of the Tests during the Australian summer.

He played 58 Tests for England, and led them in 14, during a five-year career that ended in 1977, when Greig joined Kerry Packer and was one of the key players in World Series Cricket. Greig scored 3599 runs at an average of 40 and took 141 wickets at 32 apiece.

Really sad news. He was one of the iconic voices of world cricket and the summer hasn't been the same without him.

He did make cricket more interesting, since he wasn't affraid to take on Australia. I didn't always agree with what he said, but like you bowdown, he was one of the commentators I grew up listening to.

On the same day Tony Greig died, Mike Hussey called it quits. That's going to leave a big hole in the middle order with the Ashes coming up. I'm not entirely sure how Australia are going to fill it. They could go with someone like Khawaja, a specialist batsmen, or even another allrounder who can fill in if another bowler gets injured, like Henriques. It's going to be interesting to see which direction they go. Either way, Hussey will be missed. He was definitely one of my favourite players to watch.

There's also this:

It comes after Haddin sensationally blasted the unpredictable Jamaican for being all talk while failing to deliver on his hype and pay cheque at the Thunder.

Haddin shook his head as he walked off, then turned to Gayle to hand out his bat, implying he had done nothing with the willow earlier.

Haddin arrived at the boundary and told Fox Sports: "He's been all talk so far this tournament and they haven't won a game.

"It's disappointing to get out then, I was feeling pretty good.

"But at least the Thunder fans have seen Chris Gayle do something for his money.''

The pot calling the kettle black a little on that one. Form slump or not, any side in world cricket would take Gayle over Haddin. I think Haddin should know about such times, since a slump is basically the reason he's not playing for Australia anymore.

I can't believe what I just saw. Kulasekara absolutely destroyed Australia's top order. Starc (9th batsmen) and Doherty (11 batsmen) were the only two in double figures as well. What an embarrassing performance.

Of course, the blame will probably go to the rotation system, instead of Sri Lanka just bowling out of their skins. One of many comments that annoyed me from James Brayshaw was that Warner had no blame in his dismissal, because that's the way he plays. He's such a damn brown-noser.

RIP Phil Hughes.

Can't believe such a promising young player and a supposedly great guy had his life ended by such a freak accident. The doctor said that only 100 known cases of this particular injury have ever been recorded, only once in cricket.

I don't even follow the game that much these days, but this is just horrible news. Especially for his family, who would have been getting ready to celebrate his 26th birthday on Sunday.

My sympathies for Sean Abbott as well. Can't imagine how he must be feeling after being involved in this.

As I've mentioned before, I'm not a cricket fan, but this has obviously been all over the news. Certainly a tragic accident, RIP.

That's sad. That ball is a very dangerous weapon we can easily forget. I've even played without a helmet to fast bowlers. There is a false sense of security until the worst actually happens.

I have to admit, this particular story has affected me a lot. Probably because I grew up playing junior cricket, so I felt like I related to his story more than other public figures (growing up in a small town, dreaming of playing for Australia). Can't help but feel sorry for Sean Abbott as well. He's likely bowled that delivery hundreds - maybe thousands - of times before, with the worst case scenario being a broken bone. I hope he can get through this.
