Talk about NBA 2K15 here.

Ice cold all game against San Antonio. Shot 10 for 27 and team down 10, was I scared? Nope. Knew cpu would give me a run. As if like clockwork, with a minute left I 1) stole the ball TWICE from Parker (been reaching 47 min to zero avail) 2) drilled two 3's (prior to that was 0-12), 3) blocked a guy going for a layup. Coincidence? OK.

I really want to see this stuff in action.

Yeah, i try to stop but the guy is dribbling the ball like he's asking for it. The guy I'm guarding always has a monster night against me because i keep trying to play the passing lanes. I can't believe you guys don't see it.

I almost never try to play passing lanes with guy guarding ball handler.
You just have to stay in front of him all the time. My old coach would shout on you all day long if you didn't.

Ha. Except in real life, when you go for a steal, you don't end up teleporting 50 feet away... I guess the video game has to penalize you for reaching in order to prevent users from cheesing. Instead of doing that, they should just up the number of fouls you get every time you reach.
Mon Nov 10, 2014 8:57 am
Well, just look at some real footage - the defender is in front of ball handler with some healthy distance between them, so the ball handler can't blow by the defender, but the defender is also in contest distance if the ball handler decided to shoot.
Believe it or not I have had great success in 2K15 utilizing this.

About those loose balls:
Look at 6:04, that shit happens even on the pro.
And if you put on 1080p you can see that at 6:08 to 6:09 that ball was in the knicks players hand that teleported to the hand on the nets player....
Tue Nov 11, 2014 5:53 am
I just watched. It was always going to the Nets player. Bad example.

That ball clearly went to the right guy.

Yeah, despite the big improvements, the ball still feels like it's a yoyo on a string. In real life, the ball is a lot looser than in bball video games. Here it magnetically gets teleported to the nearest player or the player with the best rebounding rating. I wonder if you can really do anything about that because the easiest way to program who grabs a loose ball is by who is closer and the rebounding rating. But in real life, the guy who has his limbs closer to the ball and is quicker should get it. Unfortunately despite all the motion capture animations, the players on screen are all just torsos. Independent arm movement and leg movement are just animations, not free flowing entities on their own.

One scripted element is the commentary. I turned on the commentary to hear if they'd mention that the Bulls just acquired Allen. There was no mention. It's not part of the scripted stories.
Commentary is now back down to 0.
Thu Nov 13, 2014 11:05 pm
I like playing with commentary set to 0 in mycareer, but sadly it applies also to halftime interview and halftime coaching.
Fri Nov 14, 2014 3:24 am
The commentary is pretty dumb. And the coach admonishes you for 8 turnovers when your stats are 50 points, 13 rebounds, 15 assists, 8 steals. Seriously?
I played my first game at the Kings (my first team in MyCareer); was it my imagination, or were the boos a lot louder for me than usually at the free throw line? That would be a cool effect. I wish they also included something in the storyline too about that. On social media, a fan insulted me for leaving the "greatest team," that was the only nod to the homecoming game.
Tue Nov 25, 2014 4:39 pm
Another scripted narrative: I'm up 14 the entire game against the Spurs before the computer decides my teammates all absolutely suck. They went ice cold, allowing Spurs to mount a 20 pt comeback to take the lead by 3 with 1:30. Guess what? I'm totally wasted, low on stamina, drill a 3, bam. Tied. Dude comes down, hits two free throws. I hit another fadeaway 3, bam.
The Spurs swing is utter crap and so is the computer trying to make it up to me by letting me hit two 3's in a row, when my 3 rating is 70, the shot bar was totally off on that fadeaway. FAAAAAAAAAAKE! You sure we didn't buy WWE 2k15 instead of 2k15?

I hate to agree with this, cause I spend all year looking forward to each new release. And its always hard to sort through the complainers that would bitch about the game even if it was FREE--which is what every person that bitches about FREE MODs & patches all the time, even though they don't realize how time consuming and hard that patchers & modders work… so, I try not to complain at the drop of a hat unless it is legitimate…
But dammit, this game is a huge disappointment. Ever since the game was released, I've spent the whole time tweaking this game with sliders and settings to make it "feel" like a simulated basketball game. The animations are great, the graphics are different, but I've gotten used to them, but this game is frustrating. Not in a challenging way, however, even when 2k games are at their most difficult and there's that team you just can't beat--in the past--its still always fun to keep plugging away and trying to get better so you can have all of the tools to beat that team, but I couldn't agree more about the "scripted" aspect that the original poster points out. It just doesn't feel organic at all. It feels like I'm just along for the ride and I have no control over the outcome. I have been playing 2k games since 2k9 and have loved every version (some take a little more time than other to adjust to)--but this one… dammit, I've tried, but I just can't find any joy in this game. Over the last few months, I've only played it a handful of times, hoping something will change, but it continues to disappoint. All they had to do was take the gameplay of the 2k14 PC version and mix it with the new animations and graphics and they would have had a winner… but this thing is clunky and predictable and I just don't think I can play it anymore… and I don't foresee a "good game" patch coming out anytime soon.

You know what? If you guys can predict what is going to happen, and your approach is the same, then the outcome may meet your expectations. Remember the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. With that said, if you think you know what is going to happen, try something different.
I'll give you an example. In my career, I play defense the same as I always have. On ball- I'm in their face, cutting off any drive before it starts. Off ball- I sag off, hoping the cpu will break down it's own offense and pass to the player I'm guarding where I either jump in the passing lane to steal or tip the pass, or quickly get back in his face. I've been burned by this strategy this year. Back door cuts have led to easy baskets as I deny the passing lane, but can't stop the lead pass to the cutter. Sagging off on the perimeter, I can't get back in time to stop the open shot, even when anticipating the pass. So, I made adjustments and had to stick closer to my man this year.

Yeah i found this game more scripted than nba 2k14 ... for example... I always and like to run my offense using pick n roll.. before in 2k14 i really loved what they have done to this play.. but for nba 2k15?? naaahh.. There's a lot of times that when I run the pick and roll and my teammate successfully covered me and drive to the basket and the lane is so wide open.. after i passed the ball either my teammates can't catch it correct (reason the defender can get some time to go back on D) or the defender intercepts the ball even if the defender is to far .. your teammate will automatically go to that direction and it will lead to turnover...
Did anyone experienced the crossover turnover? when you try to simply press the crossover from left to right or rigth to left.. the defender will stumble and the ball will bounce to the defenders foot again resulting to turnover.. and because of the scripted animation.. your player will look for the ball but the defender already knows where the ball is.. and he has the advantage of getting the fast break..
one more thing I know this is already available in 2k14 but for 2k15 it is too much! i mean tooooooooo much! the bump animation! WTF!!! i'm cutting on the baseline leaving my defender on the dust.. asking for the pass.. take the open shot! then! boom!! one defender is automatically near me and push me!! I missed my OPEN shot! but there's no FOUL!!! cmon!!! I'm playing Hall of Fame and SIMULATION .. and still experiencing these kind of cheese!!! ...
Let's talk about my career!

After playing the 1st quarter. I can easily determine if we are going to win or loss that game! .. yeah! I know you know what I'm saying!! it's because of that Mycareer story line BS!!! even you tried to play as hard as you can.. your teammates still missing open shots, free throws! and even dunks!! and suddenly your player are now missing freethrows and dunks! but your opponents are making their BS shots!!!
I'm still playing this game.. but I'm loosing my temper with this scripted gameplay!!!

I've tried everything. That's what I said in my post was that I've made adjustments to the game and in my gameplay and it doesn't matter. The outcome seems to be completely pre-determined and it doesn't feel organic at all. I don't feel like I have any control over the outcome--no matter what plays I run, how I defend (close or giving space), looking for the rebound (rebounding is the worst ever, I think this year) or trying to play tenacious defense--nothing that I'm doing is going to change what is going to happen. I played this game non-stop once the many, many bugs were fixed with two patches and I just couldn't take it anymore. And its not just losing to the computer that's the problem. Like I said in my original post, its the fact that every year I've been playing 2k, I know there is usually a learning curve, but this is the first year that the learning process isn't fun… its just frustrating cause of the way the game plays… rebounds, steals, and even my shot--which has a shot meter (which is like the darkness setting on a damn toaster--its useless unless you nail green)--feels like it is all pre-determined by the computer's decision before the game starts… and even if all of this is in my insane head, at the end of the day, this game is just the worst version as far as gameplay goes--hands down--since I started playing the 2k series, in MY opinion…
…and it was DOUBLE the price we usually pay, AND I don't have a hard copy to show for that purchase (just thought I'd throw that in, cause that was my initial problem with the game, but wouldn't have mattered if the game was as awesome as I hoped it was going to be)

Oh, but you don't have to do anything different. You can shoot the same old shots that you've been making (missing) all game and eventually the computer will momentum swing the game and you'll be missing (making) the same exact shots you've been taking all game. My complaint is that it's predictable when the computer will make things very difficult for you or very easy for you or the opponent to score. When you're up big in the 4th, it is almost guaranteed that the CPU will make things a lot easier for the cpu to score, get steals, hit shots and make it more difficult for you to score, get steals, hit shots. This is what I call scripting. In other words, there's a big degree of independence regardless of how well you're playing the game. Sometimes, the cpu hits too many bs shots when you play awesome D. Other times, it bricks too many open shots when you play shoddy D. Why bother playing any D then?

Good question at the end. If I were you I would put that theory to test. Play lackluster defense and see what happens.
Sun Dec 14, 2014 9:50 pm
It is interesting to see what happens next. Im SF in Raptors and we are currently going to Playoffs (Record 34-34). In game it does seem scripted. Certain things happen in certain situations no matter what you do. I play HOF difficulty and try to play smart Bball. In D i stay with my man and in O try to make wise decisions. I dont hold ball to much and stat line for rookie is pretty realistic (~12PPG, 5,5 Reb, 3ast. ~44% FG, A- Rat). If you play smart ball and u dont shoot ball 60 times as a rookie your team play better too. Sometimes however opponent sinks contested shots.
Have anyone make it to the playoffs in first season playing HOF diff. I mean, can i expekt some serious cheese in remaining season and we are out. All of my friends in first season got hammered in first season. And i mean ALL. 15 careers. Do i have any chance to make it or does The Cheeeeeese take over? Srry my english. Hope u can catch my drift.
